Going for it on 4th and 5 early in 4th

Well, IF he wants to 'please the people' right now, he will fire or reassign Satterfield. Until Beamer comes to grips with the fact that he made an extremely poor choice by hiring his 'buddy' as OC, we will continue to fall even further into the abyss.

Satterfield will definitely be the fall guy for this season.

Doesn’t mean it would’ve played out that way if we had kicked the first one. Completely different set of circumstances. And who’s to say the first one is made or not blocked. Two can play at this what if game.
But between us, only one can play the what actually happened game.

You’re the smartest football mind I’ve never met. I wish we had hired you instead of Coach Beamer. As a matter of fact I know you’ve coached so many games that they’re preparing to induct you into the college football hall of fame. Please prepare your speech, because I’m sure it’s coming. You know so much about the sport I’m sure you’ve won multiple national titles and have never made a mistake while managing a game. All hail the king, Ward.
I’m sure that’s what you’ve been waiting on us to say. So let me get it out of the way for you!

Ah, you're just sore at being confounded now.

I’m not confounded. I believe we should’ve gone for it. Not because it was or wasn’t Beamer making the call. But because I don’t believe in our offense. Get a TD when you can. A Fg does nothing. And a tie at the end does nothing but put you into OT. Y’all want him to be more aggressive on offense. Throw the ball down the field. But be conservative in this situation. Those of you who didn’t like the Beamer hire will never be satisfied with his decisions and it’s as simple as that.

See you're operating under a misapprehension. I was fine with his hiring. I like him. I want the best for him because I can't wait much longer for our football program to get on solid ground.. But I know that for him to be the guy, he's got to up his sideline coaching. I don't want him to wind up making me look bad.

We had 13 minutes to play and got another crack at scoring. With that earlier field goal, we would have been playing for OT or the win at three minutes left.
How do you know they fumble the next possession if we kick the FG and kick the ball of to them?

What if they drive down the field and score a touchdown and now we're down 10 with 7 minutes to go?

I don't know. You don't know. None of this is about knowing. It's about creating possibilities to eek out a win when one side of your team is struggling.

What caused the play to fail is irrelevant. That it failed made it the wrong call. Three points there and we have a chance to tie that game with another field goal and send it to overtime. Alternatively, we could have won it in regulation with a subsequent touchdown.
the fact that it failed made it the wrong call. You can’t say that. If it worked was it the right call? man that is a freaking cop out, hindsight is 20/20. The fact that he went for it was awesome and y’all can freaking suck it. That s what I wish he would so on the tuedday call this week when he gets asked about it

But we were down 2 scores instead of 1.
With 13 minutes to go, we were down 16-7. We were going to need two scores and one of them could be a field goal. But two field goals could tie it if Kentucky scored no more points. On fourth and five, I would kick the field goal. But we wound up with nothing. With three minutes left and facing fourth and two from farther out than we had been in the first instance, and two timeouts left, and needing a touchdown anyway, why not go for the yardage? But if you take the field goal, then why not try an onside kick? When we kicked it off deep, we were then going to have to use those two timeouts which meant the clock would have continued running after Kentucky's third down. They got a first down anyway, but we were likely cooked even if they hadn't.

You're not going to silence me through indignation and outrage. That's been tried by people who are better at it than you are.
Throw yourself a party!
So we disagree on whether to kick a FG or go for a TD. What’s the big deal?
One of us has played college football and coached football for 10 years. The other not so much. I’ve really enjoyed the meaningless banter but I’m moving on to more important things. I have a 110+million dollar book of business to manage tomorrow, so you have a great week and keep on keeping on. I’ll keep hoping we play to win the ball game and you keep hoping we play to tie and we will agree to disagree.

And at the time with what we knew when he made the decision, going for it gave you the better opportunity to win.

I think the fact that White is automatic is another reason it was the wrong call. If we had a shakey kicker like NC State, then I would have been OK with going for it there.

I had doubts about it as soon as I saw the down and distance, plus the time on the clock. But I was on my feet with everyone else hoping for a different result.

The only problem with the play call was that Jalen Brooks dropped a wide open pass.

Beamer also said he would’ve called timeout had he not liked the D they were in.
We have to execute. We had the play for the D they were in and Doty threw the pass exactly where it needed to be. Give me a coach with balls. Sometimes it doesn’t work out. I’d question the call if the play got blown up but it didn’t.
IIRC they play was called short of the 1st down marker and even if he did catch it, he had no room to turn it upfield for the 1st down.
That wasn’t the play from the 25. The play you are referencing was the 2nd 4th down attempt after the fumble I believe. Had Brooks caught it, it was a 1st down.
