When ignorant people have angst for people born in the north moving to the south, people who pay taxes , contribute to the economy , buy homes , raise families , the south will always look like a backward region by the rest of the country ... But again thankfully it's a minority with the ignorant thoughts
This response is probably going to be one I wish I could take back, but as one of the unwashed ignoramuses from SC and the proud descendant with direct ancestors who were here back to before it was a state, I could care less where someone comes from.
I don't have to like or dislike anybody, and I know some died in the wool southern aristocrats who aren't worth the gunpowder it would take to blow them up. I know some folks from up north who are the salt of the earth and I am lucky to have them as friends.
That said, the constant, constant, constant development and destruction of this part of the country to accommodate a decades long population boom is being driven in no small part by the continued the migration of northerners in this direction.
That growth is unsettling to me. I see natural landmarks disappearing every day. I see an environment that is being ruined to throw up as fast as we can all the horse----t commercialism and big box suburban life that goes with growth, everywhere you turn.
I see people who are out to make a fast buck before the next real estate bubble pops. I see traffic that outstrips its infrastructure and worries over saltwater intrusion in the Floridan aquifer that will eventually impact all of us in this part of Georgia and probably Florida, and yet come on down, by all means.
I suspect were the shoe on the other foot and your home state (assuming you are from up north, if not I apologize) was facing rampant population growth and the pressures that come with it, and a large portion of those moving into your neck of the woods were from a certain area of the country, an ignorant minority of native New Englanders would be kicking up a fuss.
Not because of where the southerners were from. But where they were at.
