Gradstudent, I'm going to take a little bit of a turn here but I'm going to get back on track. But, when you named the player above that help beat Army. It reminded me of a conversation that me and a couple of old Gamecock friends had for years. The conversation was way before the time of the internet. Anyway several of us had heard USC had beaten Army when Army was # 1. Well, me and my friend attended the Bama game in 2010 when USC beat Bama who of course was ranked #1. But it was announced after the game it was the first time USC had beaten a # 1 ranked team. But we still thought USC had beaten a very good Army team but never when to the trouble to research the game. Anyway when you named the player above I looked up the record and and Army only lost two games that year. One was to USC and the other loss was to Navy. Army finished the 1954 season 7-2 and with a final AP ranking of # 7. The Black Knights had been ranked as high as # 5 before the lost to Navy. Away, thanks for listing that player from 1954 because it help me find the information I had been looking for a long time. I can't wait to call my friend tomorrow and tell him what I had found out about that particular game.

great one!! I was still young when my parents and the Caskey's would cookout. I knew all about his career at USC, but can't say I saw him play.
He was a tough player for us. He fought a courageous battle, but died young. I need to research if it was cancer or ... ALS.
