- In-state athlete Kylic Horton became the latest of the recent “Welcome Home” commitment teases to go public with his pledge to the Gamecocks.
The Clarendon Hall product was originally planning on announcing his choice on July 4 (he, of course, had already informed the staff) but decided to move that timeline up as we alluded to on The Insiders Forum on Saturday night.
Horton camped at South Carolina on back to back days - the first two camp days of the summer - and turned in a showing that made the staff pull the trigger.
Playing 8 man ball, it can be tough to get a read based on the film on Horton due to him sometimes playing out of position, plus competition level. Watching him in camp, he still is raw and will need to refine his game.
Horton, however, has very good length, can add weight and strength, and put up outstanding testing numbers in the 40, vertical, and broad jump. He also shows natural ball skills and catch radius.
This is a prospect that will need time to develop, but the upside and potential is hard to ignore. This is the type of guy that - if he develops at the next level - people would look back and wonder how nobody found him.
South Carolina stepped in, and now he will have the chance to develop in Columbia. I would wager Horton gets his first look at wideout, but he could also play DB or OLB from a physical standpoint.
