I noticed Coach Muschamp is one of the featured speakers at the upcoming Texas coaches clinic that Texas puts on. I know it may be hard to pull recruits that far, but it can't hurt for him to know a lot of coaches, high school and college. I know he put on his own coaching clinic (March 22-24th) there in South Carolina, so it may be a tradeoff to get speakers for that in the future.

Thinking he might just have a few contacts in Texas from his days as DC at the University of Texas.

We had a former 5 star in Texas, a grad transfer from Texas AM, Nick Harvey visit

While not a high school player, it would not surprise me if we could get a DB recruit from Texas in the near future, but other positions would surprise me.

Muschamp is certainly well respected here in Austin. If the timing had been a bit different, he would have been head coach here at Texas instead of going to Florida.

Let's just say it, he lost patience waiting on Brown and perhaps botched his opportunity to be up there with Saban.

Depending on how things go the next couple of years, he could still be up there with Saban.

And Holtz.

And Spurrier.

To be fair, I can't imagine a college coach turning down the Florida job. Even in failure there, I am sure he learned a lot that makes him a better coach now. He was always a good defensive coach, but head coaching is a different animal. I hope SC is patient with him.

He's doing well enough. He needed to hold his water in Texas.

Guys, don't be reposting on other boards but I was able to obtain a sneak preview clip of his talk

He's a coward that was frightened away from our job. From now on, I'll always refer to him as Yellow Tom.

We ended up with Muschamp and so far I’m satisfied with the progress he has shown. This may be the best “miss” that Tanner ever had to not land Herman.

However, I don’t think he is a coward for being selective about his career options. We all get to choose the job which fits us best and he ended up with one of the most plum jobs in the business by waiting a year.

He's yellow.

Herman was probably told by then from Texas insiders that the Texas job was likely to be offered to him, unless there was an incredible Strong turnaround. I think Muschamp is a better fit for SC, as he is just more experienced. Texas was looking for a turnaround specialist like Herman. It would have been fun to see Herman in the SEC at SC. I don't know that he would win, but he would upset some applecarts. Worst thing for both of us would have been Herman at LSU. He would have been great there. I hope he is great at Texas, but there is a lot of head wind to overcome (unrealistic expectations, interfering big donors, etc).

I agree....this was one of those situations that may have simply worked out best for all parties.

He couldn't win at Carolina, the job was "too big a rebuild" after we lost to citadel. Then we went out and had a better season than Texas anyway

To be fair, he went undefeated against SEC teams, so maybe that was just scheduling differences. :D

I know that's your team but from my standpoint, that gave me a vendetta against him. Plus he seems like an odd guy...kissing players on the cheek as they get on the bus? And he just seems like he'd be fussy and annoying about little stuff. Conclusion, not a Tom Herman fan and would love a chance to beat him on the field

I would love for Texas and South Carolina to play. I hear Texas and Alabama are negotiating for a home and home five years or so from now. Herman is an odd guy, but his players love him. He is detail oriented, and that is such a nice thing after the shoot from the hip Strong regime. I loved coach Strong as a person, but he and his staff dropped the ball on details all of the time. Nothing goes unplanned with Coach Herman. He did the kissing on the cheek at Houston, but has cooled on that at Texas. I guess he adapted. I don't think he turned down SC because he thought it too big a re-build. Herman did it because he was already getting feelers from both LSU and Texas and he had a lot more recruiting roots in Houston that would help him with either school. So don't like him for other reasons if you want, but that isn't a very good one. Coach Muschamp is also a great guy, well respected here at Texas still. I think y'all will really grow to like him if he is given a chance there.

are you being sarcastic.. i hope
Not necessarily. He's cut from the same cloth, and the resources there are boundless. Anyhow, whatever opportunity he was going to have to ascend to that level was foregone by leaving there. Florida is a top-tier program, but Texas is a legacy program.

Wow,

Legend coaches: there is ONE in women's basketball and there is ONE in college football.... and what ever fate someone was dealt several years ago, they come and go and yet there's 2 that probably their records will never be duplicated in today's competitive college sports scene.

Ummm, if you are talking about Geno, he is still 2 or 3 years away from catching Pat Summitt.

All I'm saying is that, if Muschamp was ever going to ascend to heights sublime, it was going to be at Texas.
