Has anyone else noticed how poorly USC mens teams have performed vs Clempson over the last year? This past year football lost (for the third year in a row), baseball lost, mens basketball lost and soccer lost twice! This should not be acceptable.

Carolina won the innaugural Palmetto Series cup but only because the USC women were very successful against the lady farmers.

It is time for some pressure on Tanner. Has he learned the ABC's....Always Beat Clempson?????!!!!!!!!!! The buck stops at the top. Lots of Hyman bashers on this board loved to lay the blame at his foot but for some reason Tanner as AD seems to get a pass.

GO COCKS!!!

Bottomline is they are better at football and soccer. With our senior leader, we beat them in basketball rather easily. Baseball could go either way.

He doesn't get a pass from me. I think he's done a terrible job.

Because some of us know the problem goes deeper than Tanner. I'm talking about guys above his head, above Pastide's head. It's the culture they accept and push on us as fans and alumni to accept and donate to support. Tanner is just one spoke on the wheel, my friend. Firing him won't "drain the swamp".

Ok, who would you fire or hire ? Right now ? A lot of complaining about Tanner , but no solutions. Let's hear it.

We need fresh board members. You'd see a world of difference if we did just that. We need some "behind the curtain string pullers" like Tater tech has. We laugh at them but you have to hand it to them, everyone on that campus marches to the same drum beat. Even the cops are in check up there.

Every comment made above is valid, very valid. USC management, from the BOT to the presidents office, does not get it, nor do they have any interest in doing so. Money is flowing in so all must be good. It will be the same in five years.

Same board members are in the programs year after year. What is their motivation? Staying in power, scratching each others backs?

Their motivation is their interest 1st, USC's 2nd. I can make a blanket statement like that because this same stuff has been going on ever since I can remember. Too many politics and self servers along with a backstabbing newspaper and you have our situation.

Columbia City Council has also worked against the university although it hasn't been as bad the last decade or so.

The guy who hired the two coaches with the most success against Clemson (Tanner/Spurrier) was Mike McGee, although I wouldn't call him a great AD overall.
Eric Hyman did nothing to contribute to wins over Clemson. He was too busy destroying our basketball program and staying out of Spurrier's/Tanner's way.
Clemson started to morph into a national power under HYMAN's watch--NOT Tanner's.

Lot of revisionist history on this board. Lot of sulking and looking for anyone to blame.

My question is, what skill set is required to make a successful AD? And does Ray Tanner possess that skill set?

Didn't realize Tanner plays on the football, basketball, baseball and soccer teams. He must be a very talented player.

I'm still waiting on your specific list.
Just look at the records of our teams over the past several years. That's all you need to look at. The 3 major sports have accomplished nothing. Even the Equestrian program has collapsed. Do I really have to outline it for you? Look at how he handled the weather situation the past 2 football seasons. Look at how he handled SOS and the football coach search. He obviously had a hand in Sin's suspension and the PR disaster that followed. He's done nothing but execute Hyman's master plan regarding facilities. He's done absolutely nothing else and it shows.

I posted a while back about the time he came to ATL for a meeting with the ATL Gamecock Club. It was a second rate event. Instead of a smooth, slick video showing us all of the facilities projects on the horizon or under construction, he brought along about a dozen placards that he held himself above his head. It was as unpolished a presentation as I've seen. He is a bumpkin.

Lots of clueless people who think they know how to run an athletics dept who have never worked in an athletics dept. Blaming Tanner for moving game after floods? Had to be done as emergency personnel not available. Moving game after hurricane for same reason was a sound decision as well. Funny how people assume that when a team loses it's because they didn't want to win. That's not how it works.

Sindarious situation - the kid violated team/athletic dept. policy. It's a no-brainer. Had nothing to do with Tanner. Tanner is a guy with character. Other programs (Oklahoma) allow criminals to play. Remember when Ray booted to good baseball players for stealing?
As for the football coach...if you didn't see a turnaround this year, you're blind. It will take some time, as it took Dabo time to build Clemson, but it can be done.

Last time I checked baseball went to Super Regional last year. Not exactly a bad year. Men's basketball tied school record for regular season wins last year. It appears those programs are pointed in the right direction.

As for facilities projects. Visit other campuses and see what they are doing. SC is just catching up in a lot of areas. Unfortunately these projects are necessary evils to recruit today's kids. If you don't see that, go back to the 1960s.

Too many folks hinge their whole year on one game (vs. Clemson) and assume all is going to hell if we don't win that game. It's laughable.

Keep defending him the way some posters kept defending Fat Brad, Horn, Sparky, Fig Newton and even King Dixon. Loyalty and support is one thing. Blind loyalty like this is your kid is another. For every year RT remains in charge it'll take the next guy at least 1.5 years to fix it. In a couple of years, that adds up.

Ah yes the weekly who do we fire next thread. Elliott is gone so we must pick a new scapegoat. After the next loss it will be Martin and after his first loss it will be Holbrook and God forbid Muschamp have a recruit decomitted. If ya'll had your way we would have a different head coach in every sport every year and a new AD every year.

Nice try. I've never seen a poster act as you say. But, I've seen posters, myself included, spot incompetence and voice the need to fix the situation.

Not blind loyalty, just seeing how clueless you are. Men's basketball is winning. Baseball went to supers last year. Football improved this year. Those are facts. I never defended Fat Brad, Horn, Sparky etc. Not sure what you are complaining about. Maybe you should just take your ball and go home.

Yep. Pretty much. It's an ugly aspect of human nature. I remember when we got destroyed in the SECCG, the mob on FGF was ready to tar and feather Stephon Gilmore and Ellis Johnson. The mob couldn't accept the fact that Cam Newton was really good. No, we had to eat our own: two of the people most important in the rise of our football program during the best time in its history.

And let's he honest: would we have this thread if Clemson wasn't playing for a national title? But, once again, because we can't accept that Deshaun Watson is really good, we need to make someone pay: that person is the most successful coach in the history of our university. Sad!

And "coach" is what he should have remained. Our rival has a pro at the top. They are about to open the most imaginative, comprehensive, and unique football operations building in the country - on Signing Day. Imagination. Creativity. Leadership. They have it; we need it. Now maybe Tanner can provide it and maybe he can't, but he needs to step it up if he has it in him.

Meh. They are doing just fine without it. We did fine without it. More than creativity, Clemson's AD possessed the patience to stick with Dabo after losing 5 in a row to Carolina.

As for Tanner as AD, I'm just saying it's too soon to judge. And we definitely shouldn't judge him based on the lack success in one sport relative Clemson during his short tenure.

Clueless, eh? I guess I'm so clueless that I'm blind to all of the trophies we've accumulated over the past few years.

Football - never played in a BCS bowl, and haven't made the the playoffs. We lost to El Cid. We were damn lucky to beat ECU this year. SOS abused us at the end under RT's watch.
Basketball - can't even make the dance. Lost to UGA last year 3x. That takes some doing.
Beisbol - RT's hand picked successor hasn't come close to maintaining, much less exceeding, the excellence RT created. Lost at home in the Supers.

That's RT's legacy thus far. Do you honestly believe Chad is as good as RT? Do you honestly think Boom is as good as SOS? Do you honestly think Frank will win championships at SC? He can't even sign half the home grown talent.

"Just fine" ain't cutting it. Tanner isn't that new, and he's no more than two years away from days of reckoning on several different fronts. It's coming time for him to show that he is more than Pastides' surrogate in the AD chair.

I used "just fine" in the past tense. We went 33-6 over 3 years without a fancy football castle.

33-6 was eons ago. We can't poke fun at Clemp's 1981 season and at the same time conjure up our 11 win seasons. That's hypocrisy. Especially when RT had nothing to do with them.

My problem is he watched spurrier kick his feet up on the desk and play golf rather than work. Clemson was building while we acted like we don't give a damn. Now, I have stated it before but I want acknowledgement that after 56-7 the ad recognizes problems and everything will be done to solve them. What do we get? Absolutely silent.

Because the day of the "fancy football castle" had not fully arrived. Well, it's here. So get out there and compete - or move to the AAC.

My point is we don't need fancy stuff as much as we need to TACKLE SOMEONE!

This program needs to get back to fundamentals. Needs to get tough. I trust that's what Coach Muschamp is trying to do. We don't have to wait until the university to builds Shangri-La for that to happen.

Actions speak louder than words, but usually not as soon.
