Anybody else a huge fragrance aficionado? I've worn fragrances off and on throughout my life without much thought about the differences between them, but over the past two years I've really taken a deep dive into the world of fragrances, specifically colognes but also some perfumes (for the wife). As we roll through spring and into the summer, what are some of your favorite go to scents for the season? Just picked up a few decants of designer and niche scents for the spring season that could also work for summer, but a few not intended for high heat.

- Costa Azzurra by Tom Ford
- Artisan Blu by John Varvatos
- Aoud Lemon Mint by Mancera
- Un Jardin Sur Le Nil by Hermes
- Uomo Acqua by Valentino
- Wood Neroli by Bvulgari
- Eau Tres Fraiche by Hermes
- Stronger with You Freeze by Armani

I too used to be big into finding the newest cologne when I was in HS, college and shortly thereafter. Over the years I got more crazy female reactions from Issey Miyaki. I loved it when girls would come up to me just to smell me and go Mmmmm. Drakar did that in Middle school. Over the years I had success with D & G, Aqua Di Gio, Curve, and even Lagerfeld Photo before I accidentally broke the bottle. I no longer care anymore. I smell more like a fart these days.

Not an aficionado by any means, but to this day, I can pick Drakar out in a crowd.

For me, I prefer Jasmine based fragrances. Beautiful by Estee Lauder is my go-to, as is Escape by Calvin Klein.

As for men I'm around, other than the aforementioned Drakar, there isn't one fragrance that just draws me in.

A lot of fragrances attack my allergies, so once I find ones that don't, I tend to stick with them.

We must be similar in age. There was a good female friend of mine in middle school that i never dated, but she couldn't resist the drakar.

I'm 47. When I was in high school, it was all about RL Polo for the guys. College it was Drakar and Tommy.
As I've gotten older, colognes really aren't "it" where a man is concerned.

Smalls has started checking out cologne when he goes to Ulta with me. I smell most of them, and I just don't like a lot of them. Although, Polo is still the most classic fragrance out there for men, IMO.

Now...a glove leather or baseball leather cologne? YES!!!!!! 😄

The fragrance experts mention leather as a prominent note (fancy word for smell) in Polo.

44 here. Green polo bottle was the first I got in 6th grade. Tell smalls to check out issey miyake. It is still the best.

Is it a "clean" scent? He seems to lean toward those.
I would say no. Polo Green is a very classic older gentlemen's fragrance - leather, tobacco, oak moss, green notes, musk - too old for him I would imagine.

Depending on how old he is I would get him a more youthful "blue" fragrance, something along the lines of Yves St Laurent "Y" EDP, Dior Sauvage EDT, or Versace Dylan Blue. For "clean" Fragrances he could do Versace Man Eau Fraiche, Lacoste L 12.12. Blanc EDT, Prada L'Homme L'Eau, and the classic Nautica Voyage.

Not sure how to define clean, but it is an option if he is looking for a reaction from females. Surely it can be sampled at a department store or Ulta. I am talking about Issey Miyaki. Not green polo. That is as old as Old Spice.

Right now, the last thing he's interested in is girls. He doesn't want anything to adversely affect his handicap. 😄 He says "Mom...I'm all about my golf and my grades." Which is fine with Momma.

We are a year apart in age, so yeah, fragrances have come a long way since Drakkar and Cool Water. That said, Issey Miyake has some killer fall/winter fragrances. If you have the chance pick up Nuit D'Issey Pulse of the Night, Nuit D'Issey Noir Argent, and if you can find it L'Eau Noir Ambre. You can get small ML sample spray decants at several different websites.

I thought for sure you would be a Hearties fan. Disappointed.

Green Irish Tweed - Creed. Best cologne I've ever worn, and it's not even close.
Colonia - Aqua Di Parma - Nice clean, citrus scent.

Wife:
Chance - Chanel
Jo Malone - just about anything.
Iris Tuberose - Creed

Whatever happened to the Good Life. Very nice masculine scent and was popular. Then they stopped making it.

That's what I'm talking about! Green Irish Tweed is the perfect spring scent, yet can be used for all seasons if done correctly. Colonia is very nice too.

Have you tried any other Creed scents? Aventus is of course legendary, but for spring and summer I really like Erolfa and Millesime Imperial. Silver Mountain Water is pretty awesome, but can be too metallic smelling for me at times.

I also have Royal Water. Nice clean scent. Silver Mountain I initially liked but I lost my enthusiasm for it.

Met a Creed rep at Bergdorf Goodman a couple of years ago, just happened to walk in the store and he was at the fragrance counter. Of course he was very knowledgable and gave the breakdown on the process for each of the scents in the catalog. Was very interesting and informative.
He introduced my wife to Sublime Vanilla, which she fell in love with.

My favorite cologne, and the one that I got the most compliments, was Tsar by Van Cleef. Anybody else tried it before? Unfortunately, I have not been able to find it for years. I also hate the spray bottles. It causes you to use way too much. My favorite perfume is Beautiful or White Diamonds.

BTW, the price of colognes has gotten outrageous! It costs way to much to buy some.....just to try.
