As I THINK you remember, I have praised Beamer PRIOR to this season. I previously said that he exceeded expectations (at least mine) in 2021 and 2022. The last thing I want for Carolina football is to change Head Coaches. I don't know about you but, I don't have that much time left to start over with a new Head Coach. Of course that also means I don't have the luxury of patience that others may have. At the same time, football and sports don't mean as much to me as they used to. That's what happens as you get older.
Gamecock football has never been a recruiting juggernaut. That's not me speaking. That's the recruiting rankings going back to the 1970s. If people are honest, they will admit we never will be. Maybe in other sports; but not football. We share a relatively small state with another school that, frankly, is a national brand name. We are like only 4 hours or so from schools (Georgia, Florida, Tennessee) that are historical powerhouses. This is just not an easy school to recruit to for football. We have had some Head Coaches (Scott, Muschamp, Woods) who had superb reputations as recruiters. They never recruited "lights out" at Carolina. Regardless, we need to, as always, do the best we can in recruiting.
The immediate above being said, I have been impressed with the coaching job done this season by Beamer. We do not have anywhere near the talent of LSU and Alabama. We probably should have beaten them both and would be on our way to the playoffs (we might still have a chance, though I would not bet on it). We destroyed much more talented Oklahoma. Though I'm not convinced that Venables is Head Coaching material, we did take them out at their place. We destroyed much more talented Texas A&M, who are well-coached. I, for one, am encouraged. If we are going to become nationally relevant, we are going to have to outcoach some teams, as we have done this year. I wish our state was a large as Florida. It's not. I wish we had the tradition of Georgia, Clemson and Tennessee. We don't. Thus, we have to compensate in other ways. That's the way I see it.
