Ray Tanner is not a CEO type of AD. He's a baseball coach for crying out loud. I'm not even sure Tanner would fired WM. They will both have to be canned together.

Nobody wants to hear it, but Hugh Freeze is the way to go. He would come, he is a really good coach.
People who talk about Fleck and other guys doing well in middling programs just don’t get it. Why would any of those guys come here? This is a tough job.
This is a middling program, We are not consistently inside the top 25 of teams in the nation. We are in probably the second or 3rd toughest division in all of CFB.
We are probably 8-10 spots down on the list of Schools that we recruit against in our boarder states. We win some battles for recruits, but it is tough sledding. When Miami and Auburn move into the top 10, over half of the top 10 will be in boarder states (or very close) to SC. UF, Miami, UGA, CU, Aub, and Ala.
Most neutral observers are going to have UT, UF and UGA ahead of us as far as historically good programs with better resources and higher expectations.
Whoever comes here will have a challenge. They have to have a certain desperation / willingness to take on the odds attitude. It is totally why Will came, he didn’t have any other options.
Insert Hugh Freeze.
You either get dirty or you get run over. By the way we weren't that clean under Spurrier.Freeze ran a dirty program at Ole Miss. Why would we invite that here?
It’s sad to see comments like this. Why would we not demand excellence? I graduated Carolina in 2005, and consider the university a huge part of my life. My friends and fellow alumni are family to me. When Spurrier took over the motto was, “Why Not Us?”, because we had the resources and desire to win. That hasn’t changed.
President Caslen and the BOT need to start demanding the very best for our university and our athletic programs. Ray Tanner has been a big asset to the university, but he has mismanaged the hire of WM and added to his mistake with a contract extension. If he is unwilling to make the changes necessary, both positions need to be evaluated now.

But HOW is he an embarrassment? So far, all he's done is win. All you've done is talk about his looks. It isn't all about looks, but a head coach that is an embassment rarely succeeds.
He just got caught, you think Aub, Ala, UGA, TN run “clean” programs? So naive.
Well then, let’s hire people who are smart enough not to get caught and buy a burner phone to call escort agencies instead of using the University provided phone. He just got caught, you think Aub, Ala, UGA, TN run “clean” programs? So naive.

And has been pointed out, Napier has a very similar resume, arguably against lesser competition. Yet you seem to be OK with him because of who his mentor was (or some such thing) and he looks more the part, according to you.He hasn't won all that much against anyone that matters and there is little reason to believe that will translate to a school in the SEC. He has two seasons at UCF, you are basing your "all he has done is win" on way too small a sample size.
Here is Tanners list:You need two vacancy's to take place first before any changes are made...
Replace Tanner and then Muschamp.... I wouldn't want to hire a football coach without an experience AD in place and they can pick out his own head coach or bring in his own head coach.... You need a strong AD to bring in a very good coach....
AD's always has a list in their desk just in case his coach leaves, dies, retires or close to retirement...

Charlie Strong
Rich Rodriquez

Not necessarily...Same thing was said about Holtz...and Spurrier. They won because he had talent. Urban could not compete Clemsons and UGAs with a roster full of 3 stars. SC needs someone who can recruit, motivate and relate to players, unfortunately I think that person was Shawn Elliott. He wasn't given a fair shot because he inherited a complete dumpster fire and many didn't like him because he was too similar to Dabo.We also tried the young up-and-comer with Brad Scott.
If you want a guarantee to win, there's one name out there to get you that: Urban Meyer. Setting aside whatever we think about the man, he does one thing every single place he goes: win. Urban would get us an SEC title. Every other move is a gamble. Urban is a flat-out guarantee.
It seems as though you just have a personal vendetta against the guy. Reading through this thread. You don’t make any logical arguments against him.Do you really think Heupel has the commanding presence to be a head coach at a large state university? I just don't see it. I don't see anything that makes me go "wow that is an impressive guy." For all his offensive failures, Muschamp presents well and looks like someone you would want to follow into battle.

Why he was feeling around, blind when he heard Muss was AVAILABLE. That is why he got him.How in the world did Muschamp get on Tanner's radar? He was an unmitigated failure as a Head Coach at Florida. As I recall, his one-year stint as DC at Auburn was not impressive. What kind of DC was he at Texas? Was he a world-beater there?
Thank you.You can’t promote an interim coach who loses to The Citadel. Never going to happen.
Plus, Elliott isn’t even an elite coach in the Sunbelt. Appy’s last two coaches have gotten P5 jobs (Sattefriend and Drinkwitz) and now Napier looks to be the next coach from that conference to move up. Troy’s coach got the WVU job too.
Meanwhile Elliott stays at GSU and is just above average, never seriously in contention for a conference championship. Even Coastal may pass his program this year.
He did beat Tennessee last year, which was wonderful but he isn’t P5 head coaching material.
Well, McElwain took Muschamp's players at UF and won the East in his first year there. Those rosters were losing games, but they were LOADED with NFL talent.Napier was fired too. And he is not exactly coaching a football power at U-La-La. UCF is a better job by far. Heupel was also the runner-up to the Heisman as a QB in college at Oklahoma.
However, Heupel does not look like a guy who takes care of himself. He looks a little like "More Chins than Wins" Brad Scott. I think I'd pass on both of them and go after PJ Fleck hard. Maybe convince Tanner to retire and hire Coyle as AD to lure him down here. After that, I'd consider Shawn Elliott or make another run at Herman. The gloss of the Texas job has undoubtedly worn off by now. If Houston does well at ECU this year and next he should get a look.
Unless we've been sold a bill of goods on Champ's recruiting, whoever we hire is going to be just a few pieces short of a really good team. WR, RB and maybe safety and LB. The rest of it is there for the right coach.

I actually texted in to 107.5 The Game that if Tanner is in charge of hiring the next coach, we’d end up with Butch Jones or Charlie Strong. Here is Tanners list:

Assuming we did have a head coaching vacancy, who might you be interested in having lead us? Next time around, we have to try something that we have not done since Sparky Woods. A young up and coming head coach. We cannot go the coordinator route, nor should we go the elderly former legend. A handful of names are below:

The only thing Freeze has going for him is being a successful head coach no one seems to want at the time. (See Holtz and Spurrier). Religion should be no factor, (some of us might like it. ) But, it's not a qualification.
These days, chasing hookers might go either way, like the viral Muschamp video, done on University time and equipment. That does not seem to matter anymore.
The great thing about Christian schools is they understand there will be moral failings, but not Coaching failings. (See Notre Dame, Liberty). Here, we seem to have it backward. Forgive, and win.
So maybe Freeze is not such a bad idea...
You must go to a really fancy Bojangles.Someone told me if Alumni gave $4.00 each we could by him out. Cheaper than a Bojangles biscuit. It’s not going to happen either way, so we are wasting time talking about this coaching replacement.
I corrected it to a chicken biscuit combo. You understood my point anyway. There is no fancy Bojangles. I don’t eat there at all, Dr. would have a fit. That info was passed on to me by a colleague! You must go to a really fancy Bojangles.
He’ll have an NFL job next year making a lot more money. Here’s an outside the box hire.. Eric Bieniemy . He’s the real mastermind of the Kansas City dynasty in the making . He’s young , has years of experience working under a hall of fame head coach . He’s had a DUI convection many years ago but other that no major red flags . Very limited college and recruiting experience but I think the greatest recruiting tool is winning and winning excitingly . He can definitely do that . Thoughts ??
Religion isn't a factor, it is hypocrisy and false piety.
Obviously, there is no issue hiring a Christian coach in America. How many coaches of other faiths or no faith can you name?
I mentioned him last year. I think he would be great. But, he is in line for an NFL HC position. Here’s an outside the box hire.. Eric Bieniemy . I will say this....Heupel is an air raid guy. Played that as QB in college....he truly understands it. Go look at the biggest pass #s the Air Raid produces (OU won their natty in 2000 with it, Manziel, these recent OU QBs that have put up the huge numbers, and of course Mike Leach and what he's done offensively in his career). I'm typically a defense first guy....but d@mn man.....that isn't working. Go get Heupel, get former Northwestern HS HC Kyle Richardson as an assistant (languishing on Clemson's payroll as an asst AD type now instead of a coach) and bring some energy and people with something to prove. Bring a very close rep from Rock Hill for recruiting and absolutely hammer and own Rock Hill to greater Charlotte area. You don't have to go to CA to find talent. You just have to zero in and get the right talent from nearby. Richardson has the ability and connections to do that.I understand what you're saying. But Billy Napier is at an even smaller school. And I like him too. The fact is that any hire is a gamble, no matter what. The name of the game is WINNING, which Heupel has done a lot of as a Head Coach. Regardless, we have no opening at this time. But, if Muschamp does not begin winning soon, we might have one.
He’ll have an NFL job next year making a lot more money.
I have nothing against Religion... We should practice Hail Mary's every game and twice on Sundays....
All of his religious hokus pokus would be off putting to many.
Fleck is a nut case who dresses funny. He’s never coming toI agree that no one will be fired this year. It will be after the 2021 season before SC will make a change and it might be after the 2022 season just so we will have 2 years in the black to make up for 2020.
But, having said that, these are my favorites:
PJ Fleck
Josh Heupel
Billy Napier
Shawn Elliott
Neal Brown
Mike Houston
Will Healy
Shawn Elliott and Will Healy are the two most interesting guys on the list. Will Healy is young but only has experience at smaller schools. Could he handle a high profile job?
Shawn Elliott has big school experience and has done okay at Georgia State. He has not had a signature win yet. He did take Billy Napier's squad to OT last week but lost by a FG.
Mike Houston was the head coach at the Citadel in 2015 when they beat us in Columbia. He has won everywhere and is now HC at East Carolina. Last year they were 4-8, but he bears watching.
Neal Brown is the HC at West Virginia after previously coaching at Troy. While at Troy they beat LSU in Baton Rouge. Also one to watch.
PJ Fleck would be my first choice followed by Josh Heupel - although Heupel might have better recruiting ties to the SE. I'd be happy with either one.
Fleck signed an extension in November so he is not coming here. For people who think, "who would we get", I give you the long list of possible candidates
Fleck
Fickell
Satterfield
Huepel
Cristobal
Napier
Clark
Elliott
HM:
Healy
Houston
Littrell
A young up and comer would be a disaster. SC has to get a recognizable coach that has been a long time winner to be successful. Coaches who have been very successful, i.e. Spurrier/Holtz. History has proven that.Assuming we did have a head coaching vacancy, who might you be interested in having lead us? Next time around, we have to try something that we have not done since Sparky Woods. A young up and coming head coach. We cannot go the coordinator route, nor should we go the elderly former legend.
