Or the players don't like what they see in Hoke.Originally posted by world famous 3rd base hecklers:

I know this is just matter of opinion and no one really knows, but I thought "jumping ship" the first couple of transfers. Then hung on to that after 3, 4.....and 5, but we are now at 10 I believe. This, coupled with Spurrier's comments, new coach, give me the "live up to your expectations, or find another team" feel to it. Who knows?Originally posted by ReadR00ster:
Wow, good luck Blake McClain. We hardly knew ya. It doesn't make sense to recruit these guys and run them off after only one year. It seems more like players "jumping ship" than the coaches "cleaning house."
Yeah, maybe they realize the party is over and Hoke is going to get their tails in shape. It's kind of crazy to see this many guys leaving, but it was also pretty crazy to see how bad our defense was last year. Honestly, the status quo would have been the worst thing for us. Change is a good thing in our scenario.Originally posted by ReadR00ster:

I think Hoke has total control of the defense now and probably told the guys if they don't want to be here, then leave. I'm just speculating of course but Hoke can probably make any decision he wants with the defensive players. The first thing Vangorder did for his 2 week stay at Carolina as DC was pull a scholarship on a recruit so he had free reign to do what he wanted. The players may not want to play for Hoke also like the two guys that left the basketball program when Martin was hired.Originally posted by _NOVA_:
First and foremost, it's highly unlike Hoke has anything to do with these transfers. Normally transfers that happen at the end of the season are a long time coming and the staff has earmarked certain players as likely transfers throughout the season. That's not to say a blow-up or coaching change cannot be the driving force for a transfer, but these seem like more attitude and performance based decisions. Hoke hasn't been on the staff long enough to make sweeping decisions about jettisoning players. These decisions are being made by Ward and the LB/DL position coaches.
Second, none of these are all that surprising. South Carolina is going to have a ton of options at DL. And if they stick with the 2 LB system, a ton of options at LB. The only surprising thing might be none of these transfers are coming from the secondary, which might be your logical spot to see players leave because of Brown's demotion and/or Hoke making some quick evaluations.
I don't doubt that Hoke as the authority to move kids off the team. I just find it highly doubtful he'd be the one making these types of decisions a few weeks into the job. He's kept all the position coaches and Ward as the co-DC. It would be awfully foolish of him to force kids to transfer based on just barely interacting with them and watching tape, without relying heavily on their positions coaches and the other DC to be the primary decision makers. Moreover, the way South Carolina recruited this cycle, measured against how many DLs and LBs they traditionally have carried, would tell you transfers were likely coming from those position groups. They needed to get to the total scholarship limit and these were more or less the players that made sense.Originally posted by sclawman77:

Can someone please explain why there are a handful of people on this site that will try to find a way to bash every sport that we have? From the players to the coaches. This is unreal.
We have guys on here that are complaining about the pitching staff after a week, players leave the football program for undisclosed reasons and these posters are ready to have every defensive coach fired/ran out of town.
I would love to call these individuals out by name for this crap, but I can't say their names due to being blacklisted by attacking a poster. You know who you are so do us all a favor, you know the ones who actually care about our athletics and want them to do well and stop posting you garbage on this board.
Either way, adios amigos. Vaya con Dios!Originally posted by ReadR00ster:

Cocky4, they are attention seekers who no one pays attention to on the street, so they come on a free forum under an anonymous user name and toss out grenades of negativity blindly in hopes of getting a reaction and some attention. The ignore feature is the best approach to these Nellies.Originally posted by CaliCock:

If that's all it takes then so will most all of our rivals. They too brought in great defensive talent as well. You guys make it sound like its a switch that just forgot to be turned on last year. I expect improvement but not a transformation in year one. Dukes and Lamin and Griffin and others were just as highly rated and they didn't walk in and show out. But all these guys are different? Some of them will be but some won't.Originally posted by cockynSC66:
Hoke is going to build a top notch defense here. Anyone who is not on board will be shown the door. We got lazy last year. Hoke is here to change that. Look for us to have a top 10 D next year with the great D line we just brought in.
That is taking it a little far.Originally posted by hahnenkampf:
There is only one player from last year's defense that needs to be retained. I'm okay if all of the others transfer.
im pretty sure most of the transfers came before hoke was even hired and he hasn't been on the job long enough to 'clean house'....but if it makes these Debbie-downers feel better let em be....Originally posted by Number1pjones:
I think that Gamecock fans want to believe that Hoke is cleaning house on defense, like Strong cleaned house at Texas last season. I respect Strong for what he is doing at Texas, but I'm not convinced that he will be given enough time to turn things around.
Yes, it could be a situation where players are 'jumping ship' or it could be Hoke 'cleaning house.' As many players as we have lost, my expectations will probably be lower. Sure, maybe we're dropping dead weight, but losing depth could be an issue. I really don't know what to make of the situation. Wait and see, I guess.

The change that would be good around here is if you would STFU.
Actually it's ONE guy in particular and he is nothing more than a clueless twit who somehow gets a kick out of being a negative asshat. He does the same thing on another popular Gamecock forum and folks over there have grown tired of him as well.Originally posted by Cocky4SC:

I love it when folks post comments that allow you to quickly determine their lack of football intelligence. Makes it easier to weed out the ones to ignore.Originally posted by hahnenkampf:

I think you're right. Hoke hasn't been on the job long enough to evaluate players before spring practice.Originally posted by 01fatboy:
