One thing that strikes me about our current situation is that we had several misses in the last couple years of Spurrier's staff.

Anyone have the prowess (and the time) or the knowledge about how many misses Muschamp had while at FL? Based on the number of defensive players going pro from FL that there weren't too many. Offense is maybe a different story?

if he don't get some talent At DE and get some pass rushers HIS defense will continue to be a miss here. Saying his defense is great is like saying our OLine was going to be great 2 years ago. Just talk. Last 2 games half a hundred was put on us

Well, to be fair, in his first year, he was dealing with old staff players, and any true FR that he managed to bring in in a shortened recruiting cycle. Gotta give him a little bit of time here...... If the D is still sucking half-way through '18 season, then something is amiss. I for one don't think it will be.

Oops, sorry. I thought this was a thread about Coach Boom's wife.

He had a lot of hits on defense, specifically at DE and CB. Had a 5* LB from Penn that did not live up (injuries were a part).

The fails were all on offense and it is really had to figure if misses or collateral damage of the situation. His QB play was horrific but I think 3 QB that were there when he arrived ended up in the NFL. The WR play was terrible and highly rated. 3-4 OC, mess

A miss here is way more critical than a miss at Florida. With their tradition, they get so many recruits wanting to go there. They simply sit and wait for an offer. Not to mention it is a recruiting hotbed. We have to fight most of the time to get what we get. If they miss on a 4*, they have two more right behind him waiting. If we miss on a 4*, it is "wait till next year". Start winning on a constant bases, and things will change.

On offense at Florida, Boom recruited well. The talent wasn't in question. Development and injuries were the problems. As with us, we were sitting very well at QB, and now we are one injury away from being in serious trouble after Nunez and BMac hit the road. As another poster mentioned, it is crazy how some teams are able to have a great QB, recruit another great QB, and another the year behind him wanting to go to the same school. Yet, we get even the slightest bit of competition at the position, and players want to leave to start at another school. Don't get it.

Cash, that's the reason.

You would have to assume its not the competition but the expectation the coaching staff delivers. If you promise BMac he will start and then bring in another kid.. in his same recruiting year..who is also a coach's son..of course that kid going to leave. Although Bentley is clearly better..the communication to the kid is disingenuous. Nunez although not a polished passer showed the ability to add value at the QB position..should have never been moved. Again not a shock that these kids moved on.

That's not exactly how it happened...
Bentley was originally a commit for this year but he decided to graduate high school early. He was old enough and he didn't want to switch high schools for a year or live for a year in AL while his family was in SC.
He probably smelled a chance to play as a FR, but if BMc had locked down the job Bentley would have redshirted.
There wasn't anything disingenuous about it... except maybe for not letting BMc play with the best RB and the best WR in the lineup. The "run" packages where he did play after Bentley took over were pretty silly, too.

I have a friend here in California that played QB at Ole Miss and he would get angry that Jeff Driskel was trotted out time and time again at Florida. Was amazed that the coaches never removed him- musta sucked for the backups (and the team overall). Muschamp will not repeat that error. I give Spurrier credit, he was not afraid to give the ball to someone else if the current guy wasn't getting it done.

Consequently, he bet against UF a lot in those days and did pretty well.

Although that is factually what occurred..To BMac who had already enrolled when Bentley made his decisions.. it APPEARED disingenuous.

QB seemed to be the big issue and where most of the offensive problems were, but he and Roper recruited Will Grier who was redshirted their last year. He definitely wasn't a miss as far as talent and ability.

Since Driskoll and a couple of others did well at other schools, not sure whether they could be considered misses...or bad fit with the coaching under Weiss and Pease.

The jury is still out with respect to Muschamp's recruiting results at South Carolina. For fairness sake, let's give him at least 2 recruting classes before we pass any judgment. However, so far on the offensive side, the staff is making concerted efforts to build up the WR and OL corps which is a positive sign. More needs to be done with the RBs and the 2018 class will be significant. Lastly, we must land Dakereon Joyner at all costs in order to secure a QB for the future.

Have we already given up on Urich?
