Some fools got my original thread back in October closed because they were bickering on page 3. So let me state it again....

I never understood why so many on here were clamoring for the (playoff) system. It will never matter to us. Instead, we'll just sit around watching Bama and Clemson play extra games. smh

There ain't a horse that can't be rode; there ain't a man that can't be throwed. Whatever they can do, others can do if they devote the resources to doing it.

Not us because our resources don't know their capabilities or inadequacies or how to overcome them. They are check cashing baby kissers

I don't understand the OP....the team I watched last night is clearly a top 2 football team. Every damn position they have guys making plays.

At no point did I state Clemson isn't a top 2 team. Let me slow it down for you: if we still had the BCS, Clemson would not be in the Championship Game. Is that fair? I don't care if it is or it isn't. I care about one thing: Is it good for Carolina?

Well , good then the system got it right. The 2 best teams are playing.

When you don't want to hear the truth. Call somebody a tater.

No. You're a self-hating Gamecock who loves, loves, LOVES watching Bama and Clemson play. I bet you would love to see an 8 team playoff so you could watch them play more games each year.

It's good that Clemson is in the Championship Game. Really? Here's you some Tiger porn, jeff. Be swarmed over by sweaty Clemson players. Enjoy.

Wow. You might need a new hobby......

The larger impact of the playoff is to kill off the bowls. That hasn't happened yet and some here will cheer when it does but that's my prediction. When our season annually ends in November because we aren't good enough for a playoff and there is no bowl to go to I'll be the one with the "I told you so"post.

Yes, I think you're right. One of the most pessimistic voices on the playoff system is Nick Saban and he has said something similar to what you say. He's been in the playoff every year, so it's not a case of sour grapes.

So far the 6 semi-final games have been terrible, save the OSU-Bama game in 2014. Just turrible. The playoff is bad for USC, bad for college football.

During it's tenure, you couldn't find 10 people who liked the BCS. It was constantly being changed from year to year. It was a very bad system, and everybody rejoiced when it was scuttled.

BCS- goodbye, good riddance

People rejoiced when the last Tsar of Russia was deposed. Russia got Lenin, Trotsky and Stalin in his place. Such is life.

Personally, I think the OP is correct. The playoff system DOES benefit Clemson (and the ACC, and the PAC14, and frankly any school not in the SEC or BIG). Those two conferences get the benefit of the doubt in most situations
and that has been earned by decades of fielding good teams. That doesn't mean that they are the best THIS year though. The playoffs were designed to create a NC game where the two best teams are playing. As the OP pointed
out, this year, those two teams would have been Bama and OSU. Clemson (and Washington) would have been on the outside looking in. But the BCS got ditched PRECICELY because of this. I don't think that anyone can say at this
point that OSU is a better team than Clemson. IF USC (west) beats Penn State today and given Michigan's loss to FSU, a pretty good argument can be made that the best 4 teams got in. And out of those 4 teams, the best two
are playing for the NC. Mission accomplished for the Playoffs. The old BCS would have gotten it wrong.
I don't agree with the above statement that the bowls we had will be destroyed by the new system. Teams love to go bowling and fans of the teams love to watch "one more game". Meaningless bowl games were everywhere during the
BCS era (so much so that it became possible to get to a bowl with a .500 record AND NOW with a LOSING record. Sure, the stadiums aren't full, but the fans want it.
Now that being said, the OP was very clear that he wasn't interested in "getting it right" or being fair or anything like that. He was only interested in what's good for USC football. He is entirely correct.
Win or Lose next week, Dabo has (and frankly for the last month HAS HAD) a national platform to preach from and continue building Clemson's brand. This is win-win for Clemson. Bama is hands down the best
football program in the country. Everyone knows that and it's not even close. If Clemson loses... meh, no one expected us to win anyway. Dabo can hit the recruiting trail and sell "you are the missing piece".
Win and ... well, that sells itself. Neither of those situations is particularly good for USC football.

Everything he said....plus, to all those saying "if we just commit to spending money like Clemson, blah, blah, blah...." Do you folks realize if we had Clemson's exact same team in a Gamecock uniforms we wouldn't have even won our conference? The playoff is designed to ensure equal (as much as possible) participation for the Power 5 conferences. When 2 teams from the same conference make it in, I'll believe that's not the case.

I believe the new play-off system was exposed this year by selecting Ohio State as the #3 team, even when they didn't win their conference. Playing in the (apparent) weak BIG, and being one of the largest programs in the land, gave them preferential treatment over some other school (of which, I'm not trying to name). I believe the Trojans will further expose the conference tomorrow as being overrated.

^^^^ Oh, I can definitely see the relevance between overthrowing a kingdom and replacing it with communism compared to a college football determination of who wins a championship.

It's analogy. Here's a simile or metaphor or whatever it's called: you are like one of Lenin's useful idiots.

Here's another term to learn today

Ad hominem (Latin for "to the man" or "to the person"[1]), short for argumentum ad hominem, is a logical fallacy in which an argument is rebutted by attacking the character, motive, or other attribute of the person making the argument, or persons associated with the argument, rather than attacking the substance of the argument itself.

How about red herring? You can't refute the premise of this thread: the playoff system has benefited Clemson.

Replace Clemson with any other team in football and this isn't even a thread. The fact that it's our rival that is the only reason you're complaining. the playoff committee got it right and the BCS was horrible. every college football fan wanted some form of a playoff and We got that. It just sucks to see our main instate rival competing in the playoff

Clemson has taken their program to another level and some are having a hard time accepting this and are throwing anything they can think of up against the wall to try to make them feel better about it

I don't need a tiger fan to like my post...I state the obvious in my opinion post...At GC ...The rules , read it, but don't respond

Your the one saying the playoff system benefits clemson and that simple isn't true. The playoff system benefits the best teams in general because teams have to win a extra game to get to the title game. If your a pretender you will be found out in the semifinals. No free passes to the title game based off a stupid formula. The BCS was not a good system at all to decide the national championship teams.

Nick Saban is pessimistic on the playoff because it made it harder for him to get his national championships. Take 2014, for example. The BCS would have matched Bama up with undefeated and very overrated FSU for the title. Bama would have rolled FSU. Instead, OSU and Oregon were invited to the party, and the two "best" teams didn't even make it to the title game. This year, Bama could have played their backups and beaten OSU for the championship. Instead, they have to play Clemson again. They may beat Clemson again, but ask Saban if he's excited about facing them again.

Nick Saban doesn't give a shit about players, school schedules, quality of other bowls, or any other lame excuse he gives. Nick Saban cares about Nick Saban and his collection of national championship trophies. The playoff is a threat to that, nothing more.
