UConn unfortunately prob needed this in the short term so their bench and also a few of their starters get more involved to make them deeper and more experienced. If PB comes back 100% or close later in the year they will be stronger for it. Some of those other players were getting lost in the PB show.

Man, I hope you're right. It is odd how the recruitment around her has been rather silent. I haven't found any recruiting service that lists schools that are possibilities for her. So that would seem to support your belief.
Dawn keeps recruiting really close to the vest so we often don't know until there's a public commitment.

Per ESPN: "The estimated recovery timeline would put Bueckers' return in mid- to late-January, ahead of UConn's rematch with No. 1 South Carolina."

All that matters here if no setbacks.

Looks like UConn going through it with injuries. Now their backup PG has an injured foot as well and likely will be out for a couple weeks. They can't seem to catch a break.

WOW hard to believe though the girl at Mizzou had a great game too. More motivation for Dawn & Co.
Yeah, Blackwell is tearing it up. But Good Lord they had Co-Players of the week..... why not make it a triple. I mean it’s not like Aliyah was named NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK.......
Oh wait..........

i

Player of the Week: Aliyah Boston, South Carolina Gamecocks

The junior had a combined 50 points, 31 rebounds and 7 blocked shots in Gamecocks victories over North Carolina A&T and Kansas State, and shot 22-of-24 from the field. For the season, Boston is shooting 61.3% from the field and 67% from 2-point range. Sure, North Carolina A&T was vastly overmatched, but Boston played just 21 minutes in that game. But Kansas State is 7-2 with one of the top centers in the country in Ayoka Lee, and Boston still dominated that game, playing 25 minutes

So I looked at data between Boston and the two co-SEC players of the week. The numbers aren't adding up for last week games.

Blackwell 27MPG/ 13-21 (36 pts) / 15.5 rebounds/ 1.5 AST/ 3.5 TO / .5 STL / 0 BLK

Coulibaly 38 MPG/ 19-28 (48 pts)/ 6.5 rebounds/ 1.5 AST/ 4.5 TO/ 3 STL /1.5 BLK

Boston 23 MPG/ 22-24 (50 pts)/ 15.5 rebounds/ 1.5 AST/ 0 TO/ 1 STL / 3.5 BLK

And it’s not like Rhyne Howard had a bad week either. I think the SEC Office said let’s give it to players who get no national attention

The Wildcats moved to 6-1 and got two strong performances from senior Rhyne Howard in dominant wins over West Virginia and Merrimack: She had a combined 48 points, 13 rebounds, 11 assists and 9 steals.

I don't know if you guys are aware of this kid yet. Saw her the other day on the tube. She's listed #58 in Super 60 rankings for the 2023 class.

If she slims down for D1 bb - she'll be a beast in college.

To be fair, Boston did miss two shots. 🤣

I hope her knees last. That’s a lot of pounding on her body. Good luck to her.

What makes us different from the other top ten teams?

Rebounding and D

On D we double team NOBODY!! Bueckers? No. Ayaoka Lee? No. Elissa Cunane? No. Sedona Prince? No. We won’t double Owusu or Reese this weekend.

Teams are use to their star being doubled or at least shaded by 1/2 a player. This opens up gaps and passing lanes, but not with us.

Want to pick and roll for mismatch? Well first we fight like hell to get over the pick. Secondly our bigs are great at hedging and pushing the ball handler away from the basket.

OK you set the perfect pick.(happens rarely) We are still comfortable with a straight switch. Our fundamentals: footwork, speed and positioning prevent easy shots more often than not.

Our rotations when caught out of position are quick and seamless.

Oh and we have shot blockers.

Rebounding we are just relentless. We rebound 45% of our own missed shots. EVERYBODY Rebounds.

When our top players are in, hardly anyone can score on us. Dawn has had some outstanding defenses here, but this year's may be the best. Once our offense comes around we will be unstoppable.

Yes, I completely agree with this. Not doubling is the foundation of our team. Fans can complain about the free throw shooting, the turnovers, the lack of outside shooting, etc and Dawn could recruit players that shoot 95% from the free throw line if she wanted to, but if they can't guard their position they won't see the floor. Period.

Playing man-to-man allows for a every shot to be contested. It's also pivotal in our success as a great rebounding team. Everyone is responsible for blocking out the player they are guarding. It forces the other team's best player to beat us herself. Last year Paige Bueckers scored 31 points against us. But at the end of the game, when you looked at the scoreboard, UCONN only scored 63 points in a game that went into overtime. WAY below their season average. We simply don't allow complementary players open shots.

We've already played two of the best offensive teams in the country, UCONN and NC State. Massey ranks Maryland #1 in offense, even without Diamond Miller (not sure if she'll be back for the game against us or not), so another good challenge for our defense. (Maryland, conversely, is ranked in the 100's on defense).

Last time I checked, we were 5th in the NCAA in field goal percentage. I believe Massey has us ranked 10th offensively. So our offense doesn't have far to come around.

👍👍👍

Maryland play Purdue last and put a second half beating on them. Miller did not play but Benzan and Masonius both played last night.
Benzan is one of the best 3 pt in college.

The thing that semi worries me is their size at all positions. Seems like everyone but Benzan is 6’ or better. A bit under sized at center.
Owusu is deceptively quick and her size may be problematic.

Texas just KILLED them defensively last year. Overplayed with Collier as shot blocker.

Hold them under 65 and we win

Maryland scoring seems to be pretty balanced overall. I think I saw that 5 or 6 players average in double figures. Much like we have a Big 3 in Boston/Henderson/Cooke, I feel like they have a Big 3 in Owusu/Reese/Benzan. If we can slow those 3 down, I think we're good.

They have no depth when it comes to guard play, they will likely have to play the full 40 minutes. If GT can get them in foul trouble, it could get ugly quickly.
Georgia Tech is pretty physical, which has been a problem for UCONN this season. Aaliyah Edwards had zero rebounds against Notre Dame in 22 minutes of play. Hard to believe. Their bigs need to step up.

Yep; Bueckers, Fudd, and Muhl are all out. Gonna be interesting how UCONN handles the guard play. I’ll be watching tonight.

Williams, Westbrook and Ducharme are it at guard. Not a true pg among them.
Ododa-Nelson, Edwards and Juhasz in the front court.

That’s it. Gabriel and McLean have 10 minutes of PT between them

I figured Edwards was going to be their dominant post player this year but it looks like she hasn't progressed much since last season. Ododa has had her moments but they will definitely need more. I think they have too much finesse as a team and it will likely be there downfall even before their injuries.

Yeah the posts minutes likely won't change much, those three you mention seem to trade minutes but that guard rotation will be a rough, especially for the Freshman like Ducharme.
