Why do u think we are far behind??? We won 7 games in a season we were expected to win 2.as an analyst.
I hope we were smart enough to at least make contact with him but I doubt it. Our next analyst will probably come from St Marys Eastern Tech.
Amazing how far behind Carolina is on this kind of thing.
He could fix some things. Outstanding coach. Edit: I was speaking about his potential to help any school to which he might go. I'm not losing any sleep over his not being in Columbia. I'm more concerned about the coach recently added to the field staff - only because I don't know yet what he can do.as an analyst.

Actually Patterson's title is Special Assistant to the Head Coach. He won't be an on the field coach, but will be way more involved than the analysts Texas has previously hired (e.g. Bob Shipley (famous Texas HS coach), Mike Biamonte (Delaware QB coach) or earlier Larry Fedora former NC head coach, Andre Coleman, former Kansas St OC, or Paul Williams, U of H cornerbacks coach. All those guys were paid like $80 to $100K plus benefits. Patterson probably isn't topping $1,000,000, but will come close to that. He will be heavily involved in the defense.as an analyst.

Battleship- I am not looking it up, and I'm sure you know a lot about the situation living out there. But...from memory I know Patterson had 3-4 eleven win seasons before 2009....maybe more. This dude can coach. I don't know anything about Del Conte, and you're probably right that this marriage was best for Patterson while that AD was there. But he didn't need any ADs help with what was going on the field. I don't know what Texas is going to pay him...usually analysts don't get much and the titles are meaningless but they work their butts off. He'll likely more of a sounding board than video analyst we all would assume.Actually Patterson's title is Special Assistant to the Head Coach. Do note that the current Texas Athletic Director, Chris Del Conte, was TCU's AD from 2009-2017, so he and Patterson overlapped Patterson's best seasons. They were very close and Patterson doesn't come to Texas if Del Conte wasn't here.
Texas needs him. A&M is eating their lunch.Actually Patterson's title is Special Assistant to the Head Coach. Patterson did unbelievable things at TCU. Watch TCU fade back into obscurity without him. My point is what he has negotiated at Texas is very different than an analyst position. Texas has analysts. Patterson has negotiated an unusual deal where he will have way more input into the defense than any analyst has. Almost a co-DC where he isn't on the field.Battleship- I am not looking it up, and I'm sure you know a lot about the situation living out there. You mean in recruiting? Texas hasn't played A&M since Case McCoy beat A&M in 2011, a decade ago. I think the $37 million that A&M paid out in NIL money is what impacted recruiting. Denver Harris (5-star cb) told some of our recruits he cried that he couldn't come to Texas, but the A&M money was too overwhelming and life changing.Texas needs him. A&M is eating their lunch.
Gary Patterson has lived the last 24years in Texas and has lived east of the Mississippi for 9 months. Why Would he want to come to SC? He knows Texas, has children and grand children there. Cheap ass dig at Beamer.as an analyst.
I hope we were smart enough to at least make contact with him but I doubt it. Our next analyst will probably come from St Marys Eastern Tech.

Why are the BeamerBoys so paranoid and soft here on this rat hole?
Some of us JUST WANT TO WIN GAMES and only want the best for Carolina. Hiring proven analysts and assistants would be a plus, not a negative.
Why such a hard on for Beamer? Own your cheap shot, that’s all I’m askingWhy so soft? Why so paranoid?
I think TCU made a huge mistake firing him. His age (61) may be a factor in not being scooped up. he has made a ton of money over the past decade and so probably wouldn't take down grade jobs (from TCU) like at a Sam Houston State or Tulane or whatever. He may yet take a bigger job next year. Why is Patterson not still at TCU? Wonder why the great coach wasn’t scooped up by a team looking for a HC? Is Sark starting his very own rehab facility at UT? Beamer has this program heading in the right direction and all the portal buzz but some “fans” have to find something to critique. SMDH
So analyst isn’t a downgrade? I agree he is a good coach but I don’t think TCU will take a step back with Dykes. I’m not sure how Pattersons players will fit with Dykes but when he recruits to his system TCU will probably improve not regress. TBH I was defending Beamer more than anything and to be fair a coach like Patterson is not going to come be an analyst for a 2nd year HC.I think TCU made a huge mistake firing him. We will have to disagree. What Patterson did at TCU was amazing. Dykes is a good coach, but not an amazing one.So analyst isn’t a downgrade? Leach is a novelty coach who produces entertaining football. He has no more chance of winning a national championship - and I would say an SEC championship, than Croom had.Mike Leach will inevitably be fired at Mississippi State. He will say something or they won't win enough. He would be a great hire as a non-coach, Gary Patterson at Texas kind of role at SC. Probably wouldn't last long, he would get an HC job. But he is approaching age 60 as well and might like the role. Anyway, that is the type of guy to target.
I don't think you wanted to play them this year, and maybe not a couple before that, and maybe not the next couple of years, which seems moot right now.You mean in recruiting? Well, A&M absolutely cleaned up in recruiting and anyone can see these two programs are currently on a different trajectory. You mean in recruiting? I agree, but his high risk offense let's him win some upsets of better teams, even if the flip side of high risk has him often losing to those he shouldn't. Still, if outmatched against an Alabama or Georgia, an underdog might want to listen to his ideas.Leach is a novelty coach who produces entertaining football. He has no more chance of winning a national championship - and I would say an SEC championship, than Croom had.
We weren't ready for that kind of money to be spent. But the recruits they got are paid mercenaries and don't really want to be there, some contemptuous of the school and the coaches there, but overwhelmed by the $$$ offered. I don't know how NIL will play out, but Oregon and A&M were the quickest to take full advantage. Trajectories can change quickly in the NIL world. Not that this is a good thing for the sport, it isn't.Well, A&M absolutely cleaned up in recruiting and anyone can see these two programs are currently on a different trajectory.
I would think folks in Austin would be hugely pi**ed.
Texas is switching qbs to Ewers and installing Sark's offense and weeding out some Herman holdovers. A&M lost to both Mississippi schools, they aren't unbeatable. But a couple of years from now Texas will be ready.I don't think you wanted to play them this year, and maybe not a couple before that, and maybe not the next couple of years, which seems moot right now.
I didn't write that the OP was wrong or miserable so I'm kinda confused on why you made that reply on my post. He's not wrong...or miserable.
Empirically (if nothing else)....everyone can see this on a lot of staffs. I think that's the point he's made.
You can call it coincidence that those staffs/programs have been uber successful if you want....that's fine.
But we have not gotten on board with that approach to our football staff yet - it is true.
But...one of the HCs who wasn't a huge advocate of it thus far was Lincoln Riley in the past. I guess that's had some influence on SB. I am betting LR changes his tune on this outlook before too long while at USC.
Leach is actually a very good coach .Sylvester Croom was not.Leach is a novelty coach who produces entertaining football. He has no more chance of winning a national championship - and I would say an SEC championship, than Croom had.
I'll stand by my statement as to their relative chances of winning championships.Leach is actually a very good coach .Sylvester Croom was not.
I look forward to the proof in the pudding.Texas is switching qbs to Ewers and installing Sark's offense and weeding out some Herman holdovers. A&M lost to both Mississippi schools, they aren't unbeatable. But a couple of years from now Texas will be ready.
His record against Texas is 2-8 and against Oklahoma 3-7. He even has a losing record against Missouri, the latest SEC addition from the Big 12. Nor did Leach win a single Big 12 Championship. He can do some stuff, but his ceiling is way below the roof.I agree, but his high risk offense let's him win some upsets of better teams, even if the flip side of high risk has him often losing to those he shouldn't. Texas plays Alabama in our 2nd game next year. That was scheduled a decade ago. I know Texas won't likely beat Alabama, but it will be a good test how good Ewers is and what progress Sark is achieving. Just like SC is excited about Rattler, Texas is excited about Ewers. If Texas plays Alabama within 10, that would be good enough progress for me.I look forward to the proof in the pudding.
I agree Leach won't ever coach a champion. He loses games he shouldn't. But his offense is devilishly hard to defend when it is clicking. While he was 5-15 against OU and Texas, those five games he won were dang frustrating. Texas/OU would have 60 four and five star players and he might have 6 or 8 four stars and no five stars. He had no business winning any of those five games. Yet Texas fans feel he cost Texas and Colt McCoy a national championship in 2008 with that upset. Texas was ranked No.1 before the game and wound up beating Ohio State in a bowl game. At the very least I would have liked to see Colt McCoy vs Tim Tebow in a championship game. His record against Texas is 2-8 and against Oklahoma 3-7. Yeah, we beat Alabama in 2010 when they were defending champs, ranked #1, and owned the nation's longest winning streak. That didn't mean crap in the grand scheme of things, either.I agree Leach won't ever coach a champion. He loses games he shouldn't. But his offense is devilishly hard to defend when it is clicking.
