My view is that if you are a projected 1st or 2nd round pick and you are playing in a useless bowl then I don't have a problem skipping the bowl to prepare for the draft.
I’m glad you weren’t advising Clowney then, we would have never beaten Michigan in our bowl game and he was the number 1 projected pick in the draft. Not a scheduled game...no. Plus it's close to the combines....not enough time to even cover from a minor injury. I'd still advise any player in his position to do the same and you can not convince me otherwise. This is his future....not yours or anyone elses. Are you willing to guarantee the NFL money he would lose if he got injured?
Assuming that was addressed to me....because not all players have the opportunities that Enagbare has to continue his career at a higher level and it is a nice reward for those players and the fans. The way you are describing this why even have bowl games, it’s an additional game that exposes players to another chance of being injured, just play your full season and call it a year.
Enagbare came back to play his senior year....Clowney did not. And if Clowney didn't have the PTD policy through the ESDI program, he probably wouldn't have played his junior year.I’m glad you weren’t advising Clowney then, we would have never beaten Michigan in our bowl game and he was the number 1 projected pick in the draft.
Are you honestly comparing Engabare to Clowney in talent and NFL draft status? There was a reason Clowney played only 3 yrs. I’m curious why Enagbare played this season at all then without those policies, wasn’t he draft eligible last year?Enagbare came back to play his senior year....Clowney did not. Believe he was only a second/third round projected pick at the end of last year. He came back to improve his status...and is now projected to be 1st round from what I've understood. Are you honestly comparing Engabare to Clowney in talent and NFL draft status? Yet he didn’t, he played the full season and a meaningless bowl game. Why does it matter what he considered, he considered going to Bama or the taters out of high school, yet that didn’t matter nor does it in this context.Believe he was only a second/third round projected pick at the end of last year. And YOU brought up Clowney....who considered sitting out his junior year.
He should have sat out this entire year. His draft stock is falling.Good for Howell. I hope he doesn't end up having to regret that decision.
Being in the military is a bit different, don't ya think?
Pay the nice hefty premium for a Lloyd's of London PTD insurance policy and Enagbare would probably reconsider. That is what Clowney had his junior year, else his "consideration" most likely would have become a reality.Yet he didn’t, he played the full season and a meaningless bowl game. Knew he was behind Pickett from Pitt and maybe the kid from Cincy, but haven't looked to see how far Howell has fallen. He should have sat out this entire year. His draft stock is falling.
Logically speaking, that's exactly the conclusion you have to reach. The bowls aren't derivative at all if the teams that play in them aren't the same teams that qualify for them. The way you are describing this why even have bowl games, it’s an additional game that exposes players to another chance of being injured, just play your full season and call it a year.
“Most likely”, all speculation because what did happen is real history, not speculation. I wish we had more Sam Howells or Matt Corrals on the team. Corral could be the first QB taken (a definite first rounder) in the draft this year, Ole Miss isn’t in the CFP yet he’s playing in their bowl game.Pay the nice hefty premium for a Lloyd's of London PTD insurance policy and Enagbare would probably reconsider. What is not speculation is that the university purchased a PTD insurance policy for Clowney to play his junior year.....eventhough he wasn't eligible for the draft after his sophomore year.“Most likely”, all speculation because what did happen is real history, not speculation. The university purchased it? Is that legal? If that’s the case why doesn’t the university purchase it for all players who are projected to be drafted. Or is it reserved for just players projected in first round, or top 5 picks etc….why didn’t the university purchase one for Enagbare if he is a first rounder? What is not speculation is that the university purchased a PTD insurance policy for Clowney to play his junior year.....eventhough he wasn't eligible for the draft after his sophomore year.
Lattimore had one as well. I don't know who purchased it, but it paid out for him. Still wasn't nearly what he would have made with an NFL contract. That's why I don't judge guys that are projected to be draft picks (and especially high round) sitting out the bowl game. Disappointed as a fan, of course, but it isn't my money on the line. What is not speculation is that the university purchased a PTD insurance policy for Clowney to play his junior year.....eventhough he wasn't eligible for the draft after his sophomore year.
Technically the student does through the Student Assistance Fund. Its only recommended if you are projected to be one of the top 10 picks...as Clowney was....but it is available for projected first round picks, though it get more difficult to prove loss of value the further down you are projected. It is purchased for the whole year and at the first of the year Enagbare wasn't considered to be a potential first round pick. Way too expensive to purchase for one game. The university purchased it? You stated earlier the University purchased it, not the student. If the university purchased Clowney’s as you stated then they should for Enagbare as well.Technically the student does through the Student Assistance Fund. Sorry, should have said the University arranges it....there is an assistance fund that pays for it. Excuse me for my slip in memory....its been a while since I worked in an ADs office. You stated the University purchased it, not the student. I don’t believe he did but some sports journalists were proposing that he sit out the year.Believe he was only a second/third round projected pick at the end of last year. He came back to improve his status...and is now projected to be 1st round from what I've understood.

Perhaps. I know it was discussed ad nauseum and he had a PTD/LOV policy.I don’t believe he did but some sports journalists were proposing that he sit out the year.
Sure was. I believe those rumors started at the propaganda machine in the Upstate, also known as Clemson.Perhaps. I know it was discussed ad nauseum and he had a PTD/LOV policy.
Wouldn't surprise me....nor would it if one or more were trying to convince him or his family to do just that.Sure was. I believe those rumors started at the propaganda machine in the Upstate, also known as Clemson.
