Gamecocks vs Oklahoma game thread

Plenty of sane people have hired coaches that were just position coaches and those coaches end up being successful. Even winning national championships. And Beamer wasn't just a position coach. He has a ton of experience in all areas of the game under a lot of successful coaches. More than qualified to take the job and has proven it.

You're misusing the word "plenty".

And yes, he was a position coach. The fact that he was unprepared for a head coaching job is on full display.

Then what was my handle before and all the support for Muschamp?

You won't find it because it doesn't exist.

And no, he had been associate head coach, assistant head coach, coordinator, and position coach. Under some of the best in the business. Multiple coaches that have won multiple conference and national championships. Broad experience in all phases of the game and the business.

Perfect guy for us to give a chance considering everyone knows we aren't hiring another Spurrier. Or even a Rick Rod. Or even a Napier who we couldn't even hire away from Louisiana. He still has a lot to prove, but he certainly has proven he deserved the chance. That's why he is still here.

The "assistant head coach" thing was at Oklahoma, right? Where just about every position coach had an extra title like that.

All the other talk about experience can be reworded to say he bounced around a bunch of position coaching jobs and no one thought he was good enough for a coordinator promotion. Almost like he had family connections or something.

And he's still here because of the notion of "giving him time", and Ray checked out of football hires about a decade ago. He has shown he's not ready, and the new AD will move on from him shortly. He's safe this year, as the new AD won't be in the office in time to make a change. And hell, maybe he wins a 6th game. I'm sure lots of people will pretend that's "overachieving".

Even you know it's coming. Thats why the "I'll support the decision if he's fired" talk started slipping out. That actually highlights your issue really well. You blindly support whoever is there. You'll blindly turn on them when they are fired, and you'll blindly support the next guy. Instead of actually thinking on your own if they're a good hire or not.

It is possible we hired a failure. Look no further than when you blindly supported muschamp as an example.
