South Carolina continues to work former Mississippi State wide receiver Malik Heath as a potential transfer candidate and Heath tells us that he plans to take an official visit to South Carolina this weekend.
Heath actually quietly took a visit to South Carolina out of JUCO, a trip that I don't believe was ever actually reported, and was thought to be a flip candidate at the time, so there's some familiarity there with the school, though that was when the previous staff was here.
Heath has one year of eligibility remaining.
It is my understanding that any incoming transfers from this point forward (including Heath if it happens) would have to enroll in May, rather than for the spring semester, and would not be able to go through spring practice.
There was a brief period of some positive buzz there for the Gamecocks with Fitzgerald (Ga.) three-star LB EJ Lightsey, who visited Georgia this past weekend and has been on the books for a South Carolina OV this weekend.
But with UGA pushing for Lightsey over the weekend, the current word is that he's very likely going to end up at Georgia. I'd say the South Carolina OV is at best up in the air and more realistically, I'm not going to be surprised if it gets canceled (it may already be). Clayton White is scheduled for an in-home with Lightsey on Thursday but we'll see if that takes place.
As I mentioned on The Insiders Forum earlier this week, four-star QB signee Tanner Bailey did not visit South Carolina prior to his initial commitment, so he's set to take his official visit this weekend.
Irmo (S.C.) linebacker signee Nick Emmanwori,, interestingly enough, only took unofficial visits to the school to this point and thus still has his OV remaining as well.
Emmanwori tells Gamecock Central's Kendall Smith that he's set to visit the Gamecocks this weekend too.
The Gamecocks will also host their third straight junior day this Saturday, on top of the staff being on the road all week long visiting high schools.
