Chat's recognition is a good thing:
Especially when we did not place one player on the first or second team ALL SEC (top 18 players). Nor did we place anyone on the ALL SEC Freshman team. (8 more) ALSO we did not place anyone on the All SEC Defensive team! (5 more) Thirty one players were honored in these All SEC awards...then there was Player of the year, Scholar Athlete of the year, Freshman of the year, Sixth Man of the year, and Defensive player of the year....still no mention of a single Gamecock.
So ALL SEC Community service is great...but a lot like getting Miss Congeniality in a beauty contest. Not too much to write back to Lithuania about.
So all year long we have kept asking why we are not performing better against these teams, why we can't shoot, why we lose leads at the end of games...the biggest answer is we do not have players who are as talented as the players we are playing against in the SEC...one all SEC player in ANY of the categories above would have made a difference for us this year. (In fact better performances from two-three players could have got them on the teams and helped us win more)
Kentucky had 4 players on the 1st and 2nd teams and 4 on the all freshman along with the Freshman of the year.
Texas AM had a player on first team (House who killed us) another on the 2nd team
Arkansas had Portis on 1st and Qualls on 2nd two players who grabbed the game here at Columbia by the short hairs in the final half and took it away from us. They also had Anton Beard who made all Freshman.
LSU had two players on the first team another on All Defensive team
Vandy had a player on the first team and two players on the all freshman team
Ole Miss had one on the first team, Tenn had one on the first team and one on the all def. team, Auburn had a player on the second team, Alabama had one on the second team, Georgia had a player on the second team and another on all defense, Florida had one on the 2nd team and one on the All Freshman, Miss St. had a player on the 2nd team.
So I would not celebrate the all SEC community service team too much but I do applaud all of our players effort and service. Looking to next year I think that Thornwell, Notice and Chatkevicius have the potential to make one of those teams. I would not cry too much for Henry or Sheppard...if we could find someone who has better potential who doesn't have conduct detrimental to the team...whatever that is....with 4 years of eligibility, then it would be addition by subtraction. We have three good recruits who have the potential to be all SEC freshmen (if Carrera did it then any one of those three can).
