[Wolken is a d-bag for talking crap about South Carolina. But he is right about Kirby Smart. He is a risky hire for South Carolina. He is a much riskier hire for UGA.]
And with all that to offer, as well as the financial resources and cachet of being in the SEC, you’re going to move aside Richt for a first-time head coach because he’s an alum and you’d prefer he not go to South Carolina first?
That would be unimaginative and unambitious. It’s the kind of thing you do if you’re South Carolina or Mississippi State. It’s not what Georgia should be doing.
If this is the kind of big-boy job most of the country thinks it is, Georgia needs to pursue the biggest names out there. You start by calling the likes of Gary Patterson, David Shaw and Mike Gundy and you work your way down. If the worst you can do is Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen or Houston’s Tom Herman — and they’d undoubtedly be interested — you’ve done well.
