Bob and Nick Caslen wallowing in the gutter on Twitter again

The fact that Caslen is getting involved in Twitter wars is enough to show that he should never be in charge of anything in the real world (let alone a university).

Of course he was a disaster while he was at USC, but would have been nice to know what kind of standards he held himself to beforehand.

Everyone's politics are transparent on this board. That's why threads like this veer off into places none of us want to go on a sports board anymore. We have grown tired of it.

But, folks are defending "their" truths whether we like them or not. It's a new, sometimes inconvenient world where just about anything goes. The only way to avoid arguments is to quit rehashing this politically loaded stuff for no other apparent reason.

Your diversion attempts are so blatant.

Some people are actually capable of looking at facts. I'm an independent and would say the same thing about a democratic governor that forced in an unqualified candidate for personal gain. Caslen was a political puppet and a disaster.

Most folks round these parts are celebrating a Braves World Series, trying to figure out how to prepare for the rain Saturday at Williams Brice, fussing about the CFP or maybe taking part in a fun, new off topic thread.

Then, there are we some that continue to wallow in negativity, old issues and politics.

Do you not get it? Everybody baits political issues until they figure out its boneheaded, unpleasant and misplaced here. Then they give it up to actually have some fun.

I learned like the vast majority of others eventually to just completely ignore rather than engage when posters insult other posters or engage in politics or character assasination threads. So, I'm sorry I wandered into your little culture of condemnation thinking I might stand up to it this time and encourage others to experience how senseless and unpleasant such activities are.

My bad, I will own it. Bad mistake. It definitely won't happen again. Its not a community I want to be in.

So now you are the victim? Such drama.

Caslen was a disaster before he even came to USC. The academic class wanted a PHD, and no one without that cred could possibly be qualified to lead them, not even a Modern Major General.

In all honesty Caslen exhibits very little characteristically of a highly decorated officer, at least he didn’t at “California”, and definitely not in public. Maybe he was different at West Point but who knows. I have heard things are a lot different these days in the military even than 30 short years ago when I joined, and I had a brief experience with trainees at Fort Jackson in 2013 and the way some talked to the DI was unreal and we Chair Force boys never did that to our TI’s unless you actually wanted hell. I also know that kook DI up in the Summit, and that trainee that left base with a gun and “hijacked” a school bus would’ve been court martialed so fast their heads would spin. The new military. Time outs, and rainbows

Yes, they wanted a PhD person but I don’t know why that is important for the head of a university.

The BOT and search committee made a PHD a requirment for the job, not the faculty. And a a lot of people think they did that to eliminate Joan Gabel, who has a JD not a PHD. Then they turned around and hired someone without a PHD.

Bob Carlen was, no doubt, a great soldier and leader, but he was no more qualified to lead USC than Pastides would be to lead West Point. He was devoid of credentials to lead a large research institution. No terminal degree, no experience in academia, outside of West Point. Absent a nakedly political appointment from a feckless BOT under pressure from Duh Gubnah, he would have never gotten within a stone's throw of the Horseshoe.

As for Nick, I spent 30 seconds scrolling his Twitter feed, and that's time I'll wish I had back at the end of my life. He is a meaningless, nasty little Twitter troll.
Just to remind you all, in April of 2020 a Zoom meeting of an african American group of Student (I forget the name) was supposedly "hacked" with some nazi flags and confederate flags imagery. Caslen immediately demanded and investigation into the technology department or some such nonsense. Was there ever a final report on that investigation? If so, what did it reveal. It smelled to me at the time like a jussie smollet type stunt and I'm willing to bet money caslen knew it

The Joe Biden of athletic directors

So unexpected

So unexpected
That the Caslens cannot shut up about it and move on tells you that all the critics were right. Shakespeare had it right. "Methinks though doth protest too much." He messed up and compounded it. Take your medicine and move along. By the way, his son is a Gator fan, it is hard to exceed maximum douchebag, but he is working on it.

It is really not at all smart to get all carried away by such a tasteless stunt. I presume Caslen was posturing.

Sounds like a false flag operation, but maybe not possible to prove who did it. Most confederate/nazi sympathizers lack the the mental ability and digital sophistication to hack anything; not so false flag operatives, agitprop artists and agents provocateur.

I doubt the unpleasant digital imagery during the zoom meeting did any lasting damage on the self esteem of the students, unless they are snowflakes.
