Wild claim about Cam Newton

The only person who mentioned race was YOU. How interesting and telling. For me, his best days are behind him. The shoulder injury killed his arm. No shame in that, just a fact of life. Your points regarding his inability to throw receivers open and anticipate was spot on. He was a reactive QB. His athleticism made him the Qb he was. When his body failed on him, and it happens to us all, he ceased to be QB1 grade. As for Ninkovich, I agree you don't throw the man under the bus after you cut him. They classy thing is to say, thank you for your service and move on. However, Ninkovich would be in a position to know whether he had difficulty in learning the play book and whether the back up had mastered it. He just should have kept that information to himself. It was classless and unnecessary. You don't treat anyone like that.
You know why? Because a lot of people that tend to be on here jump through hoops to not see it. If I was on here saying that Mac Jones won the QB job because he was white, I would invite all of you to jump on me and call BS all day. He deserved the job. However, some of the stuff that has been said about Cam on the way out has been racial BS and I try hard not to make a race based claim on here just because I know how much it upsets people. I only make it as a measure of raising my hand and saying, look, you are getting out of hand a little bit. This not knowing the playbook and reading defense BS only comes up with Black players. I invite you to critically discuss it if I am wrong. Try this. Name 10 White QBs that have played poorly that can't read defenses or you have heard can't read defenses. Do the exercise, then you will see that the Ninkovich shot was unnecessary.

this is totally dumb trying to make something racist when it isn’t. You think Russell Wilson or Pat Mahomes have ever been accused of not knowing the playbook? Or Deshaun Watson or Lamar Jackson? Randall Cunningham? Warren Moon? It’s not a racism problem, it’s a Cam problem. Anybody who ever watched more than 3 Panthers games knows that while he was a world class athlete, he was not an elite NFL Qb. His accuracy has always been atrocious and he abandons pass plays for a QB run way too often. So either he’s playing “me me me, look at me run”, or he doesn’t know the plays well enough to check down through the receivers before abandoning the play. It’s a total legit knock against him. His career is about over because he’s racked up so many injuries due to his refusal or inability to evolve as an NFL QB. That’s not racism, that’s Cam. He had onegreat season. There are PLENTY of white QBs who’ve been cycled out for an inability to evolve too, so it’s not like he’s the first, he just got a much longer leash because of that one really great season.
Randall Cunningham? That accusation was made a lot. Lamar Jackson? Yes, people are saying the same things about Lamar Jackson as with Cam. I guess you haven't heard the "NFL has figured out Lamar Jackson" comments that have been going around lately. They wouldn't even let Warren Moon play QB until he was like 30 years old. So, to bring him up in your argument is sort of comical. The not reading defense stereotype is why they wouldn't let him play. He had to go to Canada and repeatedly prove that he could play. The "Reading Defense Stereotype" is a lazy concept anyway that attempts to make football more complicated than it is.

Don't know that I can name 10 but Ryan Leaf was a dumbass that couldn't learn the playbook. Terry Bradshaw was another who lost his starting position until they simplified the playbook for him.

My point exactly. You practically scanned the history of football and can only come up with two. Further, people only say it in a comical way with Terry Bradshaw and don't kill him about it. This only comes up with Black QBs and many times intelligent Black men that don't deserve it. Rush, God bless the deceased, even tried this BS with Donovan McNabb and McNabb is a borderline Hall of Fame level QB.

I thought the "figured out Lamar" comments were about his style of play, which to me has nothing to do with reading a playbook.

But I suppose to cry racist every 5 minutes we need to do a little mental gymnastics every now and then.

Practically scanned the history of football? Sorry my friend, that was 2 off the top of my head. It would be quite the assignment to scan the entire history of football to reply to a fan forum. If it makes you feel better, and you're giving me the sense it would, I'll point out that Bradshaw lost his job to Joe Gilliam, a black man. And I never got the animosity about race anyway. All of us have more in common than we have differences. We want what's best for our children, we want our streets to be safe, we want the opportunity to succeed to the best of our gifts and abilities that God gave us. God is God of all, not just certain races. Look at earth from space. We're all in this same little boat together. Race hatred has to be taught. It's not natural.

Agreed completely. About the racism dead horse and Cam's issues.

Also agree it seems a cheap shot to call out the guy on his way out the door, and I wouldn't have done it.

I do wonder if this guy was trying to justify things to people who were whining about vaccines or some other reason for cam being let go.

No one on here suggested it was due to race until you did, which is a continued pattern with you. The general comment is that Cam's body is used up. You try hard not to make a race based claim? Go back and read your posts. Most will include some reference to race. No one on here has knowledge as to whether he could or could not learn the playbook. Only those with the team can say for sure. Let me reiterate my prior statement to you and put it in terms you will understand. The white coach was classless in making disparaging comments about his black former quarterback. It was unwarranted especially since the black quarterback was a member of the white owned team the previous year. See how stupid that is when you bring race into it? Doesn't this read better....The coach was classless in making disparaging remarks about his former quarterback. It was unwarranted especially since the Qb was a member of the team the previous year. You can read race into anything you want to, even if it isn't there. In the case of the coaches comments, classless as they were, race was not mentioned. Give the imagined race stuff a rest. We have plenty of real issues to be addressed without injecting things where none exist.

Do you know why I do that? I do it to get you to see the little things that are done that cause racial discord. I am probably am the only one now because some of the other guys that would raise their hand and say things have been run off. I am an old school guy that began school in the first year of integration. So, there is nothing that can be done that I have not seen or heard. Doesn't bother me. You may disagree with me. However, the hope is that you will get the method to the responses I make on this board. I already know that you will probably not like it. I already know several will come at me hard. Some have even gone to the lengths of calling me a bigot and I have been called the "N" word on here several times to try to intimidate me I guess. Mods will at least ban the guys that try this now. However, if you look at my profile and see how long I have been on here, you will find that I am going to call "balls and strikes" how I see them and don't care who dislikes it. Finally, you don't have to mention race for it to be present. If it will make you more comfortable, I will say that Ninkovich was racially unaware even though I highly doubt that. With the racial stereotype of the Black QB being unable to learn, most reasonable people would have to know how this would land with a Black person. You may give Ninkovich the benefit of the doubt on that, but I don't see Ninkovich as a person that would be that oblivious. I see it as a shot that guy's take and when someone calls him out on it, hides their hands and say that is not what was intended. I am old school guy when it comes to race. I have heard it all and been through it all. It is rare when you can fool me.

And I don't necessarily think that running off guys who foment racial discord is a bad thing.

Ill say an extra prayer for you that your heart heals. Sounds hokie, but I will.

need links where any of those people have been accused of not knowing the playbook. Otherwise, stop making stuff up. The “NFL has figured ______ out” is a blanket statement that has been said about MANY players and coaches of all races. The fact is that Cam has been a less than great NFL QB who had one great year and got a lot of second chances because of that one great year. Never in his career has he evolved as a passer, that’s a fact. If literally your only strength as a QB is as a runner, you can’t run forever, eventually age/injuries catch up with you.

Cam's explanation:

"The reason they released me is because, indirectly, I was going to be a distraction without being the starter," the one-time NFL MVP said. "Just my aura. … That’s my gift and my curse. When you bring a Cam Newton to your facility, when you bring a Cam Newton to your franchise, people are interested."

"Let me be honest with you. If they would’ve asked me would I play behind they say, ‘Cam, we gonna give the team to Mac. … You’re gonna be the second stringer. We expect you to be everything and some to guide him throughout this tenure,’ I woulda said absolutely.

"The truth of the matter is this, he woulda been uncomfortable."

Newton did credit Jones for winning the job, saying the rookie proved to be "productive."

You are being disingenous. You can type in "NFL figured out Lamar Jackson" and get hundreds of links. You just want to be contrary. So, why should I patronize you there. You don't see because you don't want to see in Lamar Jackson's case just like you don't want to see the issue with what Ninkovich said. You have the right to your opinion concerning Cam Newton. However, you don't set a record for rookie passing yards in the NFL by just being able to run. You have to right to your opinion that Cam only a had a season or two of good play. However, when you go at him about not knowing the playbook when Bill Belichick was saying he was the starter just 10 days ago, now you are taking too far. At that point, people have the right to call you out about your intentions.

You don't solve a problem by avoiding it. One problem I see with Black people is they hold their heads down and tend to avoid confrontation. That is why when things are said they may have crossed the line, people don't know. There have been many times in situations people have come to me with issues they had with what someone said. My first question was, did you tell them you had a problem. When they said know. I said, "How can you blame them for crossing a line with you if they don't know.

Good lord, man. The Heart heals trick. I have 54 years old and could care less about the issue frankly. However, you have to know that what Ninkovich said was out of bounds. If you don't, you have no sense of history about our racial history and about the history of Black people trying to play the QB position. You don't solve a problem by avoiding it. as I said “figuring ________ out” has been said forever, you act like Lamar Jackson is the only player that’s been said about. That has nothing to do whatsoever with him knowing the playbook. So if somebody says “the NFL has figured out Tampa’s defense” and the defense consists of 3 white guys and 8 black guys, does that only count as 8/11th racist or is it still wholly racist?

These two statements don't seem to add up to me. At 54, you were going to school in 1973 ish. And that was the first year of integration? I looked on Wikipedia and it said integration started in the 50s.

And yes, the "heart heals" prayer. You really seem like you need it. Lots of hate for someone who says they could care less.

Okay, that was funny.

well, it’s like when Dale Earnhardt got mad that Darrell Waltrip said he couldn’t read and Waltrip responded “you mad I said it, or you mad that you can’t read?” How can something be “racist” if it’s true? I have no idea if Cam fully knows and understands the playbook or not. I do know though that I watched his entire career with the Panthers and he was very prone to not checking down and taking off running too early. That, to me, indicates that there is at least SOME truth to him not fully knowing the playbook, ie not knowing the routes that every receiver is running.

No one is crying racism. I am saying Ninkovich took an unnecessary racist shot which is his prerogative. Why is it so important for some to disprove every measure of racism? I said Jones earned the job. For Ninkovich to go at the playbook stuff was out of bounds. Black people deal with this all the time. I have dealt with it in my profession. I went years refusing to ask a white person questions I may have needed answers on because in my mind I said, "I am not going to let him think he is smarter than me". So, to mention this is no personal indictment on White people. It is to call out when you think something is out of bounds, so we can all get better.

My point is Ninkovich is not in the QB room either. For him to say that is irresponsible at the very the least and has some type of intent involved. Whether it be that he doesn't like Cam personally or something else that I mentioned. It is something there that doesn't sit right.

Mac Jones won the QB competition and Ninkovich's unnecessary shot, as Cam has already left the building, wreaks of troubling racial stereotypes. Cam was a starting QB for 10 years in the NFL whether you like him or not, whether you like his hair style and clothing or not, whether you think he is Scam Newton for Auburn beating us twice when you think he should have been ineligible. You don't start in the NFL for 10 years and get to be an MVP in the league without the ability to learn a playbook. Sure the two may have discussed concepts, but I highly doubt Ninkovich's claims are true to the degree that he is claiming. Finally, Mac Jones winning the QB competition shouldn't be seen as any indictment on Cam's play this summer. Cam played well. Mac Jones just matched or exceeded Cam's play, and you go with the young guy when that happens. I would take the version of Cam I saw this summer back with the Panthers in a second over Sam Darnold especially if they could get him cheap.
I absolutely knew this poster would play the race card. It's embedded in the liberal mind that EVERYTHING is race related, so typical.

Well, you did just create a statistic out of thin air to help justify you creating a race issue out of this.

I don't want you to "shut up", I want you to stop actively looking for racism where there is none. There's enough in the world without making up more.

Maybe I'm not the one that needs to move on.

(1) Ninkovich played 4 seasons in the P5 and 11 seasons in the NFL. So it’s fair to guess that no matter what position group he was in, he probably knows more than you, I, or 99.5% of the population will ever know about football.

(2) he’s now an analyst/journalist, they literally get paid to come up with controversial talking points. And sorry, but there’s very likely to be some element of truth to what he said.

you brought up how could Cam possibly not know the playbook If Belichik said he was the starter up to 10 days ago. How I’d say that happened…it took that long to realize they were confident enough in Jones to say irrevocably that he’s the starter. At that point, it likely became “is it really worth Cam’s very large salary to keep him around as a backup?” Then you can throw in all the side stories like Cam refusing to get the COVID vax etc. end of story as far as I’m concerned, nothing “racist” about it. You would THINK that a guy with 11 years as a starter and still technically “In his prime” wild not lose out to a rookie. But I think there’s some truth to the insinuation that Cam didn’t fully get the playbook, and they don’t consider Belichik the greatest coach ever for nothing….he knew what he wanted and Mac Jones was closer to it than Cam

so now you’ve appointed yourself spokesman of black people? Offended on their behalf? That in itself seems racist to me. Especially considering I haven’t heard any black people, including Cam himself, calling Ninkovich’s comments racist

Regarding the QB situation in Houston, I think pretty much everybody would choose Cam Newton over Tyrod Taylor, but alas, we don’t know who fits the offense better or who is the quickest learner, so I’ll be very interested to hear adcock’s thoughts if Cam- a black QB- isn’t signed to replace Tyrod Taylor- a black QB- to fill in for the disgruntled and legally challenged Deshaun Watson- a black QB. Can we still scream 3 degrees of “racism” if there are no white people involved?

Only if they are Republican!!

I went years refusing to ask a white person questions I may have needed answers on because in my mind I said, "I am not going to let him think he is smarter than me".
This is all the indication one needs to see your mindset. If I have a question for someone who might have the answer, my thought is that maybe they have knowledge or experience I haven't been exposed to yet. Never would it cross my mind to think they would think they were smarter than I. If you begin a new job and you have to attend training, do you think that person is smarter than you? In this particular area they may have a larger knowledge base or more experience but smarter? No. I have had supervisors who were dumber than a box of rocks generally but knew the task forward and backward. You see racism because you look for any opportunity to be offended and cry racist at every chance you get. You are not a bad guy and a good bit of your posts are thoughtful. Just quit looking for racism where it does not exist.

Are you kidding me? That is entirely possible. Several months back, when you had that rash of Asian people getting attacked, mostly by black people, there were people blaming it on "white supremacy." Some people were so deranged and racist themselves, that they could see a video of a black man beating up an Asian person, and call it "white supremacy." So, yeah, a cracker doesn't have to be involved in order to scream white racism.

they say Larry Elder is a Racist White Supremacist.. (he is Black and will be the next Governor of Calif if that white diude is recalled)

Is this story surprising to anyone? The bright-eyed rookie stayed up every night learning the playbook, and the 10-year vet who really didn’t want to be there (but was ready to collect a check if someone wanted to give him one), didn’t? Cam this last season and change reminds me of Jay Cutler going to Miami for a year.

And I was never a fan of his, but he’s a good QB (not just an athletic one). He was a career 60% passer and never threw more INTs than TDs in a season until his last two years (which covered a grand total of 10 games). Add in his running element and for at least one season he was the best football player IN THE WORLD (something no one thinks Mac Jones will ever achieve).

Fun Fact on a complete tangent - did anyone realize that Joe Namath threw more INTs than TDs in 11 of his 13 seasons (some seasons shortened for injury)?

I "kinda" agree with GOOD, but his 60% accuracy was do to him being able to "Thread needles" and throw so hard, he beat defenders to the reciever.. I watched his Whole career at Carolina and he would lock on one guy, he could throw it to that one guy, like the proverbial noone's business.
