What's the best superlative thread you've ever read on FGF?

Two best threads in general, or things I saw on here were:

When OJ Murdock signed to play for Spurrier there was a multiple Hesiman trophy winnings thread

When Kentucky ran a fake FG against us, the holder caught the ball, placed it down and then flipped it over his head to the kicker. Some yahoo on here kept arguing that the play should not have counted because the holder has knee on the ground when he caught and spotted the ball. That is great think swingbag, except for the fact that would negate every single PAT and FG

LSU, not KY.

Why is that a crash and burn, nobody has ever gotten a small detail wrong about what team we were playing in a game 10 years ago? My bad

You are misrepresenting their argument. The argument is that the usual rule is that you are down when your knee touches, but the rule makes a special exception for kicking plays so that the holder's knee being down does not count. Thus FGs and Extra points are okay, but the fake FG was not a kicking play, as no kick was attempted, thus their argument is that the special rule for kicking plays should not apply. So it wouldn't negate every PAT and FG, as the special rule applies there. Their argument is just it should not have applied on what amounted to a lateral & run play. They are wrong about this because the special rue also applies if a kick is simulated or is in position at the snap to kick the ball. NCAA rule below.

b. When any part of the ball carrier’s body, except his hand or foot, touches the ground or when the ball carrier is tackled or otherwise falls and loses possession of the ball as he contacts the ground with any part of his body, except his hand or foot [Exception: The ball remains alive when an offensive player has simulated a kick or at the snap is in position to kick the ball held for a place kick by a teammate. The ball may be kicked, passed or advanced by rule]

I am not misrepresenting their argument. Whether it is a special rule or not, the fact that fake FG/PAT get run all the time, or the kicker falls, or the snapper puts the ball down and it slps out of his hands etc etc etc, no FG/PAT has ever been called dead because the holders knee is on the ground. It is just common sense, nobody need know the special rule, how about watch football for three weeks.

Yeah you were. You were saying using their logic it would "negate every single PAT and FG." But their argument was that if an actual kick occurs the holder can have his knee down, but they questioned whether that special exemption should apply when there was no kick attempted. So the wording of the rule is critical. Since it includes simulating a planned kick, the play is legal. But you need to look at the rule to know.

But its not the first fake kick ever attempted, so they should have known or assumed that there was already a rule in there exempting the knee being down. So it is logic and common sense
