MBB vs. Texas Live Thread

Checking in from Colonial Life Arena, where it's going to be a late tip and it's also getting very late for South Carolina men's basketball. Gamecocks are down to just five chances left to get a conference win, and two of those games are going to be on the road against top-15 opponents. Tonight looks like one of the more winnable opportunities left, with a vulnerable Texas squad coming in. Critical game for the Horns and their bubble hopes, but there's a reason tehy're on the bubble to begin with.

8:30 tip on SEC Network. updates to follow.

Back at Colonial Life Arena for the penultimate home game of the regular season for South Carolina women's basketball. Gamecocks trying to bounce back from the UConn debacle tonight, and on paper this should be the perfect get right opponent. Gamecocks host the Razorbacks, who come in dead last in the SEC standings at 9-18 overall and 2-10 in the league.

Everyone is present and warming up. It's a 7:00 first pitch on SEC Network. Updates to follow.

Baseball vs. Queens Live Thread

Hello from Founders Park. It's about as cold as I've ever had it here. My phone says 38 degrees and rain, but they just pulled the tarp off the field as the rain has settled into something of a drizzle. The other ball teams

The baseball team has started out 3-0. The Softball team is 10-0.
I heard some people complain about these coaches being hired. People questioning Ray Tanner.

Seems like both new coaches have put together a couple good teams.

I know they both brought in some really good players from the Portal. And they both talked about turning these into winning programs. Well they sure have started right.

Baseball results, they may not mean a lot to some, but Sacred Heart had a very good team last season. The end of this month they get to take on Clemson. I hope they are 9-0 then and end up 12-0. Then we will know how good this team may be.

Softball results, they were able to beat some decent teams. They had six shutouts and six run-rule victories. Nine times this season Carolina has scored five or more runs. Through the first two weeks they are outscoring their opponents 81-13. They play UNC this afternoon.

Maybe Ray Tanner knew what he was doing when he hired them.

Not just NIL anymore

This last 3 or so years everyone has been trying to figure out NIL. Who makes how much? Who is paying?
Well, it was all about donations from both companies and individuals. No one really knows who got what

All of that has now changed.
Starting this year, the university will actually be paying players. They say it will cost them about $20 million, but no word on how much each player will get. And the "better" players will still have NIL added to that stipend.
So many questions we will never know because of privacy law.
Sadly, I now know how SC plans to come up with the $20 million. The fee for my season seats went up $200 ea. There are several other seats that cost a lot more than mine, so they probably have even higher fees. I suppose Baseball and Basketball all went up too.
I love amateur football and I especially love going to Gamecock football at Willy B. But thanks to college kids demanding to be paid like the pros, it is getting hard for my budget to keep up.
