Some statistical notes from the game after watching it back:

I think South Carolina has played mostly night games when playing in Strakville, but how many times has Mississippi State played a night game at Williams Brice? Maybe 1998?

I am definitely not one to see rainbows and unicorns, but this was one game!! A really bad effort by every player except maybe Leggette and Rattler. But just think back, a dropped (perfectly thrown pass) on 4 th down after the insides kick, and they go down and take the lead in the third. Then it all went to HELL!! Their QB is really good. He was on target all night. Let’s hope they regroup and start playing football. Until a couple more losses I will withhold judgement

COLUMBIA, S.C. (September 11, 2023) – University of South Carolina senior quarterback Spencer Rattler has been named the SEC’s Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the Gamecocks’ 47-21 win over Furman on Saturday night, the league office announced today.

Rattler, a 6-1, 217-pounder from Phoenix, Ariz., completed 25-of-27 passes (92.6 pct.) for 345 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for a fourth TD in the Gamecocks’ 47-21 win over Furman, the sixth-ranked team in the FCS. Rattler completed his first 15 passes in the contest and had TD passes of 36, 7 and 42 yards against the Paladins. He was at his best at the end of the first half when he led Carolina on a three-play, 75-yard scoring drive in 20 seconds with no timeouts, leaving just three seconds on the clock.

Rattler and the Gamecocks (1-1, 0-0 SEC) will travel to Athens, Ga., this week for a date with the top-ranked and two-time defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs (2-0, 0-0 SEC). The 3:30 pm ET SEC opener will be televised nationally on CBS with Brad Nessler and Gary Danielson in the booth and Jenny Dell on the sidelines. JP Shadrick and Derek Rackley will have the national radio call on Westwood One.

Caveat: Those tested, were requested by family members due to erratic behavior prior to death.

It’s a long way to signing day but this is a great look and start for Gamecocks.

Can’t under estimate the impact Dante Reno had on recruiting. The kid signed early and then went after linemen and receivers. This new QB commit has the same opportunity.

Btw. I’m not sure Dante even sees much time at USC I hope I’m wrong because I like the kid but the Sellers kid may be best QB in the SEC next 2-3 years - I’m thinking he gets playing time this year.

After two weeks, how are we feeling? Any changes to your original predictions? A&M doesn't look great. Horrible defense. Both Kentucky and Missouri struggled against their cupcake. It's incredibly unlikely we beat Georgia and more than likely we won't beat Tennessee. But after that, all those games are winnable.
