To me this would be my top 3. They may not be interested, but you have to ask and offer a contract and money that make them think about it. Also, some coaches want to be in the sec. Ok so my list would be:
1. Gary Patterson
2. Mark Dantonio
3. Kirby Smart

Jonesz, I would be fine with anybody on your list. I may would replace Kirby Smart with art briles on my list. I think Dantonio has to be in the top 3.

Kirby smart is young which I like and he would bring toughness.

1. Gary Patterson [HAS REPEATEDLY SAID HE IS NOT LEAVING ALTHOUGH HAVING EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO DO SO FOR MUCH BIGGER JOBS]
2. Mark Dantonio [HISTORY OF HEALTH PROBLEMS AND NOT A YOUNG GUY]
3. Kirby Smart [NEVER BEEN A HEAD COACH AND HAS BEEN RIDING THE TAILS OF ONE OF THE GAME'S GREATEST COACHES.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out why people want Kirby Smart. Don't you know who really runs rhat defense?

1) Chip Kelly
2) there are several other small school coaches who might work (eg Herman, Fuentes, etc).

Atlas, a lot of people repeatedly say something in the coaching world and magically have a change of heart.

I would wait til after next week to put this guy on the list. He's old-ish and rather un-inspiring imo. Have you seen the offenses he's put together? 'Bout the same as ours.

Steve Spurrier Jr.
Lorenzo Ward
Deke Adams

..........................insert sarcasm here................probably Patterson would be my top choice then Smart..and maybe Art Briles if we could get him...

Are you kidding? 24/7 ranks him as the second best recruiter in the SEC, which is amazing. Most of the top recruiters are specialists, not coordinators. If Saban "really runs that defense," then that ought to tell you what kind of recruiter he is that Saban makes him his highest paid assistant, even though he's not even 40.

Think of it this way: If Smart and Kelly go into the home of a black kid from a small town in South Carolina or Georgia, who would best be able to sell him on coming here?

No one over the age of 45 sorry but we need a young coach that can relate to the kids and understands the value of technology. I can't stand Dumbo but he gets it. People we are way behind Clemsux when it comes to Technology they have invested millions in Technology to assist their players.

I can see a situation where Spurrier is asked to be a consultant on the next hire. If that's the case, look for Bob Stoops to emerge as the frontrunner. His time at Oklahoma has run it's course even though he wins every year. They just can't get over the hump into the NC game. Unfortunately, if this is the case there may be some current assistant coaches retained.

This may be correct. I learned from Spurrier's appearance on the Feherty Show a few weeks ago that Big Game Bob has a beach house right next to HBC. Prolly had more than one family BBQs and such.
Meh, it's all speculation. I would be less than shocked if absolutely no changes are made going into next season.

I think Dantonio surfaces a lot due to the alumni connection. But he is getting up there in age, plus his health is suspect. We would just be exchanging one past his prime coach for another. We need to hire a lot younger guy IMO. 40'ish, no more than 50.

1. Tom Herman (but think he holds out for a "bigger" job.)
2. Kirby Smart

-----That will likely be the order, and It won't go passed those 2-----

If for some strange reason it does, look for Dan Mullen and Justin Fuente's name to maybe be thrown into the mix.

Would think Mullen would be more difficult to get than the others....and more proven also.

1. Tom Herman
2. Rod Carey
3. Matt Campbell
4. Justin Fuente

The first realistic list I've seen yet.

Kelly won't happen.
Neither will Dantonio.
Both are pipe dreams for the incompetent.

I'm still high on Pat Narduzzi, great coach who will be a commodity.

Would love to snag P.J. Fleck too, one of the best recruiters in football.

Chad Morris is the best recruiter out there, I would love to snag him before a bigger program (inevitably) will.

Willie Fritz deserves a shot too, that man can coach and has plenty of experience and success

I like your list, in particular Narduzzi and Fritz. I kind of think Narduzzi will be at Pitt for a while, maybe a good while.

Willie Fritz is going to do great things. But he is past 50. You have to think he is going to be very careful about his next job, because that one will be the one to make his mark. Maybe that's us. Or maybe he wants to go back to Texas, or make Georgia Southern a power (the players are there).

Bob Stitt is a guy you didn't mention. He is either going to be someone out of the park home run, or not do very well if he gets a big job. But he seems like a West is the Best guy, and we really don't know if he could recruit at a big school, or recruit our area. You can be a great recruiter in one part of the country, and stink at it somewhere else.

Ah yes, Bob Stitt the 'perfector' of our favorite fly sweep play.

Dana Holgersen infamously gave Stitt credit in his victory interview for his take on the fly sweep after the Clemson Orange bowl disaster, where they scored four times alone on that play.

Stitt has great character well liked by just about everyone.

I forgot Fritz was older, I was naming candidates based purely on merits and what I perceive to be good qualities/solid coaches for future building.

I do think it's funny that you knock Fritz for being over 50, but then immediately bring up Stitt who is also over 50. Just Joshing you, but he is.

50 is the new 40 now if you didn't know!

Only the third one might be attainable.

That boy at Memphis can coach, too. Don't leave him out. He inherited a dumpster fire out there.

50 is acceptable. I wouldn't go higher in this search. We need to find our long-term Guy.
