OT - what famous people have you seen in airports?

Jason Bourne would be a handfull, but I have a feeling you could take Matt Damon.
He's 5'4'' so I would be punching down and that's how Mike Tyson was so successful - crowd the guy and uppercut the crap out of him. Doubt Damon has ever thrown down, though, so you are probably right.

Sat next to Pete Rose on a flight from Cincinnati last year. We were going to Vegas of all places - LOL. Saw Hillary a few years ago in Reagan airport when she was Senator. Now, I fly frequently from Cincinnati to Appleton, WI or Green Bay, WI I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been on flights with Bengals or Packers players/coaches. Sat next to Matt Lefleur (new Packers coach) and we talked Packer football part of the flight. He was cool. I’m not an avid Packer fan, but it was great hearing his comments about his new team. On the same flight, there were a few rookies - I think they may have been in GB for Rookie camp.

I must say I've never seen anyone famous in an airport before but I have seen some weird people in international airports. I saw a video once titled Wal-Mart people and man there were some doziest for sure. But the people I've seen in international airports takes the cake.

My cousin, who was a Pan Am flight attendant in the late 60's/early 70's, stood in line behind Mick Jagger in customs in London. My brother stood in line behind Elton John in a bookstore in Atlanta.

About 20 years ago I was at Houston Intercontinental; upon exiting the Men’s Room I practically walked right into George Foreman and his entourage.

...that’s all I got....

Not at an Airport but I see Roy Jones Jr at least twice a year hanging out at sports bars and Restaurants. Super cool guy and very chill . Never seen him turn down an Autograph or Picture . When i used to Charter Fish I took Tito Ortiz (UFC) out once . Amazingly nice guy for someone who made a living trying to beat other people unconscious. Thank god it was a really good bite too . Slightly worried what would happen if he had a bad trip .

Walked right by Roger Staubach in the Nashville airport one time. I was a few yards past him when I realized who I’d Passed. Turned around to see if I could get an autograph, he’d been signing one for a couple when I passed him, and he was gone. Saw Bart Starr in a restaurant in Green Bay a few years back. He was there with an assistant giving an interview to a young female reporter. Also ran into, and shared a flight from Green Bay with, The Monday Night Football crew a few years back.

  1. My wife and I were sitting in JFK airport, waiting on our plane, on our way back from a NYC Thanksgiving trip in 2012. We were watching the Carolina v Clemson game (#4 in our 5 game streak) at a terminal bar when none other than Senator John McCain bolted past us from the adjacent gate like he was shot out of a cannon. He was moving purposely, intent on avoiding the unwashed.
  2. I saw Bill Murray walk past in ATL a few years ago. I was in one of the terminals, waiting on a connection, on my work cell when he walked by. Short guy, hat pulled low, also moving fast.
  3. Very distant third... I saw Bruce Pearl strolling by in the ATL this past Sunday.

I have run into a few wrestlers flying to San Diego (Luger, Steiner Bros.) but the best was Sammy Davis Jr.. We sat across the aisle and talked about his tennis game and the entertainment business. He loved golf but said he was terrible. Truly a nice guy.

In El Paso airport, during Glasnot in the 1990s, I ran into two dozen Russian army men in full Russian army uniform. It was one of those exchanges where we sent two dozen there to Russia to visit an army base and they sent two dozen of theirs here. The funny thing was a few of them had some basic English. They mostly griped because they were all given brand new uniforms they were required to wear, but that didn't fit too well. Plus the uniforms were heavy wool and this was El Paso in the summer. It was weird turning a corner in the US, right out of the Cold War, and running into Russian troops (though unarmed).

Oddly, none at an airport. But have seen and met quite a few in restaurants and around town in Bluffton and HHI.....Pat Conroy (super nice and very easy to talk to), Truman Capote, Tom Berenger (very private), Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, Kristin Davis, Andie McDowell (still very good looking), Kirk Herbstreit (at Monkey Business), Tom Cruise, Patricia Cornwell, and a few others.

selfie’s in bathrooms have a different meaning...
Jessie Helms, Curtis Strange, Heath Shuler, Ronnie Milsap, The Fridge, Joe Montana, Bucky Waters, Mike Patrick, Dr. C Everett Koop (U.S Surgeon General), Dmitry Zarechnyak (Regan’s Russian Interpreter), Vince Gill, Dave Marr (golfer and golf announcer)

None at an airport, but quite a few back when I was working in studios in Nashville and Atlanta.
Megadeth - studio in Nashville - super nice guys...
TLC - worked with them at a studio in Atlanta - all really down to earth and nice as well, not to mention cuties.
Trayce Adkins - a real jackass. Couldnt stand that guy.
Wynonna Judd - SUPER nice. Used to talk to her quite a bit.
Petra - again, cool guys. Went to lunch with them.
Tony Brown - played with Elvis and is a producer in Nashville. Truly one of the coolest human beings that I have ever met. He and I left the studio and he took me for a ride one night at 3 am in his brand new Hummer, just to get some air and a break.
Matthew Ryan - alt-country guy who is really starting to get some movement. He is a friend of mine that has crashed at my house a few times.
Bill Murray - he is the other owner of the Chas. Riverdogs. I met him through Mike Veeck, who is the other Riverdogs owner. For some reason, I keep running into Bill Murray at Costco. Always cool. Always friendly...

Lou Holtz, Len Dawson, and Bill Walsh were all on the same plane my wife and I were on going to the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. Road the bus with them to the luxury cruise ship we were all staying on in Port Vell (main harbor in Barcelona). Had Lou autograph a book we bought for my oldest son whom Lou and Skip actually recruited as a PWO. Traveled to some of the Olympic venues with Len and his wife. He was definitely the most down to earth, easy going person you could ever meet. Sat by Nancy Lieberman during the Opening Ceremony and sat behind and exchanged Olympic pins with Connie Seleka and her son while we watched the Dream Team destroy Croatia.

1. Saw Steve Spurrier at my church one Sunday morning. I knew his daughter lived in my town. I was late thst Sunday morning and as I walked into the lobby I saw the side view of a person walking upstairs. Just from the profile I knew it was SOS. This was before he was our coach. I hurried to catch up with him. When I got to him I just said “Hood morning coach”. He acknowledged my present and sent separate ways. In past when I have told story my friend do not believe me when I say I immediately recognized him from a view of his profile.
2. Many years ago I had extra time in Sheresport , La and decided to see a AA baseball game. There was one player that just stood out. I knew he would be a special mlb player one day. When I got back home I went to newsstand to buy a copy of Sporting News. They covers everything back then on a weekly bases. They had a story on that game which highlighted Darrel Strawberry. You would not believe his presents on a baseball diamond. A great talent. He started in AAA the next year but was moved up to the pros quickly that year.
3. Saw Bob Dole at my airport when he ran for president. Was at the fence and when he saw us he came over . I got the chance to thank him for his service to our country.

Lou Holtz (CLT) - in a hurry, but still took time to talk for several minutes

Sterling Sharpe (CLT to PHX) - sat right next to him in 1st class for an entire flight. Trying to be nice...and will just say that he lived up to his reputation.

Evander Holyfield (ATL) - post ear incident with Tyson. Yikes.

Billie Jean King (LGA) - kinda nice, but started directing traffic at the gate like she owned the place.

Jerry West (LAX) - much taller in person than I would have guessed

Bill Murray (EWR to CHS) - incredibly nice and eclectic. Apparently, most everyone on this board has seen him at some point!

Jim McMahon walking thru like a SaudI prince, head held high and Sun glasses. I sniffed but I couldn't smell sh*t.

Andie McDowell
Jay Bilas
Pernell (sweet pea) Whitaker
Mike Gminski

Flew on flights with all- conversed a little with Whitaker in baggage claim in the San Antonio airport in ‘93- right before his Julio Caesar Chavez fight. Hated that he got robbed in that “draw”. What a crock of a decision that was.

In a former life I managed shoe stores. Sold Sugar Ray Leonard a pair in NMB and John Mellencamps girlfriend several pairs in Bluffton. Sugar Ray was super nice and signed an autograph for me. I didn't even realize it was John Cougar until he handed me his credit card. He had on big sunglasses. I was mostly looking at that tall blond he was with.

Was boarding a plane from ATL to CAE, and as I begin walking down the aisle, there is George Rogers already seated. I am wearing a Clemson shirt, he looks up, and starts shaking his head jokingly saying "no, no, no." We both laugh and I shook his hand as I passed and said "I appreciate all you've down for the state." Always liked Big George.

Hank Azaria (Newark United Club) and Todd Blackledge (New Orleans the day after the 2014 Sugar Bowl). On a related note, my B-I-L is a United pilot who flew the Broncos to San Fran once when Fox was coaching. Says he's a good dude. Also flew Holtz once. Said Holtz was livid that the plane was late to the gate delaying his departure. Holtz complained to him that they were holding him up and my B-I-L, waiting to board the plane and fly it, said yeah me too.

Heather Locklear (being photoed in a bikini) - Hawaii hotel grounds and she was gorgeous!
Ann Margaret - Houston restaurant and she was classy and beautiful!
Bo Derek - Las Vegas casino.....definitely a 10!

Others, but these three are hard to forget.

G1 - Gamecocks 1st

Dan Reeves (ATL) -- I was on business in Atlanta in October 1998 and returning home after a week. He was sitting in the gate area of my flight, and as it turns out he was heading to Charleston (Mt. Pleasant) for his daughter's wedding. Coincidentally, I lived in Mt. Pleasant too. I shook his hand and told him that I was a Carolina alumnus and always wished him and his teams well. He was friendly and gracious. He took the Falcons to the Super Bowl that year. The year that the Dirty Bird was born.

Darius Rucker (CLT) - Met him entering the food court as me and my now ex-wife were heading to Tampa on vacation. 1997

Leonard Maltin (ILM) - I was at the gate on a Friday night waiting on my girlfriend's flight to arrive.(July 1992) This was long before all the post-9/11 restrictions, when you could freely go to the gate to meet arriving passengers without hardly a thought of a security concern. Mr. Maltin was in town to interview Brandon Lee, who was making a movie at the Carolco movie studio. He walked right past me, three people ahead of my girlfriend as she exited the jetway. Sadly, Brandon Lee was accidently shot and killed the following Spring, on the set, before the movie was finished.

Taneyhill bought me a shot at his bar in 5 points. Sat and talked football for a while. I think I was the only student there who knew who he was haha Great guy

I loved Group Therapy when I was a student back in 80s (it and Greenstreets), but haven't had a chance to get back since. Glad he bought it and is running it.

Jimmy Johnson wearing some of his Superbowl rings and drinking a Heineken on ice. LMAO

I was also on a flight with Lee Corso 6 different times. I lived in Orlando and traveled a lot. All my flights were Delta and connected through Atlanta. It was always on the Orlando - Atlanta leg that I was on with Corso. He was always in first class. I was upgraded to his row once but I didn't bother him. It was always int he Fall so I assume he was going to the College Gameday site each time.

Bob Dole is a partner in my law firm. He is a great American and a really funny guy. If you go to the WWII memorial on Saturday mornings early, he is there greeting visitors and old vets on the days he is physically able. If you saw him salute McCain, you see how weak he is now. A truly great American.

I saw Clint Eastwood a week ago in the Atlanta airport. He is directing a movie here.
