Collin Hill picked up by Cincinnati

The back shoulder throw was maybe early that’s why he wasn’t looking for it because hill had timing issues with every wr

he took a bunch of sacks that game with obvious blitzes - if he was such a savant in that offense why didn’t he switch possessions?

3rd and 18, what does he throw? A 6 yard dunk

He was not good
Hill averaged 25 a game even including the 3 points we put up against A&M. The LSU game was our killer last year; after the win against Auburn our defense went through a three game stretch giving up 53 a game. Of course the savvy such as yourself decided that was Hill and Bobo’s fault.

Hill was good enough. He had zip, angles, and trajectories your guy did not, sorry; that’s why Hill got the look from the NFL. Would I have started Hill over Garcia or Shaw? Of course not, although neither of them would have produced a better record with last years team either. Would I have started him over Hilinski or Doty? Damn right I would have; Hill at least gave you a chance at something other than 3 and outs.

I didn’t get this info from this site cause I’m not an insider here but someone close to the team told this to me and it is basically what it is said. He was told he would be starting and he did not show up for the next day of practice.
The word from the other site was that he wasn't putting in as much time as Hill or Doty in the film room or the playbook. Had too many outside influences. Those reports were also supposed to be from people close to the team.

At the end of the day, Colin Hill sucks. Him being ever so slightly better than Hillinski doesn't make Hill some NFL capable QB. Undrafted players get looks and tryouts all the time, often as a favor to another coach or agent. It doesn't mean Hill is a made man all of the sudden. If he's trusted enough to get into a preseason game, then a team might think a little of him.

Lol go ahead and visit that breakdown his throws did not have any zip and he was off target a lot of the times. You’re just wrong.

All this thread does is make me sad for the upcoming season....

"Hill was most terrible QB in modern era"

"It wasn't Hill it was the dropped passes - they couldn't catch a cold!"

"It wasn't the WRs it was the OL Hill was scared of being slaughtered on every pass play"

Thanks guys......
Fact is they were all trash last year.

Guess the Bengals should have touched base with you haters instead of relying on professional analysis. Heh.

Did the Bengals actually sign him or give any indication they extended an offer? He’s not at camp and he wasn’t on the list of players they released they had signed. The only indication of this came from his agent which now seems a bit questionable.

Basically as a “screw you” there have been other rumors too but those I can’t get a good feel for (conflicting information)

someone who is good friends with someone on the team said that RH felt slighted by Bobo
RH certainly had his issues. Skipping practice, not putting in the work compared to the other two guys, etc.

Sad thing is, he wasn’t “slighted by Bobo”.

Bobo wanted to make him into a better QB. As much as some here hate Bobo, he’s a good QB coach.

He made the “cardinal sin” of pointing out mechanical faults to a somewhat spoiled, entitled teenager who wasn’t used to being criticized. RH is a good kid, but he got too comfortable too quickly in his growing celebrity status.

The icing on the cake was his apparent refusal (from what I’ve heard) to listen to Bobo’s coaching on improving his footwork, then doing footwork training with another spoiled, entitled former Gamecock QB.

Hopefully he’s used this as a learning experience, and has grown from it. I wish him the best at NW, maybe he just needed a fresh start.

NFL teams don’t have the time, or roster spots to be wasting on charity cases as a favor. If they extend an offer, it’s because someone feels that particular player has something to offer.

Even Tebow getting a contract from the Jags is due to Urban’s familiarity with him, and knowing what tangibles and intangibles he can bring. Urban’s coached a lot of guys over the years that he didn’t offer a contract to, he obviously thinks Tebow has a chance to help the team.

Whether you like Hill or not, no one is going to offer a camp contract if they don’t think the player can help the team.

Actually, they do have the time, resources, and roster spots to give guys a look. They do it all the time. Go read any teams transaction reports throughout the year. They are always churning the bottom of the roster. Sometimes guys are even on the roster for a couple days and then cut.

All that being said there is no evidence that Colin Hill was ever offered anything.

In honesty it’s probably somewhere in the middle RH being hard headed and Bobo obviously favoring Hill and not feeling like he had a chance and was slighted.

I think it’s pretty obvious that Bobo wanted Hill to start and was going to push that regardless of how they performed

I love how some fans go out of their way to run down Hilinski while praising Bobo. We could've possibly (albeit not guaranteed) had something special with Hilinski, yet in typical USC fashion, we screwed it up. And also as usual, we have fans that cheer it on.
One thing is for certain RH as a freshman and Doty as a freshman are night and day

Well, being as how Bobo was publicly running down Hiliinski without ever even meeting him, it was obvious very early on that Hill was going to get the nod.

Yeah we forget about that he was dunking on him before he met him which is funny considering the amount of back foot throws collin had when there was any pocket pressure at all

And to think there are some in this forum who legitimately thought Bobo should get a shot as HC here to replace Muschamp.

Pot, meet kettle
Heh. Played on a state championship team and the runner-up team the year before for a coach now in the college football hall of fame. Father coached teams in the military for years. Kettle that.

Hilinski could not make the throws that Hill could. I'm sorry your feelings were hurt.

Show me one throw that Hill made that Hillinski didnt make the year before

Here are some that Hill didnt make last year:

37 seconds in. Look at the way that Ryan led Edwards and threw it over the correct shoulder. Now look how Hill threw the same route to Brooks made him switch shoulders.

56 seconds in. Threw the ball with enough zip to get it infront of a receiver once again led the receiver and did not make him stop his momentum - something that Hill had a HUGE Problem with last year

114 See how RH once again led BE, threw it over the correct shoulder. You wont see a similar pass from Hill, every time he threw it to the sideline like that it was either underthrown or out of bounds

1:30 once again threw it to Markway in stride and over the correct shoulder. Thats how you make big plays, which Hill neverrrrr did last year

1:50 an incredibly athletic pass, no way Hill does that

254 looks simple but a tough pass beautifully placed with zip

320 look how RH anticipates and throws BE open, CH often stared down receivers and would WAIT for them to get open

345 Show me Hill making that throw last year

Asked around on the Bengals forums. All they can say is that subsequent to the UDFA signing of Hill, the Bengals invited Eric Dungey to tryout. Looks like Hill didn't make the cut and they went with Dungey instead.

If you think Muschamp’s operation was inept, wait til you see the Bengals. Their owner is the biggest doofus and their biggest problem.
I know people rag on Marvin Lewis, but he did an amazing job considering his owner actively played defense against his success.

Hill failed his physical due to the knee issues. Still hoping for a shot elsewhere

Thank you for the confirmation

Too bad. Doubt too many teams are looking for a non-mobile QB with bad knees who throws too many picks.

Best of luck to him in his non-football endeavors.

I’m glad he has a shot. I also suspect that Hill may have not been used to the best of his ability by the former staff.
I don’t think the Muschamp regime would have won any games due to “out coaching” another team.

And to think there are some in this forum who legitimately thought Bobo should get a shot as HC here to replace Muschamp.
I can top that one. I recall reading a post by some idiot who said we should have dual head coaches, Lattimore and Shaw.

lol, Hill’s game was anything but next level. Him getting picked up as a UDFA is not an indicator that he’s NFL talent.

I’m glad the kid is getting a shot, and the staff last year was certainly inept, but Hill was a disaster at QB for us.
So, getting picked up by an NFL team is not an indicator that someone is an NFL talent?? 🤔

Ummm, depends on how loosely you define "getting picked up." He signed a throwaway UDFA deal and was cut before before ever setting foot on the field.
