Well, I've quit complaining for the most part, it is now water under the bridge, it is just a change of the guards like everything else all around us. Many of those in the younger generations (not knowing your age) are perfectly fine with no longer having amateur sports, paying players from school funds and from outside sources (NIL), open portal (as in similar to open borders), and not having players that you can count on to be there over 1 year. It's just a nostalgic, old-school thing for me, a passion for my alma mater, getting to know the names of the players and pulling for them for 4 years+, a sense that they actually loved the university they were playing for. I'm not naive enough to think that's why these kids always played for our university, but many did, some still do, but the $$ rules now, period.
I do not see the new way of college sports, NIL, portal, payment from the schools, etc. helping USC, a mid-tier SEC team at best in all the major sports and imo this will make it harder to move up in the conference.
Congress will be getting involved soon, contracts will be put in place, sports agents will get even more involved, on and on, just not what I want to talk about, give me X's and O's and which QB and RB is signing on for the next 4 years, on and on. But it is what it is, college sports will carry on, and thrive, financially, but without me, as this generation fades, but I enjoyed attending the university when Rogers won the Heisman and Black Magic and the Fire Ant D ruled. Yes, that means I'm old! Things were different, simpler, and better imo, and I enjoyed it all, no regrets.
