Braves 🆚 Mets 7/01/21 (da da da grom, da da da grom) Beethoven 5th

Welcome to another edition of Gamecock Central Braves Baseball ⚾️ Chat. I am your host @Pfunk Cock along with a plethora of regular participants in the chat.

Yes it is Pfunk 1st assisted by Ludwig MC da da da Grom pitches for the Mets tonight and his appearances on the mound has been a concert 🎶 of sorts as he Hums his fastballs to the limits of physics 💯 MPH without breaking a sweat and then he break off a spinner to buckle the knees if many a batter. The tales have been written, children all over New York want to wear his number and even housewives want to date him. He is a God to the Braves Haters Club and worshipped every five days (except on IL visits). Should the Braves shutter at the thought of facing that wickedness ? I have the utmost respect for the legendary 9th Wonder of the World 🌎 but will not hold him in reverence. The Braves will counter with a young Phenomenon who has no fear. He is calm as a summer breeze on a lazy night. He is the Oasis in the desert and the David to the Mets Goliath. Yes our Young David is carrying a slingshot of an arm and he plans to slay the giant. All Hail Young Ian Anderson 😎😎.

Now that I have adequately wet your whistles let’s get down to business. The Braves will have to keep the score low and the defense tightened. There may not be many opportunities to score and they will need to capitalize on those moments and not wear out the LOB category of the box score.

Del Wilkes RIP

Del Wilkes, former Gamecocks football star and pro wrestler, dies at 59

Former pro wrestling star and University of South Carolina football All-American Del Wilkes passed away early July 1 at the age of 59 of a massive heart attack.

One of only four consensus All-American football players in program history (along with George Rogers, Melvin Ingram and Jadeveon Clowney), Wilkes bolstered an offensive line that in 1984 helped set school records for touchdowns (49), points (371) and total offense (5,095 yards).

Heavily recruited as an offensive lineman at Columbia’s Irmo High School, Wilkes was USC’s most decorated player in 1984 when the Gamecocks finished 10-2.

Wilkes broke into the wrestling business in 1988 following a failed attempt in the NFL. The Columbia native found a wrestling school not far from his home.

The facility was run by legendary women’s wrestling star The Fabulous Moolah (Lillian Ellison), who had been responsible for training the majority of women wrestlers during the ’60s and ’70s.

“It was geared more toward women than it was guys,” said Wilkes. “But we paid our money and went through the school and basically started out at the very bottom level of pro wrestling.”

As The Patriot, he became a top international star, especially in Japan, where fans marked out for his sculpted physique and colorful mask.

Wilkes retired from the wrestling business in the late 1990s due to a triceps injury.

Wilkes had worked for the past 16 years as a car salesman in Columbia.

“Del Wilkes would become a name that those in college football knew quite well. He would make his name familiar in the world of pro wrestling as well. However, regardless of the accolades or fame he may have achieved, to me, he was best known as a friend. Del overcame his struggles in this life and became an inspiration to many. Our loss is Heaven’s gain,” said Clearwater Beach, Fla.-based pastor Andy McDaniel, who hosted a podcast with Wilkes.

What's the peach crop like there this year?

How's the peach crop down there this year? It looks like this will be the first year in a while that I'll go the whole summer without any SC peaches. It has happened in most years recently that I was down in SC for peach season or some family from down that way was traveling up here and they were able to buy me some. Doesn't look to be the case this year. I looked into delivery. The only place I can find online that does deliver is McBee Farms in Mcleod. Anyone know anything about this farm? A box of 14 is $48.

There's a bigger company called The Peach Truck that ships peaches, but they are from farms throughout the south. Granted, ANY southern peach will be 1000x better than what I can get in the grocery stores up here, but I'm a peach snob and prefer to stick to SC peaches.

O/T- LAPD blows up their own truck...

LAPD were called to a house where someone was storing fireworks and found other explosive devices... they confiscated and put 10 lbs of explosives in their bomb truck that supposedly will handle 18 lbs. It didn"t go well:

For you George Strait fans out there ......

see the link to his "50 Number 1's" albumn / DVD / CD that dates back 20 yrs or so.
This covers the ballads, the Texas 2 Steps stuff, the Honkey-Tonk stuff and everything in between.
I am a huge fan but you probably figured that out by now. I think this link will not just be the 1st song but also the other songs on that release.
