OT: sickening actions of Savannah youth coach

I tell you my Vice Principal swung a wood paddle like Babe Ruth. He would lift you off your feet. But a Hickory was rough too.
Probably the reason you turned out to be such a badass.

lol I'm a badness because I don't buy into fake outrage that the kid is scarred for life and his life is ruined because he got slapped with a Helmet on. Don't take much to impress you.

I have no clue why the Coach was pissed. I'm only assuming it was the walking, I didn’t see the play. As I said previously I would've benched him rest of the game.
There's always some jackass that tries to justify this type of abusive behavior. I was really hoping you were just trolling in bad taste. But unfortunately it seems like you're being sincere. Sad, man. Just sad.

Because I'm not outraged a kid wearing Helmet got slapped. Who is perfectly fine. I bet your the type that is against Corporal punishment in schools.

I Coached football for over 10 years and I'm sorry if you think ANY of this is ok. There was absolutely nothing about this that was ok.

Where did I say this was OK? The mother said this was ok. I said I wouldn't do it, I would've benched him the rest of the game.

No the Mother justified the behavior. I said I wouldn't have done it, I would've benched the rest of the game. How is that justifying his behavior?

You've repeatedly said you basically have no problem with a grown man repeatedly hitting a child in the head. Don't give a damn what his mom said -- which was possibly under duress, given the guy's former position -- and I don't give a damn that he had a helmet on. That doesn't protect his brain from getting rattled around from the force of the hitS. Even the NFL outlawed head-slapping by grown-up athletes.

Every time you post on this, you do yourself no favors. Just stop.

Yeah I've played football, if you think an open hand slap is the equivalent to helmet to helmet you've never played. When I played we didn't have Helmet to Helmet rules.
You can tell they didn't have helmet to helmet rules when you played because you must have taken some crazy ass hits to your head to be saying the stupid stuff you're saying!

I can’t believe there is a debate in this thread. I’d have cleAred that fence and took that Ahole out fast if that were my son. Someone touches my kid or gets between me and my kid I come completely unglued

Yep. I am nowhere near the fighting sort, but that deranged scrap of a person would've had his ass beaten off.

Where have I said I don't have a problem with grown men hitting a child in the head. NOWHERE... I've repeatedly said I don't think this kid is scarred for life or his life ruined from getting slapped with a Helmet on. One poster on Twitter suggested the Kid should be on suicide watch. I'm not buying into the outrage this kids life is ruined thats on Social Media right now.

Unless I missed it, no one here is overly focused on the long term effect on the kid. I agree...he’s 9...he’ll be okay. The focus is on the adult.

Please STFU. You know good and damn well you suggested the reason the kid was BEATEN was because he didn't "run" to the coach and that the second PUNCH that knocked him down, was weaker -- i.e. justified.

I couldn't care less where you tried to justify your BS by saying you wouldn't personally do that, all the while taking up for that scumbag.

You continue to embarass yourself. Just stop.

I was a head coach for 10 years in local football league. Dutch Fork and some Irmo kids. Coached future Shrine Bowlers and kids that played SEC, ACC, and various other levels. Coached against and regulsrly defeated teams coached by former Gamecock players. Played for multiple championships. If that fool had done that here he would have been in a bad situation on our sideline.

That being said I was called a p$+&y and worse by dads that thought we were soft on the boys and had players verbally threatened by multiple parents during practices with physical punishment when they got home.

I was also chastised and ended up quitting from helping a team in Chapin due to parents being concerned about my gruff attitude with the boys. I was told "Yall might coach like that in Irmo but we dont yell like that up here" From coach I had besten 49-12 last time when I was in Irmo. No wonder Chapin always sux was my comment.

A whimp in one cultire, a bully 10 miles up the road. Go figure.

They play good soccer up here though

I clearly stated what I seen in the film. In no way did I justify the Coach's actions. And no its not BS, I don't feel this kid is scarred for life.

If ever I wished I could jump through a screen watching that was the time. May not of won but I would have at least tried. The sorry a$$ assistants should be banned also.

Child psychological/emotional damage is not all or nothing. Did this one slap push this kid to trauma? Not likely. However a system of abuse (how many times has this coach hit him not on tape?) or what indication is it possibly the mother did not take this as serious as most?

how many times does it take for an authority figure to strike a kid to cause ptsd/trauma? There simply isn’t a number regardless one time is too many

It was so forceful it didnt knock him down or leave a mark. I'm not outraged that a kid wearing a helmet got slapped. Maybe America is Wussfied now, but I'm not.
Amen. Glad to see someone else agrees with me. I watched the video and wondered what all the fuss was about. Poor widdle punk got slapped while wearing a football helmet? That's what all this fuss is about? Seriously?Personally, I think more kids need to get their arses kicked more often by those in authority. Maybe they would learn some respect. When I was growing up in the 80's, if I did something stupid in school, I met with the principal and Ole Yeller - a wooden paddle about 4 inches thick with holes in it painted yellow. That thing hurt terribly. And if that happened, my dad gave me another one when I got home with the belt. I cant believe what I am reading in these comments. You people are the problem. Perhaps little Johnny was being a jackass? Perhaps he deserved to get bitch slapped? He had a football helmet on. He will be just fine!
This country is done. Bunch of pussies.

You would do what? Hit your child in the head? As long as he had a helmet on it’s ok?
If I had a son and he was showing his tail, absolutely I would do that. My dad did it to me 2-3 times a week and you know what? I DESERVED IT. I survived and have no scars. Bunch of friggin wussy parents in this country. That is why we have the society we have.

yes lack of child abuse is why the country is done

The study defined “harsh physical punishment” as pushing, grabbing, shoving, slapping or hitting by elders. It suggests that even if there is no major maltreatment or physical abuse, these punishments can psychologically affect a child in adulthood. The study found that 2 to 7 per cent of mental problems, including depression, bulimia, personality disorders and intellectual disabilities, were linked to such punishments in childhood.

Smacking was defined as "use of physical force with the intention of causing a child to experience pain, but not injury".

In general, the researchers found people who said they'd been smacked as children were more likely to report having problems like symptoms of depression, drinking moderate or heavy amounts of alcohol, and taking drugs.

Would really hate to see the he children you and deepfried raised. Serial killers in the making. I’m all for properly spanking a child on the rear but that was child abuse and any 2 cent lawyer could damn well prosecute and should prosecute his butt to the fullest extent of the law and if the mother isn’t a victim herself she should go down with him

LOL. OK. Whatever dude. We are still raising ours. They are 10-14 right now and all are pretty well adjusted, good kids. The kid had a football helmet on that the coach just kind of slapped. My opinion would be much different had the kid not had the helmet, but that was not anywhere near being child abuse.

There is a huge difference in child abuse and disciplining a child. Of course, my opinion would be different had this kid not had a helmet on, but with the helmet, this kid was not hurt at all, other than his pride. People are making this into a much bigger deal than it actually was.

it’s actually a very fine line

So if a kid is a drug addict or alki, its all due to his getting spankings by his parents growing up? That study is ridiculous. Same people are proponents of trophies for all. Every kid in this country got spanked and occasionally had the taste slapped out of their mouths up until the last 20 years. Funny, previous generations were not shooting up schools or killing themselves in mass until the last 20 years or so....

So this POS also was a counselor for the detention center but has now been fired. And it wasn't a 9 year old league it was a damn 7 year and under league. He goes on to say that the kid and parents forgive him so no one should bash him.. what a joke and a true piece of trash. Love what Shannon sharpe said about always standing up for the vulnerable which is what a 7 yr old is. An I am not a lebron fan but glad he spoke out about this jackass as well. The idiots on here that condone this, have just as much serious issues themselves. Luckily the state will press charges without the parents help. The link is the article.

Pathetic

I keep reading this thread in hopes that some of these people who are in ways approving of this guys actions suddenly say "just kidding" but so far, nothing.
Its one thing to be tough on players at the older levels [high school and up] however physically assaulting, helmet or not, a person with a single numeral as an age is ridiculous.

I know, but there is no age where this is acceptable especially from a coach. But to read now it was a 7 yr old. Just sickening

I don't agree with him on this issue, but....c'mon...he has a right to his opinion and he justifies it.
Yeah, I don't think he justifies it. He compares a disciplinary beating from a parent/grandparent (which I had PLENTY of, growing up) to being struck in the head, in anger, by a coach.

Amazing that people on this board want to cancel others on the board just because they don’t agree with their opinion. What a bunch of sissies!
