COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Deputies in Richland County have arrested Joseph Watson for his involvement in Saturday’s riot near Columbia Police Department Headquarters.

Officials said the 20-year-old was seen on video tearing down a fence on May 30 with Marshall French, who was also arrested on Thursday.

Watson was charged with inciting a riot and aggravated breach of peace.

Officials with RCSD anticipate more arrests in connection with events that took place during Saturday’s protest.

COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) – Deputies have arrested a man wanted after the protest at the State House Saturday, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.


Joshua Barnard is charged with breaking into a car, looting, larceny, aggravated breach of peace and instigating a riot, according to deputies.

Barnard was also charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and a schedule 1 substance.

Investigators are still working to identify others and additional arrests will be forthcoming.

Investigators were looking to identify Barnard following Saturday’s events. Officials said Barnard was wearing a blue floral shirt during Saturday’s incident.

They say he is part of the extremist group Boogaloo. Sheriff Leon Lott says the group wants to start a second civil war.

A Richland County emergency medical services worker, who authorities say is connected to an extremist group known as the Boogaloos, has been arrested and fired in the aftermath of last weekend’s protest-related chaos in Columbia, authorities said Friday afternoon.

Kevin Ackley, 22, faces charges of inciting a riot and aggravated breach of peace after being arrested Friday in Lexington County for his actions during the mayhem.
