If Clem played a full SEC schedule every year, they would not have an unblemished record at the end of the season, or at least not be as healthy as day one from playing weak ACC teams all season. You were quick to mention losing the NC in 2015 by an onside kick, but failed to mention the win in 2016 was on a pick play.
First, I didn't mention the pick play because it had already been mentioned in the post I was quoting. If it makes you feel better, Clemson won the national championship over Alabama with a pick or rub route.
Second, I really don't understand the argument that "playing an SEC schedule every year" would somehow beat Clemson up so bad that they couldn't win the SEC.
If Clemson played the SEC schedule of South Carolina in 2015, they would have played 3 ranked teams all season in UGA, LSU, and Florida. Clemson played 3 ranked teams during the regular season in Notre Dame, FSU, and North Carolina. Clemson then proceeded to play #4 Oklahome and #2 Alabama in the playoffs.
In 2016, South Carolina played 3 ranked teams in TAMU, Tennessee (LOL), and UF(LOL again) before playing #25 USF in a bowl. Clemson played ranked Louisville, FSU, and VT before playing #3 OSU and #1 Alabama in bowl games.
2017 saw USC play 1 ranked team all year in UGA. Clemson played a ranked Auburn, Louisville, VT, NC State, and Miami before playing #4 Alabama in a bowl.
All SOS numbers show Clemson's schedule to be more difficult each of these 3 years. It would seem to indicate that if Clemson had to play the South Carolina SEC schedule they would have actually been more well rested from playing a less difficult schedule.
