Yeah, college football is done

That Miami booster absolutely gets it. If you don’t have your machine getting NIL compliant stipends to every scholarship player you might as well give up the sport. It also happens to be a relatively equitable way to do it rather than (or likely in addition to) money filtering only to the big name players.

Meh. This type of dealing will be short lived. Things will calm down when businesses get tired of wasting money. This will end up being a good thing for all of college Athletics.
You are wrong. Nike never tires of wasting money. What Miami is doing is a drop in the water barrel of what Oregon is doing. You are going to be seeing six figure deals soon.

I’d be shocked, and upset, if we aren’t getting more than $500 per month to each player in the near future. It’s now basically Go Fund Me for players, plus however many hoops the NCAA, states, and/or Congress want to make boosters jump through. And if you want to be 100% safe, just run whatever scheme the blue bloods do and NCAA won’t touch it.

Nike makes money - not sure what they’re wasting.

The vast majority of professional players don’t have six figure marketing deals. That’s guys in the league for years. And as more of these deals come through on the college level, the market will become saturated really fast. Watch all the advertisements out there - how many are athlete endorsements? Now add in a couple thousand more that aren’t even pros but that could have some bearing on the market. At the end of the day businesses will have to make business decisions. And the ROI on a college endorser isn’t that great if you blow too much cash on it (and in that Miami deal, about 65 of those kids are guaranteed negative ROI kids).

The previous version is done. The winners probably won't be much different. It will be interesting to see what rules are put into place if it can be curtailed. If this is the result, so be it. Players shouldn't be arbitrarily cut out. This is as important as some of these kids will feel ever in their lives.

When you pay labor 30 cents an hour you can waste a ton and still be profitable like Nike does. I don't wear their stuff because i don't like the fit. I prefer New Balance

I would think your biggest media markets with the big business money are going to explode! Not sure california, texas, ohio, florida schools explode, but some of your podunk schools might feel a ding! I hope

Does anyone really believe this is going to turn anything around for Miami?

I don’t believe he’s going to actually do it. He’s going to get more publicity from saying he’s doing it than if all those kids tweeted about his gym everyday for the next year.

Have read several legal cases and investigations in to Nike and their use of slave labor. Nike actually testified that they aren’t a shoe company. They don’t make anything, only a lifestyle brand. Technically Nike can make this argument because they outsource manufacturing.

Nike takes no responsibility for their supply chain, they actually revel in their exploitation of slave labor. Disgusting.

Won’t hear any of the Nike athletes talk about these injustices. Ironic.

For 1 maybe two players on each team- sure. For the whole team? 😂😂 Hell no. Not any time soon/ in our lifetimes. Anybody who thinks the average players making a couple grand a year (which is what most will make at best) will have an impactful change on the game does not understand the value of money. We have seen this play out already- have a big name (Master P’s son for instance), get big money. Average player without a big name? Get p-nuts. This is how it will be and how the free market works. It will not end the game or even hurt it nearly as bad as the doom and gloomers predict.

Lambert is an attention whore. If it gets him in the locker room where he can have guys tell him how amazing he is he’ll do it for at least a season.

Experts predict the Manning kid who's still a sophomore in highschool will make 10 million plus his freshman year in college wherever he decides to play.

Then why play college football and get hurt by someone who didn't that much NIL money? Just go straight to the pro's?

That’s exactly the situation that should be available to him (and any super famous prep star entering college). It won’t matter where he goes, he’ll get national campaigns. And there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s actually kind of weird to have kept famous kids and kids with a viable talent off the field from making a buck. I remember way back when a very good Northwestern RB couldn’t take a part in a movie (when he was a theater major!).

I’m still not a fan of schools paying players a salary, but NIL should have been an easy concession by the NCAA a long time ago.

Being a doom and gloomer myself, I will respectfully disagree. You know what they always say, "money talks and BS walks".
