Did Dick Vitale not know that we lead the nation in women's basketball attendance and hAve had 17K+ our previous games. He kept saying there is no excuse to not sell out for Dawn when we play A&M. He kept repeating this.

Colonial Life Arena is one of the nicest venues in the country, I couldnt believe when someone told me that more people show up for the womens games then the mens. Thats ridiculous. The program is more successful when the fan base is involved and supportive. How does one recruit if only the arena is 30% filled each game?

I believe Dick was simply trying to help Dawn & USC's drive to have 18K in the seats tonight. Dickie V was very complementary of our university and was very positive about our basketball team, even though we haven't given anyone much to be positive about in over 40 years. Dick went out of his way to say good things about USC on Saturday.

Imagine how it will help her now that we not only lead the nation in attendance, but we lead it by a large margin!

I agree that Vitale was just trying to get the place full for the game tonight.

what games you been going to? Ladies have had 12-17K for almost all their games. Men 9-14K so it's not been 30% full. It's not a 'ridiculous' thing to have the #1 Women's team, who leads the entire country in attendance, outdraw a rebuilding men's team whose attendance numbers are also improving.

I don't have any stats, but with close to 12K as an average, I'd be willing to bet the Lady Gamecocks are outdrawing ALL other basketball teams (MEN & WOMEN) in the Great State of South Carolina....and most of the men's teams in the SEC and nationally.

Comparing recruiting tactics between Mens and Womens is comical.

I havent been to other games, just the UK-USC game. It was a USC fan sitting next to me that told me that. I also heard on the radio that the only time the mens are sold out is when UK comes to town. The fact that USC fans only show up to watch games when they're #1 speaks volumes on support. Its not like you need 30K ppl, it only holds 18k. If more people supported the mens, even when they're mediocre...the program would be more attractive to top recruits.
Its like UK football....nobody gives a crap, so they'll always be awful. But unless you're supporting and going to games, why complain?

uh, I'm pretty sure "Mr. Skunt" is about to become the latest incarnation of Cock Hudson to be banned

I didn't mean to imply that Dick was being negative. It just sounded like he was uniformed. If we weren't leading the nation in women's basketball attendance, I would not have had a second thought about his comment. But he just kept repeating it and to the non USC fan they might have thought we don't draw very many fans to our game.

I agree and thought the same thing......he was very complimentary of SC most of the game. He was just saying he hopes the arena is full for the game tonight.....

According to some of the USC fans, your mens team doesnt. With the awesome arena, fun atmosphere and all the positive things about it....I wish the mens team drew more interest. You have a solid coach, and when that place is full its nearly impossible to win at.
