Jake Bentley
--Talked some about the red zone struggles and said having a more effective run game will help out with that. He said he doesn't care how they score, but they want Parker White out there kicking for one point instead of three. Gamecocks started red zone work Thursday and continued it today, and Bentley said the team was doing well in their work so far.
--Xavier Legette has been impressive so far to start camp and Bentley said he's been one of the bigger surprises of the first seven practices with how fast he's caught onto the playbook. Right now, he's repping primarily outside.
--He's been impressed with Tavien Feaster and thinks he'll be able to impact the team in a pretty positive way this season. Feaster wasn't at practice today attending Clemson's graduation ceremony.
--It's been fun for Bentley to watch the competition between Dakereon Joyner and Ryan Hilinski, saying it reminds him a little bit of the competition he was in with Brandon McIlwain his first year on campus. Said both of the young guys have been really locked in to start camp and shown flashes.
Dakereon Joyner
--Joyner feels "very confident" he'll be able to win the backup quarterback job and thinks he's made big strides in throwing the ball since stepping on campus.
--The competition between him and Hilinski has gone well and Joyner said it's really easy to balance the competitive aspect of it on the field and being friends off of it. Said everyone in the quarterback room are good guys and everyone gets along so well.
AJ Turner
--Turner's focusing primarily right now on the defensive side of things and hasn't taken any reps at running back. He said if he does come and play running back, he could do it without getting reps but would still like to if that ever happens.
--He's looking forward to getting his chance to be the team's starting kick returner. He wasn't mad having to wait behind Deebo Samuel, but he's ready to have the ability to affect the game in more ways.
Will Register
--Entering his redshirt sophomore year, said things are starting to slow down for him finally and it's going by quicker than in years past.
--Said he's working primarily at the in-line spot and has worked pretty closely with Kyle Markway about developing his game and what he can do on the field.
Nick Muse
--Said he's still waiting to hear back on the NCAA about his eligibility this year and said it's expected to be done before Aug. 31. When I asked him about his arguments they made to the NCAA, he said "no comment," so they're trying to keep all that under wraps.
--Talked about how Kyle Markway and Kiel Pollard have been great for him in learning the offense, saying they're taking him under their wing and showing him the ropes.
--Biggest learning curve so far has been the playbook. He said if he learns those (and is eligible) he'll play, which is what Bobby Bentley said earlier in camp. If Muse is eligible, he'll compete for starting snaps.
