Four-star DB Jaycee Horn will make his decision known on Thursday night. Our last update on the Georgia product indicated that while Tennessee had seized most of the momentum later in the summer, that South Carolina was still in the race and had made another push. I can tell you that in the last several days, the behind the scenes feedback has vacillated between South Carolina and Tennessee. Yet with the decision right around the corner, the pick here is Tennessee.

Horn has indicated that he’s tired of the recruiting process, and his friendships with fellow Georgians (and Tennessee commitments) Jatavious Harris and Trey Dean have surely helped the Vol cause here. It is interesting that despite the fact that Horn has said he wants to get things out of the way, it’s still expected that he’ll continue communication with South Carolina. Indeed, some close to Horn have made it known that this one will not be over once he pledges. In my view, how South Carolina and Tennessee’s seasons plays out and whether or not he takes an official visit to Columbia before the process is over will both be important here.

Speaking of prospects monitoring the Gamecocks’ 2017 season, it’s something we’ve mentioned fairly consistently for top USC targets in the ’18 class. USC’s finish to the season will be key for a guy like Dax Hollifield, but the start is important in my mind for in-state linebacker Channing Tindall.

The Spring Valley product wants to render a choice in mid-September, which will allow him time to see a few games of the programs on his shortlist. Tindall likes a lot about USC, including his ability to step in and be someone that can help continue changing the culture. Yet it’s my belief that it will be integral for USC to get off to as good a start as possible in the first three games.

I reached out to Tennessee commitment Dorian Gerald on Wednesday regarding his official visit slate, and he told me that he has no dates set at this time. Gerald has continued in communication with USC’s staff and is expected to make a trip to Columbia for an official at some point before the cycle is over.

2019 offensive lineman Michael Tarquin was on USC’s campus during the spring and summer for a pair of visits, and his family is already planning on returning this football season. The Gamecocks’ first home game is the SEC East tilt against Kentucky at night, and Tarquin should be in the stands for that one. Clemson, Florida, Miami, and Michigan should also get return trips this season.

I’ve been told that four-star OL Jovaughn Gwyn could be in the stands for USC’s opener against NC State in Charlotte next month. With it being a neutral site game, there is no recruiting contact allowed between coaches and prospects, but Gwyn can pay his own way and attend for this particular game.
