Why should he be given a chance to fix what he broke? It shouldn't have been necessary to "fix" anything regarding this baseball program.I wish people would just give him a chance to fix it
Oh wow really?? Just shut up,and leave this board, dumb comparisonI'm not a chef, but I KNOW when a meal SUCKS. I'm no baseball coach, but USC baseball has declined, supported by results on the field the last three years. Progressively worse, again based on factual results. he isn't getting fired after this year, but if he doesn't get better in 2016, the fans will demand a change. Holbrook inherited a top two program, and has done nothing that indicates he is the man for this wonderful job here.
Mistake? Everyone makes mistakes every now and then.Do ya make mistakes on your job??
Glad ya are perfectMistake? Everyone makes mistakes every now and then.
But...if I took over a highly successful company and in year 3 the earnings of the company had declined by approximately 2/3s...yep, I'd lose my job. Rightfully so and regardless of whether I personally thought I should have the chance to fix it.
Defend Holbrook if you want - I've got no problem with that - but your argument here is rather immature. We don't need credentials to criticize somebody. Most of the politicians in Washington are more qualified than I am to serve in those positions, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be voted out of office. The doctor who leaves a set of tongs inside a surgery patient knows a heck of a lot more about medicine than I do, but he should probably be fired anyway. I don't have to know much about film production to know that the last Transformers movie was crap (actually, I didn't even have to see the movie to know that; I could tell it was crap because it had "Transformers" in the title). Do you get what I'm saying here? Can ya do a better job coaching??
So let me get this right ya are sayin this one season should define him as a person and a coach??Defend Holbrook if you want - I've got no problem with that - but your argument here is rather immature. Coach Holbrook... is that you?
Nobody is saying this one season....it is the steady decline over the last 3 and the continuing slide. Not only are the wins not there, the losses are becoming blowouts. Holbrook shows no intensity, as does his team. When a player strikes out he just walks off like no big deal..I would be pissed I just let my team down.So let me get this right ya are sayin this one season should define him as a person and a coach??
Really?? I am not Jay Phillips thanks for asking moronSupercock, is jay Phillips your real name?
But ya aren't Holbrook or one of the players, how do ya know how they feel??Nobody is saying this one season....it is the steady decline over the last 3 and the continuing slide. It sure sounds like ya dislike himFair weather fans are not here anymore. They have gone on to another team that is winning.
I think the folks still here are true fans feed up with losing. For years we put up with this because we had not had success. But the last few years we have found out what it feels like to be relevant. The people saying it's alright and accept what we are doing are stuck in the old ways of USC.
We all love the Gamecocks or we wouldn't waste time posting on a message board. And we will all have different opinions but we don't have to accept mediocrity anymore. My personal way of looking at our coaches is, is the team better at the end of the year than they were when they started. If the coach is doing his job then we should be able to answer this as YES.
I don't dislike Chad Holbrook. I don't really know him. But so far this year as with the last three we are worse now than we started. All teams have bad years and injuries. But I think what everybody can see is a downward pattern.
So let's continue to support our Gamecocks by expecting fire from our coaches. Let them show they care about more than a paycheck (A very large one at that). We don't know what's going on behind the scenes and I can admit that all day. But we can see the product that is being put on the field.
I'll show him respect for being an upstanding guy, but no one should refrain from being critical because he loves the University, fans, and players. We should support coaches who win and move-on/wish-them-well when they don't.This man loves the University, and it's fans and players, let's show him the support that he deserves
I doubt anyone on here can coach better than Holbrook, but that is not our job. It is his. He is paid to win games, and that is not happening. He was handed an elite baseball program, and in year three, he probably won't make the NCAA tournament. This season is an epic failure thus far.
My job is to sell bait and do it efficiently enough to make it a viable business. I doubt anyone else on here can do what I do, but it is not their job. It is mine. I'm the one who is paid to do it, and I am expected to do it well.
If he became a Gamecock when he was hired why did it take him until THIS year to start raising his hand at the end of each game when the alma mater is played? The first two years he would not raise his hand....kind of shoots your theory in the butt that he became a Gamecock the day that he was hired...!!The minute Holbrook was hired,he became a Gamecock,so he deserves all of our support,it really is that simple punk!!
Well then you can't stand 97% of fans. That is why when there is a losing team the stands are mostly empty. Most fans hate to see their team lose and steadily get worse. That is sports. I held out for this guy as long as I could. Him being a better coach than anyone on this messageboard isn't saying much. He needs to be a better coach than the coach of the teams he is competing against, and that is usually not the case.I can't stand fair weather fans
If someone calls you Holbrook it's an insult......wow dude....you are playing both ends against the middle.EDITED: Seneca, keep the insults out.
Fairweather fans don't switch teams, those are "bandwagon" fans. Fairweather fans just lose interest when their team is bad which is what most fans do. It really annoys me when there are complaints about "fairweather" fans. No one is complained about all the fair weather fans that showed up for the Women's Basketball team this year that gave us the national leader in home attendance. Where were they all the other years? Complaining about "fairweather fans" just makes you a fan critic of the fairweather vareity.Fair weather fans are not here anymore. They have gone on to another team that is winning.

I suggest ya shut your mouth, because Holbrook didn't want too, doesn't mean he isn't a Gamecock!!If he became a Gamecock when he was hired why did it take him until THIS year to start raising his hand at the end of each game when the alma mater is played? Yes it does. Personally I wish he wouldn't do it because he is a Tarheel and not a Gamecock he knows it and everyone else does.I suggest ya shut your mouth, because Holbrook didn't want too, doesn't mean he isn't a Gamecock!!
I guess ya have all the answers, the point I am making,is it is one bad season that's all!!!!!!!!Well then you can't stand 97% of fans. Good for him. This season is not so-so.Tanner had a couple so so seasons
