Shouldn’t a coach keep their political views to themselves?

Why? It's not a rule.

No one else keeps their political or other opinions to themselves. Why should coaches be expected to do something no one else does?

You don't keep yours to yourself. I don't keep mine to myself. No one on this board does. People that I have worked with don't keep their political opinions to themselves.

Numerous business leaders, pastors, politicians, talk show hosts, media personalities, celebrities don't keep their opinions to themselves. Hell, we have a home builder in my area that has political slogans all over the outside of his company trucks and a big sign up at his office- 100% political. He has every right to do that and make his political opinions known.

I think the "keep your political opinion to yourself" is as old fashioned and the idea of that is dead as roadkill.

and why is it that the people that spout their political opinion 24/7 want people to "keep their political opinions to themselves?"

Many coaches make political statements- and give their opinions on political issues or other issues. Some of the most famous coaches in history have been quite political and made it known. Some posters on this very board sure did love it when Mike Leach gave his opinions- including on political matters.

It seems that Dawn Staley really upsets a tiny percentage of men when she does it.

For some reason these genius athletes feel they have a "platform" due to their athleticism to give their opinion. And like sheep so many people think "Oh man if Lebron or Dawn Staley thinks that then I guess I should too". I rarely take an athletes opinion on anything outside of their particular sports seriously.

They have as much right as anyone else to offer their opinion on anything. Everyone has a "platform" of some type- it might just be this message board for you- and likely no one really cares about your opinion. But that's your problem.

It's not new that athletes have platforms for speaking their mind. It's as much a part of all sports as anything else.

If talk show hosts or podcasters who have spent their entire lives working behind a microphone at a radio station - and often nothing else- can give political opinions and thousands, if not millions of people follow along like robots, athletes can certainly give their opinion.

Numerous cable news hosts, especially on Fox, have made a career of transitioning from nothing but sports talk show hosts to cable hosts opinion talkers and millions of people follow their every word.

She's rubbed more than just a small piece of the fanbase wrong. In my opinion, it's fine if Staley wants to speak her mind on these issues as long as she doesn't complain about the critcism that comes her way from doing that.

She hasn't. It's a tiny percentage- and there aren't enough of them to fill a Dixie cup. They just whine like 2 year olds a lot and make noise online. 100% irrelevant.
Not having the team come out for National Anthem that one year was stupid and embarassing.

Nonsense. Staley and others have repeatedly said this occurred because they chose to play the anthem at the 10-12 minute mark before the game and the team doesn't come out on the court during that time. LSU's coach said the same thing- and faced nothing like what Coach Staley did with right wing national whiners.

Several players (I believe it was several) chose to sit for the anthem on occasion and they had every right to do so.

“We kind of have a routine when they’re on the floor and they come off at the 12-minute mark. I don’t know, we come in and we do our pregame stuff. I’m sorry, listen, that’s nothing intentionally done.” - Kim Mulkey

“We’re just creatures of habit. I think it was played at the 12- or 10-minute mark [on the countdown clock before the game started]. That’s just not the time that we’re out on the court because of our pregame ritual. If the national anthem is at triple 0’s like it was today, we were out there standing for the national anthem.” Dawn Staley

Cancellation the series with BYU because she was worried about her team being threatened was stupid and embarrassing. Stating that if you feel like you're a woman you should be able to play women's sports was stupid and embarassing. Calling out Geno and Iowa's coach for their benign comments was stupid and embarassing. Crying about the White House not inviting her team quick enough was stupid and embarassing.

She can cancel any series she likes for any reason. She had every right to cancel the series when she and her coaching staff believed her players could possibly subject to racial epithets. She doesn't owe you or anyone else anything else.

Calling out Geno for anything is always great. Calling out any coach is always great. Calling out Geno for taking childish pot shots at our university putting up a statue of the best women's basketball player in the history of our school is what any decent human being and any decent coach would do.

Blasting the White House for inviting the team months later - months later than other teams- and when they were already preparing for the upcoming season was not Dawn Staley's fault and she was 100% correct.

"While other championship teams received invitations from President Trump — including the NBA champion Golden State Warriors, the NHL champion Pittsburgh Penguins and the NCAA men's basketball champion North Carolina Tar Heels, Staley's team remained in the dark"

“We haven’t gotten an invitation yet and that in itself speaks volumes. We won before those other teams won their championships. I don’t know what else has to happen.”

The night her squad won the school’s first national championship, the Hall of Famer said the team would go to the White House because “it’s what it stands for. It’s what national champions do.”

But the invitation never came. As the summer wore on, Staley indicated it was less likely they would be able to attend. When practice started for the 2018 campaign, the Gamecocks decided it was time to focus on upcoming opponents, not the 2017 season. "

Gomer -- Staley's gaffes have received national attention on several occasions. What's tiny is your brain. :)

"Once you accept that many people do not think but simply 'feel', you'll understand the world better."

If so hopefully it won’t leave them with the extreme brain damage that plagues you 🙏

Hopefully, it provides them with the opportunity to live their life on their terms, retire very early, and then do whatever they want- like me.

This flies directly in the face of the DEI policies, etc. you've laid out from your employer over the last few months.

With that said, we all hope you have as much time as possible to explore who you really are during your "journey."

YESSSS! Mommy’s basement has been very very good to you. Thank God for parents that take care of their children that can’t make it “real world”.

Long before she died, she lived in a guest house behind my house on the lake. Wonderful last years.

She came a long way from picking tobacco on an upstate SC farm with her brothers and sisters to living in a 3800 square foot mother in law suite behind my home.

"..that level is absurd. If I landed a job making 2 million a year, I'd give it my best but if they fired me after a few years, I'd buy me a nice lake house, put a million or so in some mutual funds, and never work again for a living. I'd cut grass for a few family friends for gas..."

Right……….. mental illness is a turrible thing. Im also sure the “guest house” was 5800 sq ft minimum with a 400 ft lift that rode you down to the 2700 sq ft boat house housing JFK’s fully restored teakwood Chris-Craft.

no. I accurately described it above. No boat house. Have a large dock and sitting area with a sheet metal roofed canopy though. I don't like the way boat houses clutter up things. I currently have a 2021 (Sea Ray) SDX 290.

But, it's now time to hit the intracoastal instead of talking to buffoons on here sitting behind their keyboards all day. LOL

It's wonderful having a Snazzy Gomer on this forum.

Ha. He's turned off as much access to his previous content as possible to cover his present fabrications. But unfortunately he can't do anything about the raw search function of the site. His Achilles Heel.
Funniest one I heard was, he grew up the son of a poor share cropper of tobacco in the upstate. So many things wrong with that statement I can’t even begin

LMAO! You love talking about your shitty little house and boat. I’m DeeDave, I sit on my dock and stare at my boat, while popping my cialis and responding to messages on a forum. REEEE!

More like he loves fantasizing about having a lake house, boat AND a private river that takes you all the way from Murray to the intercoastal waterway. Unfortunately just like his house and boat that does not exist. Sorry Skippy you can’t get there from here………. BUT, just like everything else in your fantasy world don’t let a small thing like facts keep you from dreaming.

Not sure how someone can be as confused as you. LOL

Not a share-cropper. Tobacco farming was quite popular in South Carolina in the 1950s. My grandfather farmed tobacco in the upstate and sold it. My mom, along with her sisters and brothers worked the fields with by grandfather because he refused -and likely couldn't because of lack of finances- to pay for help. It wasn't pleasant. My grandfather was quite abusive.

It's not difficult to post from one's property. LOL

However, like you, I don't post every day like a few on here do.

“Earn” that’s a hard LOL! “Obtain”, yes! “Unlike you” haha! Sorry, I don’t need a piece of paper to make money or feel superior to others. Little D

It's definitely earn. You don't know anything about that.

Has nothing to do with making more money of feeling superior. It has 100% to do with me making fun of a you about it though.

I realize you'd have no idea, but having a truck to transport a boat is a real thing. You might even get lucky and see people pulling a boat on the highway.

Even better, you can pay someone to transport your boat as needed. This is best.

That's not for looks. That's functional in that they are taking their boat somewhere to use.

and no, my "houseboat" does not exist because I do not have one. LOL

Keeping whining. :D

Your feminist ass definitely cannot back a trailer into the water; that’s why you “pay” someone to move it. LMFAO! Your wife has bigger balls than you, I bet.

Right……………….. because everyone builds a 5 million dollar home on the wrong body of water so they can pay a transporter to hual their boat 2 hours away to another body of water they meant to build their home on but bought the wrong waterfront property. 100% happens all the time. That’s how I got my 23,000 sq ft intercoastal waterway mansion with a 11,000 square-foot two story on water Pavilion. Man the concerts we have up top are legandary. The cool thing is I bought it at the tax auction for pennies on the dollar because you bought the WRONG home. Thanks again Deanne. Oh and I emailed you the invoice for hualing and docking your johnboat at my marina. Please don’t be late with your payment again or I’ll have no choice but to put a lean on your singlewide. Thanks for your attention to this matter.
