I was at the game with my daughter last night and by the time the game was over I was about to come to blows with this guy. He was obnoxious from the get go and his cheers were less about cheering his team and more about mocking Carolina fans. Finally in the third quarter I turned and looked at him and told him to chill out and he proceeded to talk back at me and say he had every right to cheer because we were 10 pt favorites to win the game and didnt look like it. I rolled my eyes and turned back around. I then hear the gentleman right behind me (the Miss st fan was 2 rows back) ask him to stop yelling in his ears. This guy and his wife were in their mid to upper 70's. This Miss st fan started yelling back and saying that he had to put up with all of our fans cheering for 3 quarters and we could all get over him pulling for his team. He had been yelling all game so it was not just 4th quarter, and he clearly didnt think about the fact he was in Columbia so of course we were going to cheer for Carolina.
Finally the game ended and he was still talking so I just turned and clapped my hands while looking at him. He then told me again that we were 10 pt favorites and didnt look like it. I told him I didnt care, we still won. This is where it got out of hand. He then said "F--- you and your f---ing wife." I told him that was not my wife it was my daughter (beer goggles clealry to think my daughter was my wife)and he needed to be careful. He then said "Then f--- you and f--- your f---ing daughter." I was ticked now and told him he needs to be very careful at this point. (Mind you my daughter was ignoring him and just cheering which ultimately is what I should have just done). He then told me after that again "F-- you, you mother f---er. You better watch your back". My daughter then turned and heard that and grabbed my arm and said just leave and it wasnt worth it. The older gentleman then looked at me and said that guy was an absolute moron which he was.
My daughter did see the man get a beer three diff times during the game so I am not sure if they have limits or not but games like last night are why alcohol sales could cause problems.
Now to all Miss St fans, I know he does not represent all of you so no feelings in any way about Miss St because of him. There are carolina fans like that as well but this guy ranks right up there with a lady I saw at a Duke Nc State football game back in early 2000's as most obnoxious I have ever witnessed at a game of any kind.

Three beers is not enough to make someone act out of character- that man is just an idiot with or without alcohol. If people want to drink they will do it somewhere else before the game, USC may as well make a buck onit.

True but we dont know if he had some beforehand and came in and compounded the problem. I know most people are responsible but this guy is an example of the old saying, "one bad apple can spoil a bunch."

Excuse me for sounding dubious but...
If this account is true, it just sounds like you simply ran into an obnoxious fan. You make no mention if you saw him drinking any beers, you state that he started this behavior at the very onset, and you mentioned 3 and 4 quarters ( in a NCAA MBB game ?).
The account of this episode however makes no mention how alcohol could have been involved.

If he had talked to my daughter and me like that I would have told my daughter to call your mom and to come and pick you up because I'm probably going to jail for assault because he or I were going to get an ass whipping.

1 - This guy is obviously an obnoxious fan regardless of alcohol being involved.
2 - Why didn't you get security to take care of it? That is what they are there for.
Agreed. Nothing good comes out from confronting an obnoxious and/or drunk fan. He would have piped down or been escorted out if you would have involved security.

The older gentleman did and they were coming right as game had ended and we were walking away. I didn’t look back to se anything but older gentleman was pointing the guy out.

I do admit my response was not my finest hour but let my temper get to me a bit. My daughter also was going to text to the security but couldnt remember the number they showed at the beginning of the game on the screen. You know its bad though when the area was full and by time game was over one dad had taken his 2 sons and left the area and the older gentleman walked and stood up at wall to get away from him.

Coming to blows at a women's bball game. It just means.........more.

Couple of thoughts:

1) That guy is staggeringly passionate about a womens basketball team playing 500 miles from home. I didnt even know such fans existed.

2) I'm convinced that if there is only one drunk and belligerent a-hole in an 80,000 seat stadium, he will end up sitting right in front of me or behind me. Glad to see I am not alone in this affliction.

That is kind of my point though... The reaction people are giving to your story is not due to a lack of empathy for you having to deal with an obnoxious ass, it is because of the thread title. We know people come to sporting events wasted and act a fool- they have always done it and will continue to whether beer is served or not. Usually it is so inconvenient and expensive to drink at an event like this that most people will only order one or two, rarely will you see people bombing down $8-10 beers to the point of getting belligerent. They get drunk off Natty Light in the parking lot beforehand and enjoy one or two during the game to stave off the hangover... All I am saying is this has no bearing on whether we should sell beer or not in my eyes.
We should however take lessons from you on self restraint as it woulda been hard for me to keep myself out of jail if anybody was talking to me and my kid like that. Drunk or not, he would have caught these hands.

this is why they have security at the games brother. Use them. Note the seat number and tell the guard they are using profanity and acting belligerent. The guard should come down and mention the complaint to the guy and tell them to tone it down. After that, the guards will usually keep them in their scan and if they act up- out they go.

Never engage these morons. Waste of time. Part of the ticket price pays for this service and it usually has some type of code of conduct on the ticket or on the entrance.

If the fella "was obnoxious from the get go and his cheers were less about cheering his team and more about mocking Carolina fans", it had nothing to do with beer being sold during the game, IMHO.

The guy could've been a tater.

That's right. This guy was a dyed-in-the- wool jackass who needs his butt kicked every day of his worthless life. Alcohol was not the proximate cause of his obnoxious behavior.

My initial reaction would want to kick some ass. Then the best remedy is to have the police arrest him, so he can now deal with 6-8 hours of county jail and posting bond. Now that would be a miserable experience.

All these posts border line defending the guy makes me chuckle. Many times jerks like this guy can get a little loud with 3 beers because they are playing the beer in hand, get loud game. You know the ones, the look at me I have a beer guys so I feel the need to get loud because I am drinking guy.

I didn't notice anyone defending the jerk.

In the ‘heat of the moment’ I get it. Next time you have a ‘fan’ like this around you, I’d suggest getting security to escort him out. Dropping F’ bombs at folks will get you ejected, and you had witnesses! Old saying, you can’t fix stupid!
Kicking some may feel good initially, but that would cause even more of a disturbance and take the focus away from the game.

I would assign the blame to the miscreant. But the thing to do is involve the proper people. I'm certain surrounding fans would have supported the action.

Thank you for your post and your restraint.

This post just goes to highlight the reason alcohol should not be served at sporting events.

Well it was section 105 row 23 for me row 25 for him. I did not make it up, trust me. It was not fun and basically put a black mark on the night as a whole. As a season ticket holder for men and women this was first time I have ever been near a fan like this.
