Holbrook is not a game manager. Monte Lee should have been hired and Holbrook retained as assistant head coach and hitting coach. Holbrook is probably the best assistant coach in the game, he is just not a head coach.

southern comfort is not a game changer.....we should have hired jack daniels.....soco is the second best liquor in the game, but it is no doubt next to the best....soco is just not head of the class

He's a great assistant and recruiter. Still learning how to coach at least according to his supporters on the board. Either way, jury's still out on his managing ability. Hopefully we get out of a regional this year or make it to a regional.

Pretty sad state of affairs when we're just hoping we make a regional. Its all Omaha for me. It's year three of the Holbrook era. If he hasn't figured it out by now, he probably won't. Again, he took over a program that was in great shape, unlike when Tanner was hired. Slowly, but surely, it's slipping. Not good!

We are like the Bama of baseball. If Saban was underachieving year in and year out with the recruits he gets like we get in baseball and with the facilities they have then people would be questioning his head coaching ability as well.

Please stop you idiots. First Spurrier, then Martin, and now Holbrook. Why don't the 5-6 of you that talk this crap after every loss in every sport go away. This board would much better without you....forever.

Can't help but agree with TPB... Holbrook has to learn to push the right buttons with his players... I know it's only one game, but he's in his third year.... We've been moving downward since 2012. This year will be interesting. It just seems weird to me that Holbrook had to apologize to the fans after game 1 for his teams "lack of competitiveness." Really???

Maybe we'll have a great season, but I haven't been impressed with Holbrook yet either. I know there were people who even questioned Tanner at times, but this feels different. The way we lost to Maryland last year was rough and not what we're used to as South Carolina baseball fans.

Step away from the ledge, it is just one game. He'll figure out his lineup and we'll hit, one or two of those guys will be replaced once the young guys settle in.

"figure out his lineup and we'll hit"

People been saying that for 4 years.......if it does happen then it would be first time in a while.......listened to the game again yesterday and it is more of the same from a hitting standpoint....constantly outhit by teams even on the level of Davidson Liberty, CofC......

Nobody has more bases loaded and 1 out situations go by the wayside than this team and they just kept chugging along again yesterday with the same....Pitcher had just thrown 9 straight balls and 12 or 13 outside the strike zone......the next SC batter swings weakly at the very first pitch of the next at bat for a two hopper to the 2nd base and a double play to get out of bases loaded rally.

Simple fact is that this lineup does not square the ball up enough to be a good hitting team...they even miss obvious mistakes by the pitcher....same as the last two years.......either they are missing coaching or recruiting below average hitters.

Pitching better be great because this team isn't capable of hitting on a consistent basis.....we are the one lineup whom could still the old juiced bats and still get out hit by every team we play.

"a lot of season left?" There's literally the entire season, minus one game, left. An entire season.

What did we do before the back to back titles? Tanner was a genius to get out when he did. But even he didn't always set the world on fire. Let the season play out. I'm sure Tanner, as much as anyone, doesn't want the success to disappear. And he will make changes if necessary.

I hate to, but I have to agree wth Todd, I am the eternal pessimist, but for goodness sake, it is one game. Did you think SC was going undefeated? I am as pissed as anyone about this loss, and some weaknesses did surface. But CofC is a top 25 program. Let's see what the record is after say 20 games before we call for Holbrook's head.

The most disturbing fact of the first game were Holbrook's comments about his players lack of competiveness and other issues??? Opening game, at home, vs. a SR participant from 2014, and we've got issues like this????

WTH

We are not like the Bama of baseball. LSU is closer to that title in our own conference. Texas maybe, So Cal maybe. Look where those programs are at right now. No one stays on top forever.

True. But it's disappointing that we have not taken full advantage of the success we've had in baseball and football. It is starting to look like we've peaked, resting on our laurels and heading back to the bottom. Ok, I've had my pity party. Go Cocks!!!!!!!!!

LMAO- for real esquire!

Not only was that our FIRST GAME with a whole bunch of new players, it was also one we had to play without our best player in the lineup for half the game due to a "violation of team rules"!

I wonder if these same idiots will gripe about us "only having a .500 winning percentage at this point in the season" after the first game of the double header ends?

Come on pepsi, you know who you're responding to. And you know if we don't win a NC every year we need to fire the entire staff.

I'll never forget 2010 when we lost early series to ECU and Clempson, and some (and the guy you responded to was the ring leader) were claiming Tanner was washed up and needed to go. But I've never seen it so bad as yesterday after losing the opener. Seems a lot of peeps around here forget everything about baseball until
about halfway through the season.

I'm just glad the boys came back and took the series. And i hope all of those whining yesterday got all the egg off their face!

So after the very first baseball game this season you are already calling out our coach, lol. Some of our so called "fans" are really strange. I doubt anyone on this board has a history of posting more knee jerk crap than this guy does.

Seems like from where I was sitting in the stands Monte was out coached in game 2 and 3 by Holbrook. From Koch laying down a perfect bunt and making the 3rd baseman field it, to calling a double steal with runners on first and second that caught C of C completely off guard. It's going to a long season with some of the "Knee jerk" posters on here. I wonder if Vandy's Corbin was out coached in their game two loss this weekend to Santa Clara?

As a person that sat through all 27 innings this weekend with my 10 year old son, folks that are jumping on this team so early are just looking for things to knit pick. We have some tremendous talent on this team and Holbrook is doing a great job. We saw 3 freshman pitchers (Haswell, Schmidt and Murray) and 3 freshmen fielders (Stokes, Destino and Taylor) get put in major roles against a team that went to the Super Regionals. Holbrook has to see how everything is going to shake out before he can decide on a lineup. I think we saw Holbrook is not afraid to shake things up. We saw 3 left fielders (Harrington, Caldwell and Gore). We saw the future at 3B, Madison Stokes. We saw why Koch is catching, Taylor struggled a little bit blocking balls and catching cleanly. My point is, there is still a lot to learn about this team. I know one thing, we have a lot more options in the bullpen. Last year, Mincey was over used and he wasn't even used in this 1st series. We have come a long way in the bullpen, since we were using 2 pitchers exclusively (i.e. Westmoreland/Webb or Mincey/Seddon). I really like Brandon Murray, Vince Fiori will play a prominent role this year. I think you will see more of Reed Scott, Canaan Cropper, Matthew Vogel and Clarke Schmidt) So, stop being a bunch of woe is me fans. We have talent. Go to the games and cheer your team on and trust your coaches! The best coaches in America do not know how some of these kids are going to perform until they start playing games.

Come on. Virtually everything you put up on this board is knee jerk. Any poster who comes to such dire conclusions after one game is knee jerk to me. Unfortunately, you are just one of many. I'm sure Andy is on your knee jerk team too.

I KNOW WHAT WE CAN DO.....

FIRE CHAD HOLBROOK NOW! The season is already over. We should just forfeit every game left. I know it is only three games in and we won the series against a team that finished in the top twenty last year, and was in a Super Regional, and who will win their conference this year. BUT, he lost to College of Charleston!!

Sarcasm...

We will be fine. We are young, but will get better with every pitch, every at-bat, every out, every inning. Why don't we wait to see where this team is late April early May before we have anymore knee-jerk post about the baseball team and Holbrook's lack of coaching abilities.

Thanks for the laughs guys.

Please Conn, post more. You actually went to a game, watched it, and offered an honest assessment. This board has hit the dirt toooo much lately and it is sorely lacking in positive messages.
