Thoughts on the "taco" comment? **

Exactly! What if they'd cut to a snowcone stand when going to commercial, and he said, "maybe Carrera needs a snowcone"?? Same could be said for any other food item they could have cut to as they went to commercial. Neal saw what the viewer saw, and simply suggested a taco (or any other food item) may end Carrera's frustration.

It's ridiculous how quickly some people look for an opportunity to create a PC issue. There are certainly plenty of racial problems in this country. But, there was absolutely nothing racially offensive or insensitive about Neal's remarks.

What's funny is you somehow correlate being offensive as being tough.

Trust me, I'd love to call out every piece of trash I see but I was raised better.

Maybe you weren't ?
Fyi, the poster isn't equating being offensive with being tough, but is equating not taking offense to things as being tough ... which kind of fits the definition. Also, it sounds like you "love" to judge people, but based on your upbringing, you don't speak your mind very often ... lovely.

They had Horn backing this guy up - that says something about the announcers credentials right there. How many times did ingenious Horn say last night - "In important games, you need your best players to play well."

With the amount of sports games on TV now, it spreads the professionalism real thin across the board. Last night was a good example. It was a stupid immature comment by an announcer who just couldn't help himself - so he blurted out (without thinking) some childish comment. Unfortunately, it was on National TV.

They were showing a taco stand on TV, it was an innocent comment by Dave Neal. Michael Carrera just happens to be Latino, which made the comment seem somewhat related, but it clearly wasn't. This is a non-story.

Sadly , its a story on this site for some gamecocks fans, because the player is a gamecock. The whole thread is asinine.

Nobody, outside of this small world, from a few small minded people, take anything offensive for what Neal said.

Yep, it's like clockwork...same few who jump all over everyone for having an opinion or for trying to have a conversation on a message board. They usually resort to name-calling in a matter of minutes.

Eating a Taco the right way is an art form.

Rub some cream on that vajajay

I actually went to Taco Bell for lunch for the first time in nearly 6 months after reading this thread. No idea why, but had a hankerin' for it. If the op is doing subliminal advertising for Taco Bell, well played.

If the USofA is going to be the melting pot of the world (which it is), I suggest we desensitize to these subtle, or maybe even poignant comments and/or remarks by others. Easy for me to say right?

jesus tap-dancing christ on a cracker

I log in trying to get some insight on the ball game I missed last night, only to find - YET AGAIN - the longest thread by far about the game is a tard-alanche about....you guessed it...racism

this board is populated by complete idiots who can't seem to fathom the meaning of the words SMALL TALK.

Why does he have to dance on a cracker? RACIST!

I'm going to cry in my pillow now....

I had fish taco and a bbq brisket taco today.....dave neal is genius. Plus, Cantina obviously only hires good looking white chicks....certainly something must be done to stop this favoritism!

on a similar subject, when sorority girls sing about another sorority and say "chi O chi O, its off to bed we go" are they now liable for character assassination by calling them sluts?

btw, i have yet to take the time to watch any sae oklahoma video, but I could care less what they do at their parties at age 20.
not sure what is worse ( PC wise) between them and the black face parties at clemson....but obviously the universities treat them way differently.

the biggest problem with the political correctness is that it makes it difficult to make fun of anyone. I am not talking abut cruel bullying, i am referring to making jokes in private with a group of like minded people. "A Christian, a Jew and a Muslin walk into a bar....etc" If we are now holding people responsible for what they say in private (as in the case with Mitt Romney and his 47%) and in this case, we are closer to big brother than i ever thought we would get.

as for the taco comment, anyone offended should get a life....as this confirms that you do not have one. I am not calling out anyone in particular as I have not read all the posts.

I sure hope we can play our best game of the season tonight....ole Piss started our downfall when we got the crap beat out of us earlier in the season. I hope we can return the favor. Plus they also have a bunch of hotties who attend the school which is unfair to schools like clemson.

Decock, you, too are one of my favorite posters. It ticks me off when someone as loyal as chick75 can't ask an honest question.

When a busload of drunk frat boys saying the 'n' word leads the newscast on all three channels, then I'd say we've reached a new low in being offended. You want to hear the 'n' word? Listen to rap music, OR, drive through a housing project, you'll hear that term over and over.

A few nights later, two police officers were ambushed in Missouri by gunfire, and the news didn't spend as much time on that story as they did on drunk kids displaying their freedom of speech, albeit offensive freedom of speech. Expelled from OU? If that was me, I'd hire a Civil Rights (ACLU type) and sue OU.

You can't fix stupid, but you can't violate these kid's right to say what they want....

Hell, if I was offended by what people say to me, I'd be suicidal....

GTH over it, the often offended!

I always enjoy how the people who complain about the "PC police" tend to be the most sensitive and quick to be offended when THEIR sensibilities are challenged.

[insert, for the millionth time, an explanation about how little the First Amendment actually guarantees and how the "freedom of speech" does not mean "freedom from consequences"]

you're right, while I don't condone such speech, its unconstitutional for OU to expel them...however, if I were the students in question, I would not return to OU....my life would be to important for me to risk some nuts' retaliation.

I "ALWAYS" love that too. Oh wait, I can't think of any examples. But I'm sure you've got plenty of examples to share with us. I'll wait....

There are always consequences for actions or words spoken, and these idiots likely got what they deserved. However, being expelled from a public university for being stupid is not legal. They hurt feelings and crossed lines of decency, but hardly broke any laws that I am aware of here??? I'd likely transfer as well, but forcing them out isn't legal...

I am deeply offended by the remark...nobody offered me a taco...one of God's greatest creations.

Exactly... raising a generation of pu..... I mean softies. is that ok?

If you opened THIS thread ("Thoughts on the "Taco" comment) hoping to find insights on a ball game, then YOU are the idiot here. I hope at least 10% of your 26000+ posts are more purposeful than this one.

Goodness gracious...seriously? I laughed at the comment because it made me think I could use a taco at that moment too as I was getting as frustrated as Carrera was at that moment. I DID NOT even think about the fact that Carrera is Latino with that comment until I just saw this thread. For the people who apparently didn't see it, they showed a replay of Carrera obviously demonstrating he was frustrated and immediately cut to a view of a taco stand in looking around at different shots of the arena. And Neal immediately said that maybe he could use a taco. If he is that "Quick witted racist" then his brain operates very quickly. It was an innocent comment that was joking about Carrera's frustration NOT his ethnicity. With how quick it happened, it was obvious that had they cut to a cotton candy or dipping dots cart that he would have said, "maybe he could use some cotton candy" or "maybe he could use some dipping dots".

I did not find it offensive. It seemed to me that he made that

statement because they were showing a taco stand.

And personally, I dig tacos!

Re: I did not find it offensive. It seemed to me that he made that

So it's apparent from this board, that people from Venezuela don't eat tacos. That's what I learned today.
