1.5️⃣4️⃣ Countdown to Kickoff: 54 days!

Our countdown to South Carolina's 2019 season opener against North Carolina in Charlotte is now down to just 54 days. Today’s athlete is a redshirt freshman that could be a key contributor this fall, offensive lineman Jovaughn Gwyn.

Gwyn was a highly coveted four-star prospect out of Harding High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. He entered last season already cracking the two-deep along the interior of the offensive line and played in the opener before undergoing season-ending foot surgery.

This year, he could end up earning a starting guard spot on the offensive line as a redshirt freshman.

2. Decision day for four-star DL

Who: Four-star DE Myles Murphy
What: Announcement ceremony
When: Monday, 3 p.m.
Where: Dudley High School Media Center

One of South Carolina's top overall targets is set to reveal his decision in a ceremony this afternoon. Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley four-star DE Myles Murphy has a final four of South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama and Florida, and took official visits to all four schools.

That said, South Carolina and North Carolina are considered the two favorites to land the four-star prospect with a certain level of confidence coming from both camps. Rivals.com ranks Murphy as the No. 21 strongside DE in the 2020 class and the No. 11 overall prospect in North Carolina.

Avoid the confusion: If you don't follow recruiting closely, there's another 2020 defensive end named Myles Murphy. That Myles Murphy is from Powder Springs, Ga., and committed to Clemson.

4. Birthdays!

Cody Waldrop – Waldrop was named all-state three times during his career at Armwood in addition to being named to the Times-Union's Florida Super 75. The Mobile Register named him to the Super South 120. FlaVarsity.com named him the state's No. 40 prospect. He picked the Gamecocks over North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia. Waldrop redshirted in 2012 then won Most Improved Freshman for the offense in the spring of 2013. He started six games at center that year and two the next year at right guard before a knee injury sidelined him for much of the 2014 season. A broken ankle in fall camp in 2015 wiped out that season and ended his career.
