We Are Firmly Entrenched as a WBB School...

Overall...considering all his responsibilities....yes.
I agree that he represents the university well and he is a good fundraiser. Our graduation rate is pretty good. But the man doesn’t know a damn thing about hiring coaches. Part of the job is to oversee our competitive sports programs and to expect excellence not only off the field but on the field. Our on field performance should be a major part of how the AD is evaluated and with the exception of womens BB, soccer and golf we aren’t cutting it. I think Beamer will improve the football program, at least I hope so. The Muschamp and Holbrook hires were disasterous. I admittedly know nothing about how to hire an AD but I think I would avoid hiring a former coach and instead would look for someone that has a degree in sports administration. We complain that Beamer shouldn‘t have been hired because he had no head coaching experience yet Tanner had no AD experience when we hired him. I just think it’s time for us to expect more out of our AD.

No…not Beamer at all. I’m still on his side and happy we got bowl eligible. This year was better than I expected, despite tonight.

Tanner has shown ineptitude with:

hiring muschamp

extending muschamps contract, costing a crap ton of money

baseball irrelevance

men’s basketball irrelevance (other than 1 year)

the “U of SC” stupidity

mismanagement of football seat licensing and ticket prices

again, I’m on board with Shane still and think he needs time.

No AD would've turned away Holbrook at that time.....he was the hottest assistant baseball coach in the southeast and turned down Tennessee and ECU to stay with Tanner. Muschamp hire was bad....no doubt....but he went after Herman, Smart, and Riley also. Herman choase to wait for Texas. UGA fired a successful coach to get Smart and Riley withdrew his name shortly after returning to Norman....you can figure out why. Traditionally, ADs have all been former coaches...."Sports Administration" degree?!?!? LOL....Those didn't even exist in the early 1980s.

Baseball seems to be in good hands. Basketball? Hyman hired Martin....and when the subject arose regarding Martin's buyout last year, the SC Legislature threatened the Universities request for funding of the medical school. The "U of SC" had absolutely nothing to do with the athletic department....that was the University.

RT brought us the greatest success any program had achieved before Dawn and her outstanding teams. I am proud that our baseball program has 2 CWS titles and Tanner is directly responsible for those. However the days of making a current or former coach the AD ended in the 70’s or 80’s. It’s too big of a job for someone without the training to make it work, with the one exception of Barry Alvarez at Wisconsin.

When SOS bailed on us we were the first school to lose a coach and the last to hire. Tanner couldn’t get it done.and this didn’t happen in the 80’s.

He had Herman until it became obvious that Strong was a dead-man walking at Texas.
He had Smart until UGA chose to fire Richt.
On what planet do you live on and believe we can get a coach that Texas and UGA want? Maybe, he should have gone after Satterfield and abandoned Herman and Smart....but he would have been criticized for that also. Another popular choice....Fuente made it very clear he didn't want to coach in the SEC and now we know why.

And Florida has one of those "professional ADs" and he blew through McElwain and Mullen.

So getting stuck with Muschamp wasn’t Tanner’s fault. Never knew.

Well we have a new President so now Tanner can fix the problem.
Tanner's contract will have expired and we will have a new AD before we fire Beamer....and you know that. We simply don't do the "next man up" after 2/3 years that Florida and a few other schools do.

Yeah Tanner won’t fire Beamer because he thought Beamer was the right choice to be HC.

Nope. He will give him an opportunity as he would any other coach. And he is smart enough to know that firing a coach after one year when he just got you bowl eligible for the first time in three years will kill a coaching search.

I am not saying that we should fire Beamer. I think that he will turn out to be the best hire Tanner has made. What I am saying that the downfall of the baseball and football programs occurred with Tanner as AD and he has had trouble righting the ship. I hope that Kingston and Beamer bring great success in their programs and then I will take back most of
what I have said about Tanner. I know I probably stepped on some toes with my comments but I respect everyone’s opinion even if they don’t always respect mine.

I admire that you will spin it any way to try to defend Tanner for some reason.

Every legitimate coach knows we messed up by hiring someone no one else wanted. Which is why none of these high profile hires he was claimed to have lined up came to work for him.

Because I know what happened....as do a few others on this board. But as I said before, you believe your sources and I will believe mine.

Its a shame you don’t realize you’re being fed the lost cause narrative as everyone tries to shield themselves from the impending disaster.

My two sources were not on the interview committee eventhough they are both on the IAC....they were both pissed off about members of the board getting involved. They have nothing to shieid themselves from.
