Texas plays Alabama in our 2nd game next year. That was scheduled a decade ago. I know Texas won't likely beat Alabama, but it will be a good test how good Ewers is and what progress Sark is achieving. Just like SC is excited about Rattler, Texas is excited about Ewers. If Texas plays Alabama within 10, that would be good enough progress for me.

I don't know. Blowouts of the Louisiana Cajuns or Rice Owls or hanging 70 on Texas Tech can deceptively make you think you are better than you are. I think measuring up against a top team, who will be undefeated and highly ranked, will tell me a lot.

I think a good barometer would be better than .500 in the Big 12. Is that too ambitious?

It could be misleading. TCU without Patterson will be worse, OU is imploding, etc. You might win games and not really be that much better. Go toe to toe with Alabama and that would show definite improvement.
