We're looking for a new pitching coach

Jon Coutlangus has done a pretty good job for Landon Powell at North Greenville. Former Blow Fish pitching coach and a great Gamecock.….But then I’ve been wanting them to bring Landon back to Columbia for years but that’s another matter. He’s been killing it since day one at NGU.

Personally I'd feel a little better if we dont hire a former gamecock to take charge of hitting.

Maybe if we could hire multiple to teach what they were good at.

Hitting bombs (sorry Phil, not those kind of bombs) - Yaron Peters, Buscher
Small ball - Wingo (could teach defense too), Whit, Szwejbka, Urq (yes I'm showing my age with those two)
Doubles - Mac White (again...showing my age)
How to be a complete hitter - Bordo (yes, age again)
How to play 3B - Dave Hollins (damn I'm old)

Too bad there's a limit on number of coaches. I could build us one helluva staff if allowed.

I got an asst. in a put out and taken a run off the board with Dave Hollins. With one out, the runner on 3rd left early on a tag up and as the next batter was ready to take the next pitch, I was yelling from the third base side saying "He missed the tag, he missed the tag" Dave looked up at me and then the dugout as folks around me was telling me to stop yelling, the runner didn't miss the tag. A first for the hecklers asking a fellow heckler to stop yelling. Laughing

In the end I was right and should have gotten an asst. on the put out.

Brutal to have both those guys leave in the middle of prime recruiting. Probably going to have to promote Current or Coach Stuart to take Couch's position just to have someone out there recruiting now.

I think people forget that we had some pretty damn decent ballplayers before Ray got here. Coach Richardson and June also knew a thing or two about baseball.

I did think about Wingo but I would imagine he would be a no-go at this point in time. Lol.
What I'd like to see us get is a compact swing specialist and give him the final say on recruiting everyone that's not a pitcher. Done right, plenty of bombs, better off-speed hitting, better vision overall, balance and no apparent predetermined swings. I'd like to see us move away from a brute force mentality we cant seem to shake and focus more on bat speed. I would imagine Wingo would be one of the few former gamecocks that could make that happen.

He was here as a Student Coach, and is now at ND. He's getting some good experience. I'd love to see him back in the dugout. Not so certain it's a no-go.

I had no idea. Dont know why I thought he was playing in the bigs... although I admit I rarely follow players when the leave here. Good to know.

He was drafted by the Dodgers the same draft that we took Gamecock commit Corey Seager. Love Scotty but he was never going to move up in that system when we had Seager.

It made some rounds on SM when ND beat Clemson this year in baseball because of his being an assistant there.

I've seen CB over the years, but for the life of me I can't remember what he's up to.

Every time I watch the Naked Gun, I think of Mike Cook.
