Yeah, college football is done

Everything going on after NIL started
was being done under the table to a lesser extent anyways. Now it is just out in the open. Since it is all legal now it has exploded. The sad part is we weren't better at it. RT and the rest could mess up a ham sandwich so I guess I should not have raised expectations.

This is usually done by the boosters. Seriously doubt any AD's have actual knowledge of it and, if they do, are even less likely to be involved in it. Frankly, we don't have the booster that are willing to do it. I wouldn't....and if we start, the university, not the athletic department, will get more of my money.

Here’s my best twist on this and I love it. These kids could uproot the Nike “slavery” platform that Nikes made billions on. Why sell ur name and life to nike for a payout. own the company and with all these NIL deals theyll have the capital not to be held hostage to Nike. when your the players that people want to emulate. Get a bunch of players and start your own brand…….with social media.

Been tried. Lead by a moron. Failed miserably.

BigBallerBrand

Does it mean that it can't be done? Nope.

But, certainly will be much tougher than just taking those big checks from Nike.

I agree with you, but I think ADs are more wilfully blind than unknowing.

College football is going to end being like a restaurant experience I had recently.

Had the opportunity to go back and visit a restaurant my family and I went to a few times when I was kid, 35+ years ago. I LOVED it as a kid and had these fantastic memories of it. When I showed up, the place had not been maintained well, the food was not nearly as good as it used to be and the overall experience was just lacking. They used to have great servers. Now it was disinterested teens. Externally, I kept up the "it's just how I remember it" act but internally I was thinking "this sucks. nothing at all like what it used to be."

Fans will just have to pretend college football is the game we've always loved. Internally, we'll know it's no.

All I see is a great opportunity to take what has been a bottom feeder program with a passionate fan base and leverage this into a way to attract better talent. If we don’t take advantage of it and instead just complain about it ruining amateur athletics then we deserve to remain where we are.

College football sucks. Most of the games are unwatchable and there are only 5 teams that have a legit shot at winning it all.

I don’t see how NIL makes the situation any worse. Worst case scenario is things stay status quo.

I really do feel it will help spread out the talent. College football is bad because The top 4-5 teams are getting all the talent. I don’t feel it has always been like that but maybe it has and I’m getting old and can’t remember

that’s my thought as well. worst case scenario is that we continue to suck and the same 5 teams compete for titles. That is what wil happen under the current set up so why not try something different.

I too think that there used to be more competition and better play in years past. College football wasn’t aways this bad of a sport.

There's probably no money in it for them now that they would have to pay the players.
In an interview EA was quoted as offering to pay the players, but the NCAA stepped in and said no. Lol. Funny, that was the catalyst that led to the mess the NCAA is in now.

On the bright side does this mean they will make a new NCAA football game?

It will be released in 2024 with a 4 year proposed contract. That was ea sports last release. Up in the air if it will include actual players because the game was already planned before nil. Their statement said they are monitoring that possibility but right now want to concentrate on give an authentic image of college football in the up coming game. So far 100 institutes have signed on to be in the game.

Because the last game was almost 10 years ago the game will basically have to be built from scratch including all the game day traditions and such.

They dont pay rent
That is not my point… I am relating the money being paid to a real world expense most can correlate to their own lives to drive home how nominal the amount is. I understand housing is usually provided by the school but $500/month is not life changing money for anyone in today’s economy.

All those who think this is a great thing.....pony up! Start an LLC, raise money, get advertising and promotional partners and start giving NIL contracts to players. Don't expect others to do it for you.

Yea, most of those kids already get a Pell Grant of up to $6,400 a year in “free money” already - so they’re not going to be blown away by another $6,000.

And though another $6,000 would be nice, once they hit a certain income threshold the Pell Grant goes away. So they have to be careful with what they take to make sure it’s going to make up for the loss of that Pell Grant money.

I think it is a great thing… For the players! I have never said I am opening my wallet to throw money at them or investing my time and energy to make money for them. If others want to do that- cool! Go for it… I have a job already and a life to live outside of it. None of this affects me as a fan of the game- my excitement level has not been impacted for college sports one bit. I wasn’t paying players before illegally and I won’t be doing it now either. I just don’t get the negative backlash it has gotten from so many. YOU are the one who can ruin CFB for YOU. The games will go on, SC is going to field a team and each fan gets to chose if they give a rip or not, just like it has always been. It is a good system…

Maybe. We will see.

This has the potential to be a Pandora's Box of problems.

No reason to make up problems that do not exist yet though. That type of thinking keeps us from evolving. The rules will continue to change, money will be made and sports will be played. I am more optimistic about Gamecocks FB than I have been in years!

Not really. There will be other teams offering much more. Doubt one of those teams will be us.

Not sure how any Gamecock with a triple digit IQ could think this is good for us.
It won't be us; we're in one of the poorest states and there isn't even a single Fortune 500 company based in SC. Our wealthiest donor, McNair; when he was alive, really didn't donate much to athletics. The only USC sport that will probably do well with NIL, is WBB, since we have a large and loyal fan base.
