Yep, me too. Grew up in Bennettsville so we made regular trips to Brownsville on the weekends. Buncha teenagers. Buncha beer.

Slim you grew up in Bennettsville too huh ?

Sure did Jim. Graduated in the early 90s and moved to the upstate shortly thereafter. Still have family there and try to visit from time to time. I miss Moe's chicken mostly.

I have visited this cemetery on several occasions. We had an encounter one time as we were trying to take pictures of the cemetery after dark (they say spirits show up in photos) and the camera worked UNTIL we came to the entrance of the Legare Mausoleum. The camera simply turned off and would not turn back on. We said "oh well" and headed back to the car where some of our wives were waiting. I told my wife that the battery was dead on the camera. She said there was no way as she had just charged it before we arrived to the cemetery. I tried to turn it back on as we were driving off and it immediately turned back on! This was a 6 month old Sony camera, so it had no operational issues. We had a group of 6 with us that night. We were all to freaked out to go back again.

wow, ive been going to edisto for 20yrs and had no idea about this....i am definitely going to have to check this out....especially at night

Spent the night at The Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville, LA, the night before the 2002 LSU game. Went specifically because we'd seen it on Travel Channel's Haunted Destination show. Didn't sleep worth a crap. (Left the lights on all night.) :)

Haunted Columbia

Longstreet Theatre as well as several buildings on the Horseshoe were used as hospitals during the Civil War.
Not one but several employees working late in the evenings at Longstreet have reported hearing the moans of wounded soldiers.

Maintenance employees at the SC State House claim to have seen a gray figure moving inside the dome. Others have felt and heard his breathe when he wasn't visible.

The maze of steam tunnels at USC and the Capital Complex are said to be haunted.

The escape tunnels from the State House are cloaked in mystery and I know I wouldn't go in one.

Washington Street Methodist Church has a few old graves underneath the building. An electrician running wires under the building told me of a grave with a glass window displaying the face of the young girl buried there.

Elmwood Cemetery has the grave of a young lady who died the night before her wedding. She was buried in her wedding dress.
There have been reports by visitors of seeing a young lady walking amongst the headstones in a bridal gown.

So where does it lead to as well as what is the historical significance ( not withstanding its haunted history). Looks like something for those of us into history / historical relics / architecture would really be interested in visiting. Big time fan of anything that has to do with history as the longer I live the more of it that disappears.

ive been in it couple of times.....walked all the way to the end once.....i think they were trying to build a railroad through the mountain.....its a neat place if youve never been.....my kids loved it......part of the way in is a huge air vent, which you can hike too on the outside and look down in it.....sometimes they have the tunnel closed for some reason.....vandals have come in spray painted graffiti in it too....there are a few trails to hike(like the one to the air vent)

Stumphouse Tunnel is haunted by taters.

For years Clempsum's Dairy Sales Dept. used it to age their blue cheese.

The place still reeks of rotten cheese.
