She (and her lawyers) have filed a suit against the creator of "Feud", regarding its depiction of her. The suit says it fictionalizes her, damages her reputation, and was done without her permission or compensation to her. I hope she wins.

Man, so many great beautiful actresses from that era, I would have a hard time picking a favorite, but Barbara Stanwyck and Lauren Bacall would be in the top 5!

Racist movie??? Well Snowflake... It's a classic movie and it's written by my ancestor on my Mom's side family...

Maybe you should learn your history and actually read it before pass judgement...

Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it.

Yes, it is. It may be historical in nature, but it glorifies the antebellum period of slavery.

You should have slept through your socialistology courses.

Sorry, I think slavery and that era was a bad time for America. Sue me I guess.

Oh, so you are stuck in the pro slavery/ anti slavery debate?

Well, if you had attended your American History courses and paid attention, you would have learned that a war called the Civil war was fought to end slavery in America once and for all. Hundreds of thousands of Americans died in that war, and slavery was abolished.

Now, if you are too fragile to imagine what life was like in the years leading up to the civil war, I am sorry for you. But people should know what antebellum society was like, and the terrible price was paid because of the folly of those who supported the war. The agony of reconstruction from which areas of the country have yet to fully recover should also be a teaching moment.

So my friend, read a little history, watch a few historically based movies and think with your brain rather than emotionally accuse folks of being racists.

Actually the Civil War was mostly about taxation without representation from the North after they placed tariffs and taxes on overseas dealings of the South related to cotton sales etc. The South was knocking down the $$ and the North resented it. Slavery talk was used to help the Union Army enlistments. The Confederate Constitution had already abolished overseas slave sales. Northerners owned slaves as well as some blacks. That's not me condoning slavery but stating history nobody talks about.

This Thread has certainly taken a turn for the worse. The original thread was about the actress Olivia de Havilland.

I fell in love with her character in 1976 when I happened upon an old black-and-white movie called "The Strawberry Blonde", a 1941 romantic comedy also starring James Cagney. In it she plays a turn of the century Bloomer Girl, that men cannot take seriously because she believes in equal rights for women. Her back and forth with Cagney on their first date could be a comedy Legend.

This movie is a glorification of the antebellum period, which shouldn't be glorified. It was a society completely propped up on the backs of enslaved Africans. It's disgusting and this movie is as well.

So, you would just like to forget history that doesn't personally appeal to you?
Nope. I believe in learning and teaching it, in the context of what it really is.

Gone with the wind just sugarcoats how vile that society really was. It makes people romanticize it.

I can probably agree with that position. However, it is just a movie. No one wants to return to that era.

"how vile that society really was" compared to what other societies of that era?

the thread is about the birthday of a 101 year old woman who appeared in 49 feature films

your selective outrage has been duly noted

thank you

Some people forget our society has changed. People that continue to rebel today and work people up only want to keep a wedge between the races. They make lots of money doing this. Our last president did all he could to cause devision between Americans and spreaded his poison. If people would put their head down, get to work to improve their own lives and stop listening to all of the fake news and race baiters their lives would flourish. People say they want to avoid color while at the same time pointing it out. Be an American first. If you ever have the chance listen to John Wayne's ( America Why I Love Her).

I believe you're the asshole who didn't know and asked who Olivia de Havilland was???

She was best known in "Gone with the Wind"

I suggest you go read it if you never read a book...

BTW, I'm 50% American Indian and my father side was from Ukraine and is Jewish, so don't give me crap about slavery...

So get off my land... We were here first!

The Civil War was mostly about slavery, that's why 9 seceding states mentioned it as the primary reason for leaving the Union in their causes/justification statements. I agree with the tariff inequities, but that was not the root cause of the war .... it was slavery, or more accurately, the debate over the spread of the South's "peculiar institution".

And the South wanted more "States rights" than the north.. Felt the governments main responsibility was to protect against foreign enemies..
