As the playoffs expand, IMO, bowl practices/games will become the pre-spring spring practice, and the bowl game itself will become sort of like the spring game, but intersquad and no adjusting of rules.Imo, any bowl outside of the playoffs will increasingly suffer from this.
Some may blame the playoffs, but every bowl save 1 or 2 have been "meaningless" as far as national titles go, since their inception.
Isn't it a common theme that California is paradise? Ha! To each his own, but doesn't sound like it to me.I just returned from a week in California — no reason to go there. Crime is rampant everywhere because of California $999 misdemeanor law. Cars broken into everywhere they are parked. Homeless tents and needles on every street. Must show vaccine card to get into restaurants and other businesses. Most touristy places are closed or severely understaffed. Masks required inside of every building. I won’t be going back any time soon.
In the beginning, the Rose Bowl matched a west coast team with one from the midwest for the most part. It was after WWII that they made it contractual between the champions of the PAC 12 (and predecessor leagues) and the B1G.It's the Rose Bowl, but it's still an exhibition game. And it's not really "The Rose Bowl" anymore and hasn't been for a while. The kids playing now grew up in the BCS era. Since 1998 the Rose Bowl has only hosted the championship game 4 times and is in the rotation to host a semi-final game every three years. So it's been a relevant bowl about 7 times in the last 23 years - and even then it was only important because it was a part of the system. So all the things that made it special in the past are forgotten by most people under the age of 35.
You must have been in some bad areas. I was in CA for 10 days this fall - SF, LA, SD and SB. It was beautiful. I see more homeless folks in Charlotte than I did in my 10 days in CA. I had a blast and can’t wait to go back in ‘22.I just returned from a week in California — no reason to go there. Crime is rampant everywhere because of California $999 misdemeanor law. Los Angeles, San Francisco, Napa — and Walnut Creek off the 680 Freeway where the gang looters hit the Nordstrom’s store there. Pasadena is in the L.A. Basin so you can expect the same type of crime as in all the L.A. Basin. What cities did you visit?

It's not a playoff, so risk vs benefit analysis says he probably would benefit more by not playing an extra game if he wants to go the NFL next year.Is the Rose Bowl not even good enough?

Its like any place. It depends on where you go. I spend a lot of time in So Cal for work. Been everywhere from Compton to Palm Springs. I have seen some awful places and some really nice ones. The people that have lived there all their lives will tell you that overall its a much more dangerous place to live than ever before. You must have been in some bad areas. Thats a vastly different experience than what I had in Northern California. You must be seeking out large cities. Kind of like me basing my perception of SC on N. Charleston, Sumter or ColumbiaI just returned from a week in California — no reason to go there. Crime is rampant everywhere because of California $999 misdemeanor law. Cars broken into everywhere they are parked. Homeless tents and needles on every street. Must show vaccine card to get into restaurants and other businesses. Go to Northern California. It was more rural than anywhere in SC. We literally rode 4.5 hrs and only went through 3 or 4 "towns". It was beautiful. Oak trees and meadows everywhere and then Yosemite was unreal.Isn't it a common theme that California is paradise? Ha! To each his own, but doesn't sound like it to me.
I can't imagine living in a place that someone can walk into your business, take your $hit, and get away with it. Nope, wouldn't work for me.
I have a trip in April for work. I think im gonna fly out a day or two early into Northern California and drive the PCH back down to LA. I was told it was 12-15 hours of you site see along the way. Im looking forward to it.Go to Northern California. It was more rural than anywhere in SC. We literally rode 4.5 hrs and only went through 3 or 4 "towns". It was beautiful. I stay on the east side at the Sierra Nevadas myself but everyone has told me I have to do the PCH. You should definitely do Yosemite. The waterfalls will be flowing again. I wish I knew how to post pics. Its amazing.I have a trip in April for work. I think im gonna fly out a day or two early into Northern California and drive the PCH back down to LA. I agree. I honestly see College Football losing a lot of fans in the future. I'm losing interest every year but I guess thats more do to our ineptness at fielding a competitive team in almost every men's sport now. Its simply not fun anymore to be honest...50 years of it for me. I still watch and care but its nothing like it used to be.I have a feeling that bowl games are going to become more like scrimmages unless your in the playoffs. If so it’s a sad time for college football.
Won’t happen as it it dang sure shouldn’t. A college player should not be punished for not completing school. They are free to return after their career in the NFL and some do.As the playoffs expand, IMO, bowl practices/games will become the pre-spring spring practice, and the bowl game itself will become sort of like the spring game, but intersquad and no adjusting of rules.
Wishful thinking on my part would be that the NFL reduces the draft stock for those who sit out their team's bowl game. And while I'm at it, I'll add to it those who quit school before graduating.
What can I say? I come from a community which values an education.
We were in LA during Memorial Day week in 2019. While there, we went to the The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens which is well worth a visit, then rose around Pasadena some. I rather liked Pasadena.Los Angeles, San Francisco, Napa — and Walnut Creek off the 680 Freeway where the gang looters hit the Nordstrom’s store there. Pasadena is in the L.A. Basin so you can expect the same type of crime as in all the L.A. Basin.
That's why I classified it as wishful thinking.Won’t happen as it it dang sure shouldn’t. A college player should not be punished for not completing school. They are free to return after their career in the NFL and some do.
That will be all your best talent which will greatly degrade the quality of college football. That's why I classified it as wishful thinking.
Would rather see a minor league system develop (think XFL) for those who don't value an education and wish to go pro from the get-go.
Only if you believe that minor league baseball degrades the quality of college baseball. You will still have those players who want to go to college to get an education, improve their draft status or jump over the low A and high A level of baseball. I don't believe college baseball has been diminished at all by the minor leagues. A minor football league will also give an opportunity for those players who can't make the academics to attend college. That will be all your best talent which will greatly degrade the quality of college football.
Yes I think it does degrade the quality of college baseball but that’s my personal opinion.Only if you believe that minor league baseball degrades the quality of college baseball. AHhhh the great American Philosopher Lawrence Berra.“Most touristy places are closed or severely understaffed.”
“Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded.” ~8
Sorry, saw my chance & had to take it😁
I have no problem with that. That will be all your best talent which will greatly degrade the quality of college football.
Um, if you can't make the academics, how can you attend college?Only if you believe that minor league baseball degrades the quality of college baseball. You can't. That's what I said.Um, if you can't make the academics, how can you attend college?

That was exactly the point of that last sentence. It wasn't that confusing. Simply, it gives an opportunity for those few players who don't have the academics to go to college and play ball.Okay, that's what you said (wrote). That makes no sense to me. What am I missing?
My thinking is that a minor football league gives an opportunity for those players who can't make the academics to skip college altogether.
