Anyone else see the sign at the SC-Kentucky game urging Calipari to leave and go to Texas?

And those blue blood tight azzez escorted him out. One and dones which he both wines about and uses have done him in. Same thing happening with other blue blood programs.

Sorry, I should have led with ‘Congrats to the team and coaches’..

Cal lost the fan base when the players took a knee during the national anthem a couple years ago. I hope he goes to Texas also.

Not at all true. He lost the fan base when they couldn't make the Final Four any more in spite signing the number one class multiple years. He could never manage to put together a cohesive class with chemistry. He bought into the one and dones and it has not worked out. Had he won 2 championships, no one would mention kneeling.

Unless he gets a generational big man, they usually dont get very far in the post season. Multiyear development is not his forte.

Who would they go out and try to hire to replace Calipari? Chris Beard is available...

Not buying this. Our ladies didn't stand for the National Anthem and all you get is a few fans taking shots at Dawn Staley whenever we lose. Difference is two recent National Championships.

Cal messed up big a few years back when he said (in response to losing in the tournament again) he was there to get players ready for the pros, and winning titles was a secondary goal. That did it.

Beard is a good coach. When the courts clear him, and they will because his
girlfriend has retracted all charges, somebody will quickly hire him. If Larry Eustachy can get another job, anybody can. And then there is Pitino with a long list of improprieties.

That is what is so frustrating for Texas fans, we know Beard will succeed elsewhere a few years from now. Beard had Texas set up to be a power in basketball, now I doubt we ever will be.

He is a good coach - I expect Liberty to make a run for him. They can pay him what Texas was paying him and they have zero moral compass.

Pitino and Eustachy are bad examples though. Being a drunk and a womanizer isn’t near the same level as a woman beater. The only coach of any consequence I can remember that did that was Haywood - football coach from Western Kentucky that took the Pitt job (but never made it on campus because he hit his girl). He’s out of coaching now.

Of course beard is considered a top 10 coach - so things are different than an up and comer like Haywood was. It will be interesting to see.

If you win, about every sin will be forgiven by a fan base. If you don’t win, every impropriety in your life will be discovered and used against you. And then there was one coach (maybe Bum Phillips - sounds like him) who said: “No matter how many you win, there will come a time when they gonna want somebody else.”

I don't see him getting a top job like Kentucky right away though. Could you imagine the problems if Beard and his girlfriend get into it again? Been exposed to a lot of this in my line of work and the victim usually wants to recant when they realize the consequences of what they are accusing the other party of. She fumbled the bag and wasn't even married to the guy yet.

They had a weird stormy relationship where they had been engaged for like 8 years. She recanted when she realized how much money disappeared with her accusations. I think Beard goes somewhere smaller and is successful, then jumps back to the bigger programs. It just won't be Texas.

As for Calipari, it has to be his agent floating rumors of him to Texas. Texas won't want him with his NCAA violation history. They can buy some other good, squeaky clean coach.

Kentucky can’t get rid of Calipari since he has a lifetime contract unless they are willing to come up with crazy money. I wonder how many programs would be willing to pony up enough to get him with the attitude he has - he is never wrong, will not change, reacts poorly to criticism, says too much, is not known as a very good on-the-floor coach, etc..

He has plenty of money. Maybe he will do what Shaka Smart and Mike White did - when it starts getting hot and the honeymoon days are over - get out of there and go somewhere you will be appreciated. For a while.

Texas believes it too big to fail - and that’s why they’ve been failing since they fired Mack Brown and Rick Barnes. Texas thought they made those coaches, but it’s clearly the other way around.

You can’t just plug and play any coach at UT no matter how much they like to think that. Cal is exactly the kind of guy they need as he’ll win on the court and will have a super strong political game (much like Brown and Barnes) to navigate the Texas mafia.

Both Brown and Barnes were one time good coaches that had lost it by the time they were fired. Both were phoning it in, had lost their teams, and needed a new situation. Other than his problematic relationship with his girl friend, Beard was the perfect coach for Texas basketball. His loss is a disaster for us.

We don't use the term "mafia" as there are few Italians in Texas. We call the problem rich guys the "big cigars" that all want to run things and are clueless. Part of the problem over the years has been having a weak AD that doesn't run interference between coaches and big cigars. Now the big cigars like a weak AD they can run over. I think our new AD is doing a better job keeping them in line, plus some of the most notorious older ones have died. I prefer someone who doesn't have Calipari's baggage.

Buzz Williams, Jamie Dixon, Kelvin Sampson and Mark Adams are all good coaches. Texas needs a good hire to keep up.
